- I built an all-sky camera system from an old ZWO CCD camera that I already had. This video shows you the step-by-step process of how I put this all-sky system together.

Great tutorial on the build. You caught something at 28:26 in the time lapse. Looks like a star went super nova. Incredible shot
fantastic.. well done bob.
Thanks Bob, great video! I like your design, simple with inexpensive pvc tubing and dome. Now I can make one just like yours. Thanks!!
i agree, excellent! Thank you so much for sharing, I think it helps everyone to watch what you did step by step so that any modifications can be done on their project prior to build. Well done!
Top work
Fantastic
!!
great idea Bob thinking outside the box
amazing job, great idea.
I have ordered ZWOASI 224MC color and hope to set this up thanks for the wonderful input. Congratulation Bob Salazar...lot to learn from you.
Nicely done!
Excellent job! Greetings from Germany
Awesome
Excellent, thanks for putting together this great how-to!
This is an excellent idea! Next project!
Very nice video...I wondering if I can use a modified Webcam....?...thanks for the video
A great video, helps me finish building mine. Many thanks Bob!!
Muy bueno, gracias por compartir.
Great job, I may do that with a ZWO120 I have laying around. You have to love building with PVC because it doesn't require alot of tools to get the project complete.
Well made Bob!
Unfortunately I do not think it will work with my Altair one as I believe the back distance is longer than the ZWO... will have to check! Zwo 12.5 I think and Altair 17.5 ...
wow that's amazing
That's great. Can I use any webcam as a camera?
That is Bad to the Bone! Great Job. Fun!
the dome looks cute; but I wonder if it resists a sunny day without melting
Hi Bob, when someone build this type of camera, could be possible to send videos directly to an inside projector to show on a roof as a LIVE PLANETARIUM as you know? That's will be fantastic, also commanded by Alexa (for example from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. in the night when someone goes to bed). Is it possible? What do you think? another ask, is it better to do with a monochrome camera in order to be more sensible and also cause I don't need to project colour videos on the roof.
Great job! How do you prevent dew from forming on the clear dome?
The ones you buy have a heater built into them.
Very nice build, the PVC is a great idea. I noticed there are some reflections from the dome in the images, is that because of nearby lights? Or could a different dome material help stop reflections? I'm worried about that with my build since there is a street lamp 150ft away.
The thing I wonder about is the ventalation. This camera has a fan an heat sink, so don't you run the risk of it burning up in a fully enclosed system?
I’m inspired! 😎
You could also use a simple USB fisheye Camera for this. As long as it has 180 degree fisheye lens.
You can get a pretty good one on Amazon for like $45
A webcam will not have the sensitivity to capture anything dimmer than the sun, moon, and perhaps a handful of the brightest stars…
Yep totally true, I've just tried to use a security camera for this purpose and I guarantee you that you will not see anything more than black sky.
Excelente!
It hurts to see such a camera stripped down like that...
Hello Bob, I wonder if I could use self tap screws with rubber insulating washers. I also had thought about adding pan and tilt with a couple servos. I believe the design that you already have would suffice. The 360 would have a base like a lazy Susan driven with a belt as used on 3D printers. Very low costs. AS for the tilt maybe a pivot gear or rod controlled by the servo.. Anyway I would like to thank you for sharing your video it has given me many Ideas. I had no idea I could purchase a camera lens separate. I am a UAP, UFO fanatic.
