Thanks Kristian! I actually use the same analogy for getting planing on a fin… one you’re going it’s easy- just need the extra power to get you up-to speed! 👍
As always, yo do a great job breaking things down to the basics. I was on the fence getting a windsurf board that can foil next, now im certain I should be looking at foil boards!
Agreed about foil boards being much more suitable for foiling. Now we all know that fin boards with footstraps on the curved rail aren't so good for foiling, can the brands please stop putting heavier foil boxes into their boards. We dont want or need them adding weight and expense.
I got me the Foil X Wing Edition in 145. I currently using it to learn winging. Which works great to my opinion even better as with dedicated wing Boards. Maybe because I’m coming from Windsurfing and the board is a alike. Could you maybe make a video how to use this board for winging. I know there are plenty of videos out there but you have this special instruction skills
Great video Cookie. I’ve got a FoilX 145 and Supercruiser, bought pre- COVID. Need to get out there and learn, putting some of those tips into practice.
Fantastic video! I’m an intermediate windsurfer who’s curious on foiling, this this perfect. At 85kg would a 145l x-wing or 125l x-wing be more suitable? Keep up the great work!!!!! These videos should not be free!
Love your videos: Both informative and engaging as well as high production value! Do you use an invisible stick for your 360 footage? Where do you actually mount it?
Great tuition vid again Cookie 👍 I’ve just got myself set up with Foiling kit. Been out about five times… managing to get some flight now, and landing without crashing (sometimes). I’ve been tending to go out on smaller sails like my contemporary’s, but having to pump like mad to get up on the foil, which is exhausting. (I’m 85kg). Having a bigger sail would get me up on the foil quicker, but would I be too ‘powered up’ once up on foil? I know to sheet out once up. Also, I have front straps fitted, but haven’t fitted the back straps yet. Should I wait until I’m experiencing longer sustained flight first or just get them fitted? My board is similar to the one in your vid, but 144L. BTW, Have you done a Ride a long vid covering pumping techniques? Thanks, Steve
Add sail size when you’re learning… you need the PoWer until you’re good enough to find the technique! Won’t make it too much harder once your up… point wind and keep your back foot out of the strap! More to compliment this video on my channel! 👍
Thanks Cookie, I’m just learning and everything starts to get a bit squirrely when I’m up on the foil going across the wind, seems the board wants to round up a lot, any suggestions, or do you have a video for that?
Yes, yes, yes! September is my favourite time in Vass… air temp drops a little from the august madness… water temp stays warm…. Generally good winds still! Hope to see you here!
I have the same set up…foil X 125 and super cruiser. I am finding I need about 1m of sail less than windsurfing with a fin. I was expecting to go even smaller…but maybe my technique is not yet good enough. What size difference works for you?
Kinda depends… if I remember right the day this was filmed other were on 7’ & 8m… I was on a 5m. Remember kit set up plays a big part, mast foot back will really giver your more lift… (as will techniques! 😜).
Hi Simon, a question for you. By using a freeride foil board, witch stance (distance between screw straps) do you suggest? Generally on slalom board I use 42cm, I'm 1.80cm tall. Thanks a lot! Henry
one of the best videos explaining the disciplne ever seen
Thank you! Many more like this on my main channel! 🙌🙌🙌
That clutch/gas analogy is totally.... clutch. So much good info here, thanks!

Starboard + Cookie = AWESOME!

You called it a UJ! I learned 20 years ago in Vass that it's proper name is a black twirly thing!
i got the original Neil Pryde Al Foil and i think its Amzing, but the Modern Foils now WOW! just so POWERFUL
The new starboard series is a huge step forward from the AL… that was my first foil too!
That Foil-X seems like a nice board! I like the many footstrap position options and the carry handle on the bottom.
Agreed! 👍

Thanks Rob! Get back out there- make foiling your “new normal!” 😜

Great video. Subscribed!
how many knots of wind did you have with filming

Foiling goes up wind super easy!
Stay OUT of the harness and the back foot strap until you have gained control comfortably!
nice video. Is Vasiliki windy enough in September (begin of September), for windsurfing /windfoiling and wing ?
Yes, yes, yes! September is my favourite time in Vass… air temp drops a little from the august madness… water temp stays warm…. Generally good winds still!
Hope to see you here!
Great video. May I ask what is your weight Cookie? I have Supercruiser and I'm considering buying this board.
Hi! I think I weigh about 75kg. Great set up of board and sail- go for it- you won’t regret it! 🙌🙌🙌

You should use front wing 1100 and backswing 255
which Sailmodel from Point 7 is it that you use?
Could i ask? what ifoil board and liters for 10 knots, upwind and downwind, 80k windsurfer? Thanks
What is your Weight, Simon Cookie?
Hi Simon,
a question for you.
By using a freeride foil board, witch stance (distance between screw straps) do you suggest?
Generally on slalom board I use 42cm, I'm 1.80cm tall.
Thanks a lot!
Henry
please tell us gear used in video!
It’s all outlined in the video…. 125 FoilX & super cruiser foil. 👌👌👌
How fast are you in these conditions? Hard to tell from watching the video.
I find foil sails are better for foiling just as foil boards are too.
For freeride (low-mid aspect), freestyle sails with some tuning (less downhaul, more outhaul) work great too
