This guy is hands down the most talented, skilled and beautiful voiced counter tenor I have ever heard. And I have heard oh so many.
n'exagérons pas !
@Dave Jones Silly man
Totally !
I FEEL that girl standing next to Reggie. And she's definitely feeling it!!
His voice is just so soothing that I never missed a second of the solo.
His smile, confidence and voice control is incredible.
Amazing countertenor.
Beautiful performance. 👌
My favorite rendition of this yet! I love how much the woman next to him is enjoying it too!
Who wouldn't be happy with Reggie singing right there? :) He has so much fun singing it's infectious.
One of the 21st centuries greatest singers!
Michael Hix amen to that!
one of the best renditions i have listened to. i love his improvisations!
I found this on Sunday Baroque of Facebook. Bravo. Handel is why I took voice lessons. Wonderful to hear Oh Thou who tolerate with a counter tennor@
Formidable contre-ténor, quel timbre ! Très artistique. Bravo
What a joy, what a triumph. Gorgeous, ingenious singing!
Am super impressed by this performance. Wonderful 😊💓. The soloist was fully in control. Level of improvisation 💯. Thrilling performance
How delightful! A small choir and a small orchestra, the basso continuo powerful, so is the counter tenor and the choir. Thanks for performing this joyful air so greatly!
What a wonderful and outstanding altus!
I enjoyed it very much. Thank your.
One of my top 3 renditions of this aria so far ❤❤❤
Who are the other ones ? 🙂
Watch the soprano loving Reggie's singing; it is the greatest of compliments given when another artist so appreciates the expertise of another.
so true! I love the look she gives him every so often after a particularly good ornament -- a bit "oh, Reggie, did you really..." like she wants to laugh at the awesomeness.
Cuando la voz de un contratenor suena NATURAL es magia, pura morbidez. Magnífica voz, bravo.
Very tastefully ornamented, bravo, lovely voice
wow! my FATHER in HEAVEN is AWESOME
Splendid soloist and he's got it down perfectly - just turning pages out of habit, he doesn't need to watch the sheet music. Bravo, sir!
GREAT, WONDERFUL VOICE.
THIS COUNTER TENOR FEELS WHAT HE SINGS AND COMMUNICATES HIS FEELINGS TO OTHERS. 💐💐💐
I APPRECIATE ALSO THE ALWAYS SO WELL EQUILIBRATED INSTRUMENTATION IN THIS ORCHESTRA 👍
IT CAN NOT GET ANY BETTER -HEAVENLY!
Newest favorite performance of this! Inspiring!!
The fresh prince of San Diego. Uncle Phil has a phenomenal voice!
What a beautiful voice!
glorious and breathe-taking. thank you!
Wow...the best I've heard😊
Undoubtedly The PRE-EMINENT Countertenor Of Our Time !! IT IS The BRILLIANCE Of Many RENDERINGS Like This , ( By Exceptionally Gifted Countertenors , Like Reggie , ) That Unfortunately Has Led To The Premature And Early Demise of many An Aspiring Contraltos , Future Potentially Burgeoning Careers !!!.....Oh Well , It is what it IS !!!...
Reggie, you have a new fan! We met at Starbucks in Madison NJ the other day, and you were absolutely charming. I love your ornaments in this piece!
magnificent.thank you
What a pleasure to hear this! Fantastic! And so joyous!
Handel + Mobley, what a wonderful mix!
THOSE ORNAMENTS!!! YAAASS!
Espectacular! Buenos graves, buenos agudos, hermosa voz!
Goooooooose bumps! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
perfect voice.
Beautiful interpretation ……. Great countertenor indeed
The best choir ever God bless you all
brillantissimo!
As a tenor 1, I envy that high range.
Alright now, that was fabulous!!!
His tone is so clear
Great job Reggie! I really enjoyed this!
He's an awesome counter tenor
Beautiful!
How graceful ! Thank for this !
I LOVE HIS VOICE SO MUCH!
So inspiring! What a voice! Magic.
beautiful voice
Powerful 🔥
The thumbnail made me guess this man was the baritone soloist. Well, my expectations were beautifully confounded by his rich, smooth, and warm tone. I was so used to the female alto I have heard for years that it was interesting to compare ornamentations. He captured the mood of the song well. Thanks for choosing a lesser-sung part of the Messiah; I love the joy of this piece. Also kudos for the baroque ensemble; it's a slightly lighter touch than the organ or modern orchestras. What's the avocado-looking instrument with the long neck called?
FlamingCockatiel Double bass
@@jeremyjohn8199 Thank you. That's the first of that variety of bass I've seen. It looks too big to be played over its full range.
FlamingCockatiel I guess you were probably referring to the theorbo rather than the double bass: avocado shaped sound box with a very very long neck. You are right that the player cannot reach the very end of the instrument but the extended neck is there for very low bass strings!
Superb.
brotha got skills
This is great
He is EXCELLENT
Prachtig, dankje!
fantastic chest/falsetto game!
Yep, really good synchromesh gearbox as we call it in the trade :D
Mind = blown
Great performance
Gorgeous instrument!
I love this big guy
Wonderful counter tenor!
Lovely articulations from the soloist! I don't suppose he used a specific transcription?
Adrienne Davis I think he must make his own ornaments, perhaps even improvise them -- I've heard two recordings of him singing the Frogs aria from "Israel in Egypt", and the ornaments and cadenza were completely different in each. He's a genius.
Handle in His Day, ( Especially When Selecting GREAT Soloist For Arias For His Many Oratorios , Was DELIGHTED To Allow Them To Improvise , and Even Encouraged This From His More Gifted Soloist !! It Is Equivalent To A Composer Leaving The Cadenza Portion Of A CONCERTO Completely Blank, and Allowing A Great Artist To GO FOR IT !!!......
@@dennispearson9287 exactly, and that's what Reggie and others in his line of singing do. I love singing and playing baroque music because of the scope for improvisation that it gives. (Btw, what's with putting periods after every word? It gets quite annoying to read.)
@@inesdeerausquin5658 Thanks for the Like !!! There is Always a Certain Freshness and Air of Expectancy in Great Compositions ( That Have Become Standards of the Repertoire ) When Composers ( Intentionally) Leave Room For the More Gifted Artist to Improvise !! This Makes Every Performance Unique in It's Exspresion , and a Real Treat for The Audience !!!..( The Excessive Periods Seen Earlier were Unintentional and due to a malfunction, which has since been corrected, thanks largely to your constructive criticism !!!.....
just lovely.. god bless you
Bright !!! 💥
astonishing
Reggie rocks!
That run......👍🏼
Nice counter-tenor!
pretty impressive that guy's timbre and vocal range. Surely the next woman colleague is wondering if she could've done it too.
Can someone tell me the key he is singing with?
Beautiful singing. However, I can not hear the Theorbo.
I can hear it with my headphones, quite clearly.
What is his name the countenor
I'd love to know that, too!
I had to add the other earpiece... Lovely #timbre
Countertenors rock!
Crickey !
Primeira vez que vejo um negão cantando ópera, que massa! Gostaria de ver mais disso aqui no meu país ao invés de cantarem aquele funk carioca decadente!
As melhores vozes são de negros.
Definitely a great voice but is it necessary to change Handel's vocal score???
Is this singer a composer as well???
Smh Proffesor Zusman why'd they put u on the side like that.
I've got my work cut out for me!
Very well done great to see Pierre playing.
The most impressive voice and feeling. The pace is a bit hot-foot, no? Mobley handles it with aplomb, though.
Great performance but I feel it's a little bit too fast. Perhaps that's how the conductor wanted it... ???
Exemplary
Why sing in current British English, they didn’t pronounce words like that in the Baroque era anyway? Other than that superb.
The voice is soooo small... This is a HUGE man, but the voice just doesn't have strength.
Over-ornamentation spoils. One of the most notable characteristics of Handel's work in Messiah is the echoing of the words in the music. "Lift up thy voice with strength" and the music rises both in pitch and power by steps. But this guy overcomplicates it, and does a divebomb in the middle of it, trying to be clever and in the process spoiling the effect.
Disagree entirely.
perfect voice.
