Because you all ask about the front rack, here it is!

What about how that hip flask is mounted?!
Yeah that's cheap
Had a coffee. Went for a ride. Resting and tuning in to “today’s video.” A good Sunday.
As a bike mechanic in Portland Oregon this was oddly fun to watch.
Why?
Nice. I prefer the one by on technical types of bikes as well. Same reason.
Epic suspense music at 6:00 - the tension created by that snare was almost too much to bear...
Exactly the mood I was going for!
Early Sunday videos are the sh*t
Joergen our local hero!
Pro tip, dont wash your bike with a presure washer, you will remove the grease from the bearings. Pro tip 2 use grease on your seatpost. Thnx for the video its really cool to see and intresting setup. Love your front rack!
Myth. It’s fine if you’re careful.
De vibe in deze video is zo relaxed, heerlijke combi met de muziek!
Great setup although for a 1x setup I prefer a SRAM 10-42 cassette with 38T chainring which gives a little bit more range.
I think Mikey is going to hear alot of the freehub sound, as you sit in in his wheel 😁
Mikey is also right about 1x Nahhhh!
I switched both my mtb and gravel to 1x and I decided to switch my gravel back to 2x because the hills here in the Philippines are punishing so I needed my granny back. With my mtb I placed an 11-50t cogs with a 34t chainring so it's fine. With the gravel you can't use a lower chainring 38t is the lowest so climbs are still a struggle.
This is my favorite channel 🚴🏼🚴🏼
Great video, really informative and a cool bike shop. If out after 8pm in the Nederlands during Lockdown, ensure you have a dog on a lead.👍
Jurgen is such a helpful guy always
I just wish I had as much knowledge of bikes as Jurgen does, especially at his age.. one day
such a nice shop!!
Awesome bike shop! Love love the vibe. Well done mates. Peace.
Best finishing touch I have seen on a bike..."a Flask". Noooice. I run 1x on all my bikes, and 40T with 11-42 I assume at the back is solid. At some point you should try the absolute black oval.
BTW: Whats in the flask?
Got an oval 32t coming in this week, for the reallly steep & packed-up rides. Usually whiskey in the flask ;)
@@Fernwee nice. Single malt off course.. Balvenie triple cask.... Regardless, they all to the same trick.
@@chiefrocker12, you know your stuff. The best medicine for those long, cold and rainy winter nights... Stay safe.
Sweet relaxed video, thanks guys!
The man actually put a dropper post on a gravel bike - this will be interesting. Also big fan of the single chainring set ups as its a much smoother way to ride instead of big jumps double set ups can give. Just hope you have your ratios correct 😉
I'll blame Jurgen if it's not correct ;)
I just put a 40x42 on my gravel bike. Interested to hear what you think of the setup. I got to wait until the 3 ft of snow in Iowa melts before I get to try my new ride... :-)
Congratulations to 40.000 follower. You made a real good job. Very interesting video. I like your new music, it belongs very good to the bike shop and the man of the evening JURGEN. Interesting to change the sound of your back wheel with a small ring. My question is about dropper post, I'm looking for a really tall one. I have a seat post 400mm and it comes out for about 290-305mm - i'm just looking for the right position. And down hill a dropper post will made riding much safer.
Thanks Frank! I haven't really done much research into dropper posts but I was looking for the opposite, since my seatpost doesn't come out of my frame a lot at all!
Great style of the video @Martin
Very nice, Joergen is an awesome guy!
Love Parallel, old school LBS vibe updated.
Going back to 2x on my Bianchi JAB this summer when I convert it to drop bars. :) Nice bikeshop.
All the gears!
Always enjoy watching your vids. Keep it up.
Another interesting video Martijn. Can you tell me what rack you are using on the front? Looks like the Atlas has similar fork mounts to my Mason Bokeh.
Its this one: www.allygn.de/products/diamond-rack-coming-soon
@@Fernwee Looks perfect, thanks. Although I think Brexit has ruined my chances of getting one.
Hmmm could be yeah...
If I hadn't had to choose between my eye surgery and a new bike I would have bought a Focus Atlas for sure! Probably I would stay with the 2X crank.
Good choice switching to 1x :-) i love it since first try, sorry Mike;)
First of all: I really love most of your video's, very inspiring!
This winter is actually my first one riding on trough the season and apparently that comes with problems, such as this: I'm riding a Merida Reacto 5000 with the standard disc breaks (Ultegra 160mm). Now since I'm riding also with bad weather, sand, some mud now and than, my rear brake doesn't function as fine as it should. During my rides it's fine, but the day after the brake drags big time. (After my ride I always clean my bike, mostly pressure wash it.) Turns out that the pads and the pistons doesn't move back properly into the callipers... If I take out the wheel and try to push back and forth the pistons, you can hear the dirt inside the callipers. As far as I know, disc brakes are ideally suited for use in wet and bad weather cirsumstanses... Should I bleed and renew the oil? Or should I just not ride this bike during wintertime...? Hope you can tell me something about it or maybe you can ask Jurgen. It's really anoying and I cannot find a proper answer to this on the internet. Also went to a bikeshop twice, the guy apparently couldn't fix it...
I heard in a podcast recently that this happens when the brakepads wear out, because the the pistons come all the way out of the calipers. Did you try renewing those?
@@Fernwee hm interesting. Didn't try that yet... Which podcast was it?
Not sure, might have been the Cycling Tips Nerd Alert one
@@Fernwee haha oké😅 Thanks for your answer and keep up the good work!
Dropper posts are great on the mtb, but they are heavy. I’ll be interested to hear if you think the extra weight is worth it on the gravel bike.
If I think the extra weight of a flask of whisky on the fork is worth it, my standard is really not one to go by ;)
Get ready to see them on UCI pro road bikes, because of the new ban on super tuck positions. The riders will now stay in the saddle and drop the post, pedalling if they like. Going to be interesting to see Froome doing this. The extra weight won’t be an issue because the bikes are already light enough.
Hey, new to your channel, really diggin’ your content, nice stuff!
Quick call out, not sure if the mechanic added grease to the seatpost or inside of the seat tube or even the bottom bracket spindle. There’s a number of opinions why you should, but for what it’s worth, was curious if the mechanic did or not. I’ve been riding and wrenching in shops on and off since the 1980s, and can personally attest to the horrors of a seized seatposts… just my 2 cents.
Keep on keepin’ on!
Good one!
Ik ben blij dat ik niet de enige ben die mijn fiets wast bij de was straat achter centraal plus ben nog nooit naar die winkel in noord geweest thx voor het laten zien :)
Pls more videos of riding that beautiful 6.8 ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Do you always use Eggbeaters or do you use any other pedals on your gravel bike? I've got Time iClic on my road bike and egg beaters on my MTB. Getting a gravel bike and trying to decide what to put on it... (was maybe thinking Look X-Track Race but may just go for another set of Eggbeaters)
Hey Martijn, great Videos. What kind of bottle Cages are those?
Tidy job team !
Have you considered switching to a XD free hub and running e-thirteen or gabaruk cassette and running a 9 or 10 tooth cassette?
Actually thoughts on mullet setups in general would be interesting to hear.
Havent really considered any of that no, Im a simple guy!
nice kicks! what tyres are you using? can't make them out. Cheers
A video explaining how to service your free hub would be great.
Hey Martijn, what do you think is the better gravel tyre for dutch ‘gravel’ (karrespoor, single-tracks, forrest etc)? I want to put few on my roadbike (up to 35mm clearance) and be able to an gravel ride once and a while. There is so many choice.. but if you have positive experience with certain tyre here in netherlands for reason x it would be good to know ;-)
Hi guys. So I would be interested in the max possible cassette size that your bike (derailleur) can take. How to compute and test if the combo will work, maybe say a word or two about wolf tooth. That would be nice. Cheers and enjoy riding
Wolftooth will lower this specific derailleur too low to the ground.
Lovely bikeshop.
How is a dropper post useful for city riding ? I believed the main use of it was for downhills trails.
Wait, who mentioned city riding?
real badass bike, really nice!!!
Hy! Nice upgrades 😉 Just a question, what size is yours Easton EA70 AX Handlebar? and some advise 😁 i dont think a 11/42 cassete is gona cut it for you, try a Garbaruk 10/48 or 10/50 cassete (with the necessary changes on the derailleur) thks for your videos!
42cm and changing to a different derailleur seems like a hassle, so ive got another trick up my sleeve that doesnt require a bigger cassette
@@Fernwee Thks for the reply! you dont have to change the dereilleur, just the cage, and it looks sick 😛 PS: i'm noy a employee of that brand 😁 Again, thks for the Reply!! Be safe
Nice build now. But what about the rear derailleur? You changed the cassette so wouldn’t you need the 812 rear derailleur to work with the bigger gears?
This one works fine
Awesome upgrades
Hey Martijn, what front rack is that on your gravel bike? Love ya work 👍🏼 Don't worry, just seen your comment! 🤣
Hi from Spain, congrats for your work.
What brand is your saddle bag?
That’s funny cause we love loud hubs in America
Hey Martijn ! Great Videos :) What are those Bottle Cages? Which Brand? Regards from Germany
Could you please point me to the next video? So curious if you liked the upgrades, but can’t find it. Thank you 🙂
Just got a 2021 scott gravel speedster 20 yesterday. Think I wanna go 1x has the same grx as this bike I believe. So I can just swap the chain rings out? How do I know what size to get? Nm I watched more lol. First drop bar bike.
dig the build! i wonder why you upgraded your ratchet but didn’t get the 54T ?
Answer is in the video.
Hello great bike,
I also want to upgrade this bike, how did you get these GRC1400 rims with boost hubs? did you build it up or use adapters? cannot find a boost version of those wheels
cheers
Heyo, they're called HGC1400 in the boost version!
@@Fernwee thx a lot :) guess I should have looked at hybrid, like you mentioned in your vid! :P
Happy days!👌🏁
Two questions: 1. Do you run your Panaracer tubeless, and 2. Is your rims with or without hooks ?
Yes, with
Putting the dropper on the handlebar is interesting.
So hard to find info on a dropper for a gravel bike. YT told me to get the SRAM wireless dropper but it's over $600 (over 2 times the cost of a regular dropper).
Coole video mannen! Welke lange gravel races staan er op het programma voor 2021?
Radrace 96hrs, Bohemian Border Bash en Badlands, voorlopig :)
@@Fernwee ha zalig! tot in de Badlands dan :)
Yessss 💪
Have you encountered any issues when pressure washing? This is a bit of a touchy subject as there are different opinions.
No problems so far 👌
Hey Martijn! Could you please tell me what is the difference between one by and two by exactly? Why the new handle bar is better than the Focus' one? Thank you and stay healthy!
I can't, but Si can: ruclips.net/video/QFTLBSz2P5k/видео.html
The handlebar has a bit more flare!
@@Fernwee Thanks! I'm curious about your experience riding this.
Cool video. I find it very tricky to take out the rear wheel with the GRX. Any top advise from the mechanic?
Turn the clutch off and shift to the 2nd or 3rd smallest cog in the rear (big ring in the front if possible).
Thank you!
Hi, I'm 175cm tall with 86.5cm crotch, what size should I take? S or M? Thank you for your help
Love that bike.
I love your videos man
Did I spot a Hope sticker on the bike stand?? I grew up in Barnoldswick where the factory is.
You most certainly did, Joergen is a big fan
@@Fernwee couple of friends have ridden for their team! Found your channeling googling about wearing AirPods whilst riding... glad I did now. Your stuff is ace
Hi, what type of rd you use for this upgrade, 810 or 812?
His English accent is ON POINT.
I've been practicing.
Have you installed some spacer before the crank?
Uhm, no idea!
The more I watch videos about the new Atlas, the more I feel like I have to buy this bike myself
Sorry for that!
That Atlas 😍😍😍😍😍
Jurgen almost sounds like hes from California...
That guess is not far off ;)
dude.
San Francisco or Los Angeles...
@@adlar2005 how dare you...
Also a little envious of being able to go to the Netherlands and have a bike shop 🤔
nice bike, how wide are your handlebars ?
42cm
Hello.. I'm from Indonesia, and start build gravel bike.. I wanna ask, Is better Di2 (electronic system) or mechanical shifting for gravel bike?
I'd go for electronic if I had the option!
@@Fernwee why? Do you have any reason?
such a shame those Atlas' are so damn hard to get hold of, really want a 6.9!
Keep your eyes peeled!
What's the reason to get a dropper for the seat? I've never seen that before.
Yoo Man what stem do you use?
i just noticed that the cover plate of the shifters are not the same color !
Did you get the Atlas that fits your height or did you size down given the high stack?!
I ride a medium in all my bikes, so also this one. My thought is that the stack must be there for a reason.
hey Fernwee, i was checking the Focus bikes and it turned out they only do Aluminum gravel bikes, why that and how do you find their gravel bike? thanks
Aluminium is the cheapest option for focus. They can make maximise their profit.
Hey Omar, aluminium is more affordable and indestructible! So a cheaper bike that doesnt break when you take it on challenging adventures :)
I love it for that!
What’s Juergen riding?
Could you tell with the CIS cockpit if the headset bearings needs to be changed, does the front brake line goes true the headset bearing or do they into the frame before the headset?
Through the bearing.
Hey Martijn, what GPS mount do you have in that bike?
An ali-express stem mount
How does Jurgen ensure his disc brake installations don’t squeal, screach or howl even in the wet?
He doesnt
You cannot really prevent this from happening. Keeping your system clean and using organic pads really is the only way to minimize the noise, but you'll still have a bit of squealing in the wet.
Ahh Thomas I was being a bit sarcastic as us Brits are want to do.....😀
@@andycorso8498 Nevermind then :p
I look forward to the day when 1X is not considered an upgrade but recognised as what it is: marketing sold to the consumer so the manufacturers no longer have to consider down tube shape, location, diameter, etc. "Tell them they don't need the *extra complexity* of two or three clicks of the left hand. But don't mention the 11, 12, 13 clicks of the right hand or they may become suspicious." If one cannot manage the *complexity* of a front mech, should one really be on a bicycle?
What is the model of front carrier please?
Which bars r those that ur running ?
What brand is the front rack?
Allygn Components!
Love the bike!
If you have more than one wheelset, do you have to have the same cassette and hubs on both if you dont want to reindex gears each time?
I usually re-index, because the wheels are different setups for different purposes, so also different cassettes
Hello
what size of focus Atlas do you recommend for a height of 170 cm ?
greetings :)
Probably a small!
@@Fernwee S or M size you recommend ?
S
@@Fernwee Thank you :) Catch good energy
Which size of handlebar you choose?
42cm
Who makes your fork mounted flask holder?
BBB does: shop.fernwee.cc/collections/ride-beyond-crew/products/ride-beyond-crew-flask
@@Fernwee thanks
Where did you get the bottle cage for the hipflask?
It's a BBB prototype 🤫
this is going to get a few more clicks after milan-san remo :)
Which lever did you use on the dropper.
A special GRX lever!
Wait... there's "up grades" in NL? 🤯
Is there a way to build bike without B roll?
