Looks like Britain's Dragonfire Laser System is going to be getting that extensive real-world testing soon. They are donating a few platforms to Ukraine. Eager to see how that goes, and equally eager to see HLC's vid on the subject when it inevitably downs a cruise missile or something far larger than it's meant for.

We always used western weapon systems, and it's far easier to upgrade within it than to switch to a completely new and unknown platform. Plus it allows for interoperability with neighboring countries for military exercises, sharing the same NATO standards. The JF-17 looks good on paper, but it has a high degree of uncertainty about it. For starters, the same country that builds it does not use them. And the Pakistani Air Force has them as second line support for (oh surprise) the F-16. Then comes the question about spare parts availability, armament effectiveness and maintenance support, all of which were not very clear. In contrast, the F-16 is a highly proven and successful platform, used by a LOT of countries. So you know what you're buying, and that you can keep it updated and flying for the foreseeable future.
It's not scary on its own. It indicates that the nation that developed it has the tech to develop something scary though. The Iron Dome is purely defensive, and will never take a life, but the precision required to intercept hundreds of incoming threats in the way that it does means that they have the potential to make weapons that use similar technologies to become extra lethal.
I've seen it go off in person. It's an incredible thing to see/hear, but also knowing that there's incoming ordinance that it's trying to intercept... That part not so much

Technology is going to take off with the threat of DEATH in defeat. Get into the CEOs heads that now is not the time to maximize profits but advance.

I don’t know what the missiles are made out of, but if you make it out of a material that can easily withstand temperatures over 3,000 degrees, you don’t need to worry about code telling you when it hits those temperatures
its not just the materials used, you also have to worry about the temperatures cooking the fragile electronics inside the missile. because heat like to transfer to cool places. such a thing would turn a smart weapon into a dumbfire unless the electronics are sufficiently padded & insulated
