I AGREE 💯🥰😇🌹
About 40 years ago I visited Mary queen Scots house in jedburgh, Scotland. They had a copy of her death warrant pony of her tiny shoes and her gloves. The saddest exhibit was her death mask. She looked really beautiful.
Thanks for the Information.. i did not know it was a Death mask of Marie Stuard..
Perhaps the reason that her face seemed pudgy was a result of having her head chopped off.
The poor woman. Between Lord Darnley, then Lord Bothwell her husbands after Francis, then her imprisonment and supposed guilt found in the Babington plot Mary Queen of Scots did go bravely to the execution block. The failed Babington plot and the actions took by Elizabeth do show a monarch though under threat of an assassination attempt didn't want to sign her cousins death warrant. So Elizabeth too had remorse. Tragic and complicated times.
Also, not only was Mary a fellow queen. She was Elizabeth's cousin. Mary's mother, Mary of guise was the sister of Elizabeth's father Henry the eighth.
@@patsymillar9447 Mary of Guise was NOT Henry’s sister. Margaret, Mary’s grandmother, was Henry’s sister. ;)
This story has always been heartbreaking to me, especially after doing my family tree and realizing, to my astonishment, that Mary Queen of Scots is my 17th great grandmother 😓
I love to hear history faithfully recounted. You've done excellent research and your video is well produced. Well done.
As disrespectful as people are to the dead, it is a comfort to know that her spirit was no longer bound to this earth at the time and she would not be cognizant of the disrespect. It hurts the living to bear witness to these actions.
One of the saddest and most unfair stories in history.
... Jane Grey? Anne Boleyn, Katherine Howard?
Basically... Tudor Era women in general.
History was always and will always be unfair no matter what
@@amberklaire9419true but all of these women were not of royal blood. Mary was an anointed queen, a monarch of royal blood who was the sole sovereign ruler of a nation without the need to Mary into a royal family to achieve that. It’s one thing to be treated unfairly under a ruthless Protestant patriarchy, and it is another to be stripped of your birth right and forced to submit to that same patriarchy. Mary was a great queen who had values that aligned with those of peace and humanity, she hoped to unite the scottish population and allow people to live in peace and harmony regardless of their religion or other definitive characteristics however she was far too naive, and the men around her were far too cruel. She had spirit and was said to be a great/smart speaker, leader and thinker but unlike Elizabeth the first, she lead with her heart, passion and emotion not with logic and strategy.
She was was said to be insanely beautiful and captivating too!!
@@user-cn8cm9rk6z do you further know that in addition to all of her other attractive qualities, Mary Queen of Scots was also 6ft tall?
Congratulations, once more great content . Mary Queen of Scots , young brave beautiful but her mistakes costed her life
What mistakes she done??
"Her mistakes (costed ) cost her life." She made no mistake ! She was the victim of the murderous Elizabeth 1 who had a murderous sister Mary (The infamous Bloody Mary, recently deceased) and both were the ' illegitimate ' daughters of the murderous Henry 8 ! Both Mary's were Catholic. Elizabeth was Protestant.
Mary Queen of Scotts was the only legitimate heir to her father James 5. When she returned to Scotland after the death of her husband Louis 2 of France she was forced to marry Henry Darnley. He, along with her illegitimate half brother, James Stuart (and several others) betrayed her for her rightful pursuit of the English Throne.
This was all about the war on who was the rightful heir to rule England and Scotland and what religion would prevail under the British crown !
Mary Queen of Scotts was related to Psychopathic/ Sociopathic murderers who blasphemed God, murdered countless in his name and that, by bloody hell, was not her fault !
Ironically, I am gratefully Protestant !!! The very thought of bowing to a man (a pope) who proclaims to have equal power to God makes me cringe ! I would not !
Further irony, Protestant James 6, also James 1 (look this up) who was the son of the Catholic Mary Queen Of Scotts was responsible for the translation of the King James Version of the Bible still widely used today.
Still, Mary Queen of Scotts was the only legitimate heir to reign !
@@adasteiajustiennebygodsgra6714 Mary Queen of scots died because she was a romantic and not a ruler.
Don't blame Elisabeth, she was just a Queen protecting her thone from a little girl who wanted too much and that in the end gained nothing.
Plus, her son is remembered as one of the worst kings of Europe (for those who remember him) on the other hand Elisabeth I is regarded as the most powerful monarch England has ever had.
@@ronanyomu5967 First of all she challenged Elisabeth I, second of all she cared more about England that she cared about her own country.
Third,She married lord Darnley.
Fourth, she put Elisabeth and herself in a bad situation by asking her for help.
Woooow...so Katherine of Aragon was disrespected in life and then her grave was vandalised in death too? I'm hurt. England just failed her consistently.
She's not the only queen who was brutally vandalized. Catherine Howard went through something far worse in death. But my heart still mourns for both of these amazing women, and I hope they know that their stories have continued to fascinate the world and has stood the tests of time.
@@madisondean1074 I think you mean Katherine Parr... Furthermore, it doesn't matter who's was worse, it's disrespectful either way.
@@areiaaphrodite I meant all three Catherines, if that clarifies my words a little better.
@@madisondean1074 Nothing in your previous replay states that but ok
From the 16th century and onwards, all I see in British history is Catholics and Protestants killing each other. I'm glad I'm Eastern Orthodox.

A video similar to this about Marie Antoinette would be interesting too maybe including other victims of the reign of terror
Yeah Marie Antoinette was so not what she’s been pictured as throughout history. In studying her I was really surprised that she was not immature in the years leading up to her execution. She’d totally grown up. It’s heartbreaking knowing how that almost whole family went down. Even her children :(
On the executioners block she bumped someone as she was about to be beheaded or someone bumped her and she said gently “excuse me sir, I didn’t mean to”
thank you for more history on my 12th great grandmother. She was a brave & beautiful woman. She made mistakes and those mistakes cost her her life. Her execution was one of the saddest and most unfair stories in history.
She is mine as well, though I suspect there are many, many more descendants out there. I always wanted to know more about my ancestors, so I thank you both.
Maybe our's, too. Also had a vision like dream of her, in a very aware 3 hour sleep, and we rubbed ointment in her back, on a four poster bed, intimately, if we weren't also her sister/cousin in that form and felt her as our "twin flame"?
We also dreamt of Henry, as a saw dusted corpse, with a lover? And he called to us to his spare property, which matches the place historically?
Had green walls and maybe red carpets and a staircase, in front of an entrance? The back entrance or front?
The fact that she wanted to be buried with Francis shows how much she loved him
Queen Mary did not want to be buried beside Francis II but beside her mother Queen Marie De Guise in
Saint-Pierre-les-Dames, Reims, Rheims. but thankfully she was not as Marie De Guises tomb was destroyed the French revolution
Lovely presentation x A credit to you .
Well done another great video. I live in Peterborough and never knew that the cathedral was damaged that much during that time. Can’t wait to do some research into it. Love your channel ❤️❤️
Mary's life and death have always haunted me
This is a goated channel, you work hard asf and it’s appreciated !!!
To me, Mary symbolizes the true grace, kindness, courage, and beauty of a queen. She may have participated in the Babington plot, but she didn't deserve what she got. May Mary QUEEN of Scots rest in peace!
Queen Mary certainly did not deserve what she got. There is no credible proof that Mary was involved in the Babington Plot, which was invented by and fabricated by Cecil, Walsingham, Pheleppes with Elizabeth's full knowledge and agreement. Queen Mary was illegially murdered by the English crown and estate
@@SALeppard Exactly what I mean when I said she may have participated in the Babington Plot. I didn't mean that she did participate in the plot. But I have high doubts that Queen Mary was ever involved.
@@madisondean1074 i totally agree as Queen Mary said she had conspired to be free which was her right being unlawfully detained but emphatically denied being involved in the alleged conspiracy against Elizabeth which was orchestrated by English estate who are guilty of murder of their lawfully legitimate Queen . Thank you fir your clarification 💞
You make history so very interesting, thank you
Misfortune never followed far from Mary most of her life. Sad.
Well done!!!
Great video! Thank you
I really like this narrator. Very good video.
Makes being a peasant in England/Scotland seem not so bad.
One of my foremothers on my maternal side was one of Mary Queen of Scots ladies in waiting - one of the “pretty maids all in a row”. She actually fell in love with an Irishman at court, then fled to Nova Scotia with him where their beautiful home still is in the family.
wow!
The more I learn of Mary Queen of Scott’s the more I love her. She was a beautiful inside and out woman of faith. Just as Catherine of Aragon was. I don’t know how I have gone this long in my life and have not studied Mary’s life more closely. I pray she finally finds peace with King Francis II in heaven 🙏🏼✝️🕊
I am sure she had many admirable facets as a human being but I think it is easy to be seduced by the romanticism that has grown up around her and to be biased due to one's own religious convictions. Willing or otherwise she was a focal point of Catholic rebellion and if she had attained the throne Elizabeth herself would have been imprisoned indefinitely or more likely executed herself and religious persecution then directed at the protestant population. Just a turning of the tables. As ever thoughout history it was dog eat dog for personal and dynastic survival and as more often than not religious intolerance and bigotry being at the forefront of human suffering, and to be honest she may have been engaging and seemed exotic having grow up at the French court but she was a rubbish queen.
@@bertiodvonrastenburger1129 you apparently don’t know your history well. Mary was catholic yes, but she was one of the few who preached religious tolerance. Both during the French wars of religion and when she returned to Scotland.
@@elizabethjaco8144 I think we under estimate how much political expediency played a part in such tolerance as well as the difference a secure firm hold on the English throne would have made to it not to mention the pressure that would have exsisted to take a stronger hand exerted by the clergy and Catholic nobility however, fair point.
As to the original comment on this thread the point I was making was that it in itself the comment was shrouded in religious bias and that dynastic bloodletting was rightly or wrongly part of life.
Mary was certainly aware and at times involved in plotting the overthrow of her cousin and had she been overthrown would as likely as not been executed herself. That can be seen as treason... So off with your head
Or at least a case of you or me so......So off with your head.
Either way she was at least a focal point and at worst complicit in plotting and/or supporting foreign intervention.
Anyway I am rambling now !!!
So.... In my very humble opinion dispite all the religious conatations of the succession and the fact that Henry was a narcissistic tyrant I believe Elizabeth had herself perched upon the throne by right and had Mary deposed her she would have been a usurper and to be fair if Mary hadn't made such a balls up of being Queen of Scotland in the first place she would have never been in that position in the first place.
Phew.... I think iam finished.
If she was such a staunch Catholic, why did she marry Bothwell in a Protestant ceremony?
@@SafetySpooon Because by that stage she was dominated by him and had become a political pawn and control over her own destiny had very much slipped from her fingers.
Her burial only took place when people could no longer stand the smell of decomposition coming from the room where her coffin sat.
I honestly believe Elizabeth allowed her body to sit, as a cruel, sick insult to her.
Why else do that, and then become angry when she was secretly buried?
bad choices and a victim of circumstance rip Mary
Thanks.
I find this video interesting but also liked History Calling's take on the issues between Queen Mary of Scots and Elizabeth and enjoyed that video as well. Her review of documents and comparison of varying accounts was very interesting.
It is hard to comprehend that she was only 25 when she lost her throne, and only 45 when she died. Mary made many mistakes, but she deserved better than what she got from life. May she rest in eternal peace. ❤🏴
I have visited her tomb in Westminster Abbey twice in the past 12 yesrs and while her tomb is beautiful, I was always a bit surprised that she was buried next to Elizabeth, her cousin and woman who ordered her death in such a gruesome manner.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR REPLY!!! :-)
🙏Shrewsbury - I’m from there - in Massachusetts🙏sad🙏
Is horrible.....sadly there is much worse.
Unless I'm mistaken afterlife refers to life after death. We have no idea what her afterlife was like.
In those days I suppose executions were quite frequent but to witness a botched beheading must have been horrific. How could you sleep that night after seeing the head roll around on the execution platform ?.
@Gary Allen Thanks for your detailed reply. As for children seeing executions I understand how they would have grown up with no qualms about seeing human blood being shed and also the fact you mention animals and the way they were treated. One can only imaging that things that went on in those days did not affect the mind and you could a hearty meal afterwards.
I don't know why Elizabeth gets such good press. Historians really want us to believe that the Queen of England had less power than her councillors? I am not convinced. If Elizabeth cared enough for her cousin, she'd have given the order to spare her life. She couldn't stand the thought of a rival. And Mary was the rightful heir as a Stuart. Its sad what happened to her. But glad that it was her lineage and not Elizabeth's that went on through James.
Elizabeth gets good press because she very cleverly put off executing the woman who continually plotted to murder her until that woman's husband could rule in his own right. & that's just for starters.
@@SafetySpooon Historians debate this argument that Mary allegedly plotted to murder Elizabeth. So I would take the argument of it being with a grain of salt. Besides, history is always written from the POV of those who won
@Gary Allen ah I see, thanks for the info mate. So even Elizabeth can't overturn the death penalty?
I feel like Mary has been romanticized a lot as a tragic figure, when the reason why she died was because she was an arrogant little girl who wanted too much and that in the end gained nothing.
She cared more about England than she cared about her own country and challenged Elisabeth so many times, when her so hated cousin was just trying to help her.
Elisabeth suggested Mary to marry lord Robert Dudley but Mary refused to listen.
When Elisabeth I was crowned as Queen of England,in 1559 (the following year) Mary proclaimed herself as the rightful queen of England, when she was already Queen of Scotland.
Nothing to feel bad about, plus she was a Queen only by name, she ruled with her heart and emotions and not with logic or reason.
And Who cares about James? He has been one of the worst Kings of England for those who even remember his name.
Mary was one more example of why rulers. Can not be raised else where
I wonder if the entrails were ever found at any point. It is in my belief that Mary should rest in whole body. Meaning every part of her should be buried together.
It was common practice for the entrails to be buried in a seperate place so that wasnt done out of disrespect.
I don’t think that was what was being referenced as disrespectful.
Rather that she was denied her wishes for her Catholic Chaplin in the hour of her death. (Protestant) Religious conversion was attempted while she was on the scaffold directly awaiting her death.
Denied her accounting books to further settle her affairs/estate (my oh my the block could not wait!), and furthermore while she was praying to her death - Protestants prayed their prayers a loud speaking over hers (super petty as it was Marys death afterall), and her dying wish was to be buried in France - which she was denied by her cousin as her body lay in casket in the castle for 6ish months - and then her dying wish to be buried in France was denied a SECOND time by her only son and child, and even to this day; her body rests on english soil, preceded by a Protestant funeral for the well-known & staunch Catholic Queen.
Not to mention the trial….she was not an English subject, but, rather a Queen in her own right to Scotland.
One might argue that submission to her foreign captors could be seen as treason against her own country.
While she may have been involved in the plot to assassinate her cousin QE1 - as stated before, as a Queen in her own right, Mary S. was not treasonous - however under QE1s Rule of England, Catholicism was illegal and could be punishable by death. Which is probably why Mary kept saying she was a martyr for Catholicism since treason wasn’t a fitting offense Queen to Queen & Nation to Nation.
Mary was so disrespected even after her death
I started my ancestry search and found that Mary Queen of Scots was a many times over Grandmother. Such a sad ending!
She was one of my husband's ancestors as well. I read a book about her life a long time ago because I have always been enamored of the Royals.
@Gary Allen
I don't believe either of these commenters who claim she is an ancestor. Lol
You can’t change history
No one said otherwise
Medieval times throughout all of the British Isles was almost as Evil as hell !
Very good video but a glaring error from narrator who stated it was Queen Mary's wish that Britain and Scotland were united under one crown. It was England not Britain. . Britain did not exist until 1707 by treaty of Union of Scotland and England under Queen Anne. It really is so annoying when English people display such ignorance and lack if facts.. It is rather fitting it was Mary's son who united the crowns although it should have been Mary Queen of Scots who was the legitimate and rightfully Queen of England not Elizabeth who was illegitimate. The Babington plot was a farce fabricated by Cecil, Walsingham and Pheleppes with Elizabeth's knowledge and agreement.. What is convieuiantly overlooked by most English historians and narrators is Mary was given a full state funeral which was paid for by the English Government. Never has it been known that anyone executed for treason was given such it. was a clear admission of guilt by them that they had murdered. Queen Mary. It is Queen Mary's blood that flows in our present Queen Elizabeth I of Great Britain etc who is 13th in direct descent from Queen Mary. As Mary motto was, "In my end is my beginning".
Naurr that’s a whole violation 🤧
I think I was unsubscribed........why yt?? I can decide all by myself which channels I do and do not want to follow 🙄🤦♀️
Royalty was brutal . .🪓 . . Still are ! ! . . 😲
I sincerely hope that 1st blow knocked her unconscious 😢
A queen more than than reign she spent her life in capitivity
Also Queen Mary's inner sleeves were the same colour as her dress Scarlet red the colour of Catholic martyrdom not brown as stated. It was Mary's religion and her god given legitimate Right and claim to the English crown that were the reasons for her illegal murderer equally it was around 300 spectators not 500 as stated. Of course
I just read her bio. Really sad situation in all of her life. Just before her death she made her will and gave all of her belongs to ger servants and ladies in waiting. She also wrote a letter to the king of England. No one knows if that letter was sent to the King
You repeat yourself a lot... What about removing Queen Anne Boleyn and Queen Catherine Howard to Westminster instead of leaving them alone under the floor of a prison chapel. I'm not an East Ender or Roman Catholic" - For they have given me a sort of Living Death.

Mary was not murdered. She was executed for continually plotting to murder Elizabeth.
Queen Mary was murdered by a state who had no legal or moral right to do so. MQOS was the legitimate Queen of England not Elizabeth Tudor who was the base born daughter of The Scandal of Chistendom, tbe vicious nasty vindictive Anne Boleyn, she certainly resembled her mother and also of that despot Henry VIII. Elizabeth Tudor and the English state constantly conspired agaibs Queen Mary whilist in France, they aided the rebellious treacherous Scottish lords, against Queen Mary's mother who was regent for her daughter whilist in France.Cecil and the English privy Council with full knowledge and agreement of Elizabeth when Mary returned to Scotland in 1561. They plotted with the Scots Lords when Queen Mary married Lord Darnley, Elizabeth financed tbe Scots Lords when they rebelled against their lawful Queen and Sovereign MQOS who rose to the occasion and drove them out of Scotland into England where Elizabeth sheltered them and allowed them to remain free and in fact received Moray at court in London something she denied to Queen Mary when she fled to England imprisoned her for 19 years having promised to assist Queen Mary which she reneged on. Tbe English Court with Elizabeth's knowledge were in the plot to murder Rizzo. Elizabeth never warned Mary of it but was well aware of it. When Mary fled Scotland hwving been u lawfully and illegally deposed for her alleged part in tbe murder if Datnley on February 1567. There was not a shread of evidence that implicated Mary tbe so called casket letters were forgeries and manily sonnets, tbe Scottish Lords were implicated up to rheir necks Mary was the unwitting scapegoat and very interesting was never charged with Darnleys murder despite tje casket letters they claimed proved Mary's complicity being in their possessions ftom May 1567 after Queen Mary surrendered at Catberry Hill in May 1567 to avoid unnessary bloodshed. Equally the Scot Lords rose as they stated to free Queen Mary from influence of Bothwell and stated they were loyal to her and would respect and obey her as Queen. It was on tbose terms and to avoid bloodsged Mary surrendered and we all know just how well the kept their word. At conference of York in 1568 after Mary had fled to England having lost the battle of Langside in May 1568. It was then th casket letters appeared. The English nobility5 with tne exception of Cecil were not impressed by them snd rightly suspected them to be forgeries. The conference was transferred to Westminster where Elizabeth personally examined the so called letters and documents. Mary was not allowed to attend in person at eithir York or Westminster yet her accusers were Moray etc were abd had audiences with Elizabeth. They plotted to have Mary detained in England even although Elizabeth had declared she had seen nothing that would cause her to think ill of her sister and Cousin Queen Mary abd also she had seen nothing that convinced her thr Scots Lords had rebelled against their Queen. By thst Verdict Mary was vindicated and she should hsve bern released to go back tp Scotland ad Quern but she was illegally imprisoned whilist Moray was allowed to return to Scotland with a £5000 persona from Elizabeth Tudor
No one supported her son nor her countrymen pope or france
Elizabeth was the ultimate usurper.
How, why?
@@gillianrimmer7733 One could make the argument that only Mary I Tudor was Henry VIII's legitimate heir, and that after her death, the next in line should have been the descendants of Margaret Tudor, the older of Henry's sisters. As it happens, that's exactly what occurred when James, son of Mary Stuart, inherited the throne of England.
@@BTScriviner Or one could make the argument that Elizabeth was the legitimate one, Mary's parents' marriage having been found to be invalid. Elizabeth was the farthest from a usurper: she was clever enough to avoid being executed for things she didn't do, & careful to give her stupid, brash cousin all the rope she needed to hang herself.
Both Mary and Elizabeth were declared illegitimate in their turn by Henry Vlll, but they were both reinstated by him later on, and included in the line of succession in his will.
Until Elizabeth was Queen, there had been a conscious effort by Henry, Edward and Mary to keep the Crown of England out of Stuart hands.
@@SafetySpooon It was Henry who declared his marriage to Katherine was invalid. The pope did not, so in the Catholic Church, Katherine of Aragon remained his one true wife.
boring!
