    Keep beating that horse Dave as you are 100% correct. Luckily we have folks like racetrack scenic filling the gap, ebay and second hand stores for vintage product - found that scaley Dunlop tower in an antique store of all places some years ago.

    I never understood having a "noise maker" for a slot car track. I much prefer hearing the actual noise of the slot car than hearing bad race car sounds. But you are right Dave, there is a big need for scenery, and frankly a market that the big companies are missing out on.

      Like real race cars, the sound of the car is part of racing. The cars already make that and not from a box somewhere on the layout.
      Maybe it could play the anthem before flag-drop. Or the cheering crowd in the stands as the car goes by.

    The C Klasse looks fantastic, we are probably dropping the SCX DTM class at N Staffs for next year, so I'll be pushing to replace it with Slot it DTM if possible.
    Thanks for the update, the Mazda looks good in test car black, saw the real 757B win at LM in 91, god it was noisy, they thrashed that car for 24 hours.

      Tremendously loud. I saw video of the.mtorixed intake trumpets moving in and out by servo to max the torque through the rotor phase. L-O-U-D!!!

    Dave you hit the nail on the head, about the Scalextric track scenery never mind the sound box bring back all the other scenery on the page. Also this hobby is more then just racing to me it is a experience and that is part of the reason I like this hobby of ours, and some have become close friends . Remember the next time you show someone new to this hobby make sure they have a good experience or they will not be back . Gas on keep it in the slot . Bus Stop Raceway South Jersey

    First off Dave, I love your product previews and reviews...my top go to review of new products that guides my buying choices. I love that Policar and NSR are joining Scalextric and Carrera in producing correct livery F1 cars. Please stay on the manufactures about producing plastic track structures once again. I find it beyond belief that the manufactures fail to understand their own market's needs for home racing scenery. The manufactures put so much effort in marketing their home race sets, particularly for Christmas, to create the feeling of miniature circuit racing and then fail to carry thru on the illusion by not providing detailed structures. They could even develop the structures at prepaid cost by creating various KICKSTARTERS. They would have a built-in support base. Another illusion is car racing sounds which have only been developed on an obsolete tech platform, a sound box, when it would involve only current low-price tech to place a sound chip for any of their produced cars, with the actual recorded sounds of that car's actual distinct various engine sounds. There are various specific racing car engine sounds published on file already! As a chip can be put in or taken out of the car by the buyer then that would allow the owner a removable option for realistic sounds or no sound. Just imagine the illusion presented as your F1 Ferrari blasts pass a Mercedes on the front straight with each car having its own unique sound. 100% immersion into the illusion of real racing. The illusion of realism made possible by inexpensive technology will be the driving force for expanding the slot car market into the imagination and pocketbook of the next generation of home slot car sets.

    There is something to be said about sound when driving slot cars. That being said, it has to be the right sound. I really like the real life ambient racing sounds and lap sound smart race adds to the experience. When set to the right volume on a better tv speaker, it makes for a more immersive experience whether you are racing or just doing laps while testing and tuning. Too loud or fake digital sound can detract or get annoying after a while

    • @randytaylor1258
      @randytaylor1258 Год назад +1

      The speaker's in the box, not the car, so the racing sounds don't follow the car on the track. I once saw a real race from the clubhouse with all the sound coming from speakers on the wall behind me. Bizarre.

    Every version of ARC provides engine sounds when you cross the line. It is more or less a Formula 1 V10 sound.
    It also does cheers when the race is over…
    I think it can be changed in the enthusiast built MAGIC app for ARC…
    There is no reason why Hornby can’t changers it for ARC…

    Been harping on about Scalextric scenery for decades now, and the need for it. they have tried to make updated grandstands in the past using cardboard and plastic versions, but its all down to units sold, having said that under the Hornby umbrella they do have airfix, which may be one way to re-introduce at least some of the smaller buildings in kit form. The noise box you showed on your video, well I have got one of those and its quite frankly dreadful, first you have to actually operate it by pressing buttons down and they can hear a spot of change gear noise, but totally in practical if your also trying to race a car. the noise is fun for about five seconds, also used to have the hand throttles which also made an electric motor noise, also heavy on batteries, although the noise was consistent with power supplied to the car unlike the box version. unfortunately for me it was still annoying and very quickly got rid of. the engine noise can however work, for a number of years now a company that usually has a stand at the Uk slot car festival uses an engine noise when a car passes through or under the light bridge and because this noise isn't consistent is a lot less wearing on your concentration. the engine noise by the way is a vrooom type noise, only lasts a second and then stops until the next car goes under the light bridge.
