Project S.A.V.E.: Claire’s story

- When 17-year-old Claire Crawford went into sudden cardiac arrest during a high school volleyball game, she was fortunate to have trained teachers and staff there to save her life.
As Claire's family learned more about her previously undiagnosed heart condition, they also learned the incident occurred in the best case scenario. She needed to go into V-fib in a place where people could quickly respond and have access to a working AED, and where she would be surrounded by people who were prepared to access vital signs and start CPR.

So happy for her and her family. The AD, J Sirmans, seems to love Claire as much as her parents. So nice.
There definitely seems to be some medical negligence involved in the development of this situation. Claire had been having symptoms for months. They were a group of symptoms that can present in a person who is experiencing myocardial ischemia (inadequate supply of oxygenated blood to the heart muscles). She even told her doctor that she thought there might be a problem with her heart. But her doctor refused to order any tests for heart condition/heart function. Instead, he referred her for physical therapy.
Cardiac Arrest is a sudden disruption of electrical signals to the heart causing the Heart Muscle to arrest or stop beating.
@Robert Young What is your point in posting this?
@@LucidDreamer54321 Doctors shouldn't dismissed a patient's description of their symptoms just because of their young age.
@@deeharper1364 yes somehow women are less likely to get help when experiencing cardiac arrest?
@@LucidDreamer54321 These symptoms cannot go ignored. And I believe he is explaining how the cardiac arrest works.
Amazing story. Thank God she recovered and is doing well.
watching her collasp is so heart wrenching
I remember watching this one, it had me shocked and scared, I didn't think she was going to make it at first
There was a young girl who died in our horse barn. She was in a riding class, just sitting on her horse, waiting to jump and she slumped over and off her horse. She had an undiagnosed heart problem.
I’m glad she’s alright
I hope Claire's doing great nowadays.
Hi Claire. So good to see you well and thriving now. Do all young people of school college age have free access to health care?? All blessings, good health and success to you, from here the UK.
PRAISE GOD SHE'S OKAY! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
Amen
omg I feel bad
There's a story of a TEEN with HEART! That's not a joke.
Parents should inspect gym facilities before activities for AEDs and cancel or delay an activity if one is not present. Students play at a very high level of performance and every step should be taken to ensure their safety.
Micheal Taylor aed in my school
Omgu
Was there an Athletic Trainer there?
What was that undiagnosed condition of heart
Yeah ,I read she had cardiomyopathy. It's genetic
I know she had to have 3 bypasses (at age 17), but I don't know the root cause.
@@LiPo5000 I read somewhere that one of her arteries was clogged
@@robertyoung3992 "Not ONE", but three of them were clogged (plaque)! I have read a few followup stories on this girl. She is going to have an interesting life ahead of her.
Robert, I also have read where "several" teenagers already have had attacks due to plaqued arteries! One was 13, almost 14 and probably doesn't weight 80lbs.!
This is totally unbelievable to me! But it's happening! The "human body" is totally interesting period!
The reason I am reading articles like this is I have a BIL who at age 40 almost left this World. He was at work when his happened, long story. My BIL only had one blocked artery, app 90%, that triggered his attack.
They checked him thoroughly, and this one artery right at the heart was blocked! Nobody can figure out how, why, or what started this blockage so close to his heart, and does NOT show any other Plaque anywhere in his body.
His annual checkups don't show anything else in progress! This happened about 6 years ago. Very Interesting.
@@LiPo5000 she had multiple clogged arteries not a genetic conditon she had symptoms for yrs but docs kept ignoring claire even though she has classic ischemia symptoms
She went to my school
Good
same
I believed she had coronary artery disease the symptoms were ignored for a while plus the wrong kind of tests were performed she also might have had a condition with her heart that caused her to go into VFib hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
Yep, she had three obstructed coronary arteries of which she underwent bypass surgery for.
@@mycah1993 wow im glad she is better hopefully she didn’t suffer any heart muscle damage
@abs if she suffered heart muscle damage depending on how bad the damage is she can have heart failure later in life due to the damage also suffer dangerous arrhythmia due to the electrical impulses of the heart being interrupted
@abs yes
@abs heart attack can be due to high blood pressure coronary artery disease or blood clot not allowing blood to flow to the heart, cardia arrest is due to an electrical problem with the heart where the heart electrical system is interrupted and stops
Can't help thinking this is some fake news infomercial, they talk about everything except what caused her heart attack. No idea if she is doing well because they don't give any details. in other vids sounds like she was having pain from her heart for months, they say all that, but don't say why or what treatment she had. So sounds a little suspicious no? You would think they would follow up a bit.
It was Cardiac Arrest you idiot
The Title Says Sudden Cardiac Arrest
@@robertyoung3992 Look you freaking illiterate, I said they don't say what caused a heart attack in a 17 year old girl, cardiac arrest you colossal idiot is not a cause it is a result.
Some causes are hypoxia, congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, heart valve disease, acute myocarditis, drug overdose. Learn to read until then find someone with half a brain to explain the big words to you.
@@robertyoung3992 Thanks Einstein. He/She was wondering about the CAUSE of the cardiac arrest.
@@DIDYOUSEETHAT172 and by the way I think that mention later on you moron that it was a clogged artery
yeah well an aed costs a lot
