I’m not a fan of the discourse amongst some fans that we were poor in this game or that we shouldn’t struggle to beat Leicester. They got a lucky deflected goal and scored a worldie (which I’ll admit Cala should have done better on), and their keeper had the game of his life. 4.99 vs 0.27 xG tells you the whole story
I think the flurry of yellow cards, that were not obvious bookable offences, influenced our body language in the early second half and we became worried that the ref might cut us down to 10-men again. I think that’s why we weren’t aggressive enough, especially on the Seo d Leicester goal.
I love how politely Clive referred to "people" who wanted to keep Vieira instead of giving Ethan these minutes. Good vibes all-round. Great pod as always.
I used to watch this pod all the time last season and then you guys just disappeared from my algorithm- in a RUclips landscape full people scream shouting and arguing for clicks likes and viral clips . You guys always manage to produce a sensible, adult, informative show week in week out 🏆
He was shouting when a cut back was a better decision a bit too much could have had 2 more assists. I rarely see him not taking the optimal decision though
He virtually got the assist for the own goal. If Trossard had been on target for the deflection, Saka would've been the first player to assist in 6 consecutive games. What an odd time to throw shade
Good fun pod, guys. The second half of this game would be great on a Patreon rewatch 😅. Too bad we have another huge game in literally 48 hours and therefore have no time to soak in the glory lol. P.S. When Paul says "woohoo" at the beginning, the mic limiter doesn't pick it up at all anymore 😮
58:34 his second touch past the 2nd defender just took the ball ever so slightly away from him, but it seemed Ethan took that .25 of a second to look up at his target & adjust his stride... sadly he placed the ball too close to the keeper (barely)... but the maturity and calmness of mind from this youngster is sensational... if he can manage to physically stay fit/in the squad, this year might see him go supernova... could he b in the senior England squad next summer? i think its very feasible (speaking as a Yank, so perhaps not the best person to make that call) ha
Hot take: I think Ethan is ready. I also think Arteta knows it (perhaps why he selected him). I also think "ready" is not what some fans think. He doesn't need to be the next coming yet, he is ready to play as part of the midfield rotation. I think ESR, Viera, and Nelson means Ethan and Miles were judged to be ready for first team action. I also think the three we got rid of were all smart business regardless of loan or sale. I also think this means "don't throw them into the deep end," but they will get cameo minutes the way ESR, Nelson, and Viera were getting cameo minutes. Cesc was on the invincibles and played like 2 games in cup competitions and then the next year like 33 games in the premier league. He arrived. Like any player, Ethan will either play their way into more trust or less. Cesc did it at his age, can Ethan? We saw it with Jack...two stories here. Time will tell. Yet I do think he is good enough to go. It is almost as if people have forgotten he is in the first team picture the club photographer took 2 weeks ago.
Good victory. Jesus is a prime example of what happens when you think only short term. He played through a meniscus tear and gambled his knee away. Now he’s relegated to coming on in the 95th min and still failing to be lethal on a 1v1. And that’s besides the numerous bad decisions he makes now on a regular basis because his fitness can’t keep up with what he wants to do. Hope he’s moved on so we can get someone who can actually compete, his wages do not reflect his position in the squad accurately. Heck trossard should be getting Jesus money and Jesus should be getting Kiwior money.
Came out laughing and smiling after half time. Sure said at half time keep focused etc but we relaxed in the wrong way. Otherwise best football we have played this season in large spells. I hope my Calafiori fitness fears won't get realised as so much potential. He was brought on for his attacking attributes.
When you lose 4-2 and your keeper picks up Player of the Match, it says a lot. If he misses one of those big saves in the first half and we go in 3-0 up, we probably don't concede the 2 goals
@@DarronThevarajah yeah nothing is gonna stop us. With the keeper's heroic, I was thinking either a worldie or a scrappy goal will do it, and we did it! (not good for the heart though)
Sadly, the home of football will need to import new talent from the continent! The Champions League feels as if it's less blighted than sheer lack of talent. I've met young refs when my sons' played football, and they were conscientious, confident, and leaders (without leading) on the pitch. The state of English referees is no inspiration for the new generation. It doesn't have to slide into this mediocrity (we've politicians for this) or a league of incompetents! It needs urgent triage now, VAR is the distraction. FFS Rugby refs we need you! Szymon Marciniak...we need you and all your talented colleagues? BTW this is Champions League Analysis - role on the Dark art of Winning.
Trossard comes up with another big goal. What a Baller!...Nwaneri looks more than ready to start & combining with Timber & Saka while Captain Ode is out. Not sure the General needs to start anymore with Rice as our long-term DM. COYGS!💪🦵⚽️🏆🥳
How can this be the best performance yet when we have the best defence in the league we let in two goals to a team that will do well to escape relegation
The second goal was a worldly. And first one was lucky. It happens in football. Arsenal had more shots on target in this game since 2003-2004 season. Imagine all the best attacking performances under Wenger and type of ground it covers.

Reminds me of the time we beat Tottenham 5-4 . Sometimes you can't plan for a mad game. All you can do is outscore the opponent

Good analysis, makes perfect sense

Absolutely love this podcast! Thx guys ❤
Bukayo Saka.... What a player! 0 "goal involvements" yet was the best player on the pitch. One of the best performances by any player in recent times.
He was shouting when a cut back was a better decision a bit too much could have had 2 more assists. I rarely see him not taking the optimal decision though
Bukayo Saka.... Won nothing....What a player!

Great Pod as always! Would’ve been perfect if recorded after Utdvs Spurs - that game had a lot of talking points
I come for the opening monologue nowadays and it never disappoints. 😂

1:19:51 that's a great call, Jesus up front for PSG with Kai on the bench for impact sub... like that a lot
'Dark Arts' summoning a North West Journalist onto the pod is an vintage Elliot doozy

I was watching the game live and asking what we were doing knocking the ball back to Raya at 92 minutes..what do I know. Players believe. So do I.

Could imagine Vieira or ESR start against Southampton with our injuries. So I can also imagine Nwaneri starting ?

What frustrates me with Arsenal is the scoreline never matches the performances. We should of won 7-0
Is there an off hinge door and then a properly installled door behind it?

Trossard cross not on target 😮
Merino back will give havertz a rest
A veritable word salad of statistical bollocks, football doesn't work like that.
Edit, except from Clive, he knows what he's looking at.
Apart from Clive it's always classic bloke in pub opinions. Entertaining nonsense.
Bro you watched a different game. That Leicester game was awful.
