The Kojo Nnamdi Show (88-5.us/q1vKb3): Stephane Wrembel, Dave Spreranza, David Langlois, and Roy Williams play "Bistro Fada" in the WAMU 88.5 studio for The Kojo Nnamdi Show.
I discovered Mr.Wrembel through hearing this tune woven throughout "Midnight In Paris", then bought his album "Origins" which contains "Bistro Fada". The more I listen to him the better I like him....
Yes. And that, in turn, is a variation of _Indifférence_ by Django's good friend, the Belgian-born accordion virtuoso Gus Viseur. Actually, if you listen to "Indifférence," the chords are the same in all three strains.
This tune sounds so much better when it's performed live. This is a great footage with a great sound fidelity. Thank you for uploading! Can't wait to hear him perform live someday.
I estimate this is the 345th I have watched this in 24 hours. And Im not satisfied yet. I can watch it a lot more times. How about the expresion of Stephane when he finishes? Its like he was playing the easiest song, like its nothing compared to what he can do.
I loved the gypsy swing theme for the film Midnight in Paris. I want this kind of music to flood America. We desperately need a dance break from the horrors of hip-hop..
I just watched the movie and heard Bistro Fada for the first time. The movie would not quite be the same without the song. They compliment each other. Kudos Stephane
I hate how people compare these other artists to Django, each artist is their own self who uses music as their creative outlet, no one in the gene is like the next, thats what makes jazz so special!
Simplemente Genial !!!! No matter how old you are or what kind of music u like. This's the way a trio of consecuences can transport you as a thirt part of it, to another world, to another era...to another level
@emremokoko I really look forward to your version of the song. Now that you mentioned it, it truly has an accordeon mood Im sure it would sound lovely. I gotta be honest after 2 months Im starting to be satisfied. Im only watching the video 6 times a day.
Dear Sack - I love your comment. ^_^ I have old Al Green records, and one day my young high school-age daughter came home from school and asked me if I knew who Al Green was... my reply was that she was forbidden to listen to Al Green until she was married. lol My opinion of Mr Wremble is that he beats the zoot suit pants off Msr Reinhardt.
I WAS THINKING THE SAME!!! - When I die, I want him to play this graveside for me. I wonder if they make headstones, that when you push a button, songs play?
Haha Thanks! I love Al Green too. He is AAAAMAAAZIIIING!!! I totally agree with you about Wremble being better than Reindhardt but I believe that we should be greatful because without him we probably wouldn't have Mr Wremble here to share his gypsy magic :)
Darn... It's too bad the camera-person couldn't leave the focus on Steve... We hoping to learn a few little tricks can learn a lot by watching a players hands... Watching a cola can tied to a shoe? ... Not so much. What's the fill chord he plays at 1:06? He played a couple other nice fill chords in the piece too... but the darned camera wasn't on him. Dad-burn-it!By the way, a note-for-not transcription of the original version (as played in the "Midnight in Paris" film) is available at Soundslice. Mr. Wrembel does a short little video endorsement of the transcription there. The piece costs $5 there... but is well worth it. One nice feature is that not only are the chords and melody shown in tab... but as the piece plays, the chords and melody are displayed in exact sync to the music... An added feature is that there is a "speed slider", so the piece can be slowed down as much as you need it, in order to keep up as you play along (without affecting the pitch.)
@aleantonel yes. very astute. it's basically the same chord progression, same rhythm, tempo, and scales. Django wrote & recorded montaigne st. genevieve like 60 years ago. and we know Wrembel learned that tune cos we can see him playing it here: watch?v=lhA_jKBpkZU
@FlippinFlaves The coke can has loose objects inside ( coins, BB's etc). The hole is taped up and when he taps his foots it becomes a shaker. He doesn't play percussion on this song, however. Guitar players do this sometimes due to both hands are in use and since you are already tapping your foot, why not add a shaker to it.
@manucreole let me know if you find the tab to this anywhere please ! i feel like i have looked everywhere and i cant find it but i'm so in love with this song.. :3
I absolutely love this. And the way it is used in the film is tremendous. Thank you Stephane for giving us such a great piece of music

My dad plays this kind of music (gypsy jazz) and this is his favorite song to play.
Cuando la escuché por primera vez, durante la película Midnight in Paris, quise escucharla varias veces, me encantó encontrarla, es hermosa.

+Herr Unsinn The fill chord is A7
+Herr Unsinn the 1:06 chord is Am6. 2nd string - 7 fret, 3rd string - 5 fret, 4th string - 7 fret, 5th string - open. 1st and 6th strings are muted.
Not usual chord form, but works!
+Herr Unsinn Is Am6. My bad.
and THAT, is how babies are made.
Bravo!
Wow that guy could really play the coke can! Oh, the guitar was not bad either...
@aleantonel

Very much like Montaigne St. Genevieve, a very circular, movement in both!
This is actually a little faster than in the movie and it kind of lessen the feelings!!!
meraviglioso vorrei tanto lo spartito

Are the necks of those guitars like the necks of classical guitar or like the necks of steelstring acoustics?
@JanicaJackson YES what is it doing there?
FUCK YEAH
He plays it easy as cheese!!!
La música es tan hermosa como la mujer que se deja ver tras el espejo.
gitarin tonu cok iyi.
@testfriend666 My guess is that it has a marble or coins or something in it that would rattle around when he taps his foot.
