*AutoBoat Install Tip For Best Performance:* In video you appear to have unbolted and flipped your trolling motor’s tiller head around. When you do this you need to be aware that it can cause interference with the AutoBoat GPS unit clamped on the shaft especially if the motor’s factory power leads are rubbing against the AutoBoat GPS puck. So for best long term performance and likely zero issues it is recommended to return the motor tiller head to factory position. If you end up having any erratic GPS behavior this is likely the issue. AutoBoat is crazy reliable and behavior is predictable. 99.9% of the time issues are connected to installation. The GPS unit has an arrow on it and is correctly positioned on the shaft in this video. The only AutoBoat recommendation is the Minn Kota motor head unit being flipped around to factory position as it can cause electro magnetic interference with the AutoBoat’s GPS when it is positioned overtop of the GPS like in video. I’ve been running AutoBoat for long time. It is literally perfect for this Bass Raider setup!
I successfully use this setup on my Newport 48 lb tolling motor, doing duty on either my Boston Whaler 13 w/ Evinrude 40, Hobie Pro Angler 12, or canoe, lol! The only downfall so far is that that the motor/gear assembly screw that mates up with the fixed steering mount, partially striped out the plastic threads, due to loose play and constant handling. I used a stainless hose clamp to secure this assembly better.
Can you tell me how the Autoboat installation affects the shaft of the motor? I want to install a simple remote pulley system to raise and lower a bow mounted motor without tilting it or reaching forward to loosen a screw. You were “going to play with that screw later”, could I adjust that screw to the point where the shaft will still raise and lower without affecting operation? Very concise and useful video, thanks.
That is a great idea for the tiny boat nation with smaller trolling motors. Everyone wants spot lock for there boats. Great item. Great detailed review like always from you. Tight Lines!!!
Today I tried out the autoboat and what a amazing invention and I love it so much and I have already told all my kayak club members this is a great product. Can you tell me how to save fishing spot? I tried but no icon to press to save. Also how to plot a route on the map and let the autoboat follow my custom track ? Thanks in advance!
Unfortunately, I will be setting up a 24 V system, but I’m wondering if I can use this just to steer the trolling motor I am mounting on the back of my boat
Sir great installation video, I just have one question I have a minn kota endura 12v 30 lb where should I install a circuit breaker before or or after the auto boat system?? Thanks 👍👍
Why would this not work on any trolling motor?? If its just connected to the motor shaft why would it need only those 5 or so trolling motors listed on their website?
My first autoboat was a bust had to send it back cause unit was broken. The new one I got works great so far. My question is has anyone thought of a way to raise n lower the motor easily with auto boat attached? I have it on a yak so I can just reach back n lift it
Thanks for the review!!! Looks really nice! Been wanting something like that for a long time. We have a couple of Newport Vessels trolling motors (36 & 55 lb) as well as several Watersnake ASP motors (24 lb). Not sure the ASP will work (not specifically listed in compatible motors), though shaft size is the same so it might. Will have to give it a try next year 😊.
You did a Great product review. I have a 17' 1500lb alumacraft side console boat. I am also using a 55lb endura trolling motor. I purchased autoboat last month. Did Mike tell you to install the GPS sensor pointing the arrow forward? The other videos on line suggest having the sensor on the backside of the trolling motor head to reduce interference? I don't know if it really matters. I still have not had a windy day to verify the anchor lock accuracy. If you use the trolling motor on the back of your boat the anchor lock pulls you backwards. You also have to use the remote upside down to steer the boat correctly. Mike said they are working on a software update that should address these issues. I hope they release the new updates soon or they will have some disappointed people if they use their trolling motor on the back of their boat. By the way, There is a intermittent blue light on the remote that lights everytime you press a button. I have high hopes for this product. The owner in Brazil seems to care about product feedback. Thanks Paul Fish on!
Thanks. Yea I saw the forward arrow on the sensor showing to point it forward. Hopefully they put through an upgrade soon. Enjoy the your autoboat unit.
In this video everything is mounted ok EXCEPT it would be recommended to flip the Minn Kota’s motor tiller head back to factory position. It looks like maybe it was flipped around for a bow control situation before getting AutoBoat. Now that AutoBoat is attached it is recommended to flip head back to factory position since this will position the power cable and head unit farther away from the AutoBoat’s GPS. This reduces electromagnetic interference with AutoBoat’s GPS. Any erratic behavior from AutoBoat is usually due to incorrect/not recommended installation (like previously mentioned) or not calibrating the unit for your area. Calibration sets the unit’s magnetic declination zone. If you travel few hundred miles east or west you might need to re-calibrate to have optimal performance. This is just how GPS works…not really unique to just AutoBoat. Tightlines! 😎👊
you said the remote had a power on and off button thats your on off switch looks like to me.. try using the fone app after you hit the off button on remote that will tell you for sure..whats going on..
I don't know about that anchor mode.. I mean, it is a fairly inexpensive system... but it looks as if it spins you around in circles to keep you in place... is this an accurate assessment? I'd rather have it maintain the direction I wish to point in while in anchor mode. This would be advantageous on my 14ft jon boat, especially if I am fishing with another person
@dartfrogger That's the Beaty of this system. It's allot cheaper than the alternative and has a decent anchor GPS. You may experience some spinning in very low wind conditions but that is not uncommon with anchor systems.
@@BassBrothersFishingDMV ahh ok.. Thanks for clearing that up.... I'll probably grab one this winter. One more question... can you operate the motor manually through the stick if you disconnect the power to the Autoboat unit? It would be nice to have that firect control when I get close to the dock in windier conditions. Thanks :)
When you are in Anchor mode does the boat still fish tail around in place making you have to adjust your feet positioning to line up casts on the same spot ?
@phatpakbaits The tail of your boat will always sway depending on the direction the wind blows. That goes for all anchor systems where the anchor is at the front of your boat.
@@BassBrothersFishingDMVso if you have a back seater in this pelican do they sway back and forth if you are facing the wind ? And by how much ? Can they fish ?
Great video. Autoboat looks like a great product but by the time I pay $650 for Autoboat GPS Pro + the $250 I paid for my Endura Max, I might as well buy a $900 Minn Kota Powerdrive iPilot w/ Spot Lock. Looks like a solid product, though.
Just installed my Auto boat and tried out some function like calibration but my trolling motor did not turn 360 degrees and the anchor lock not working. Does the auto boat need gps connect in order for this functions work? I tried it inside my house and maybe no gps signal therefore some function like calibration and anchor lock not working. Please advise !
I would try to calibrate on the water or at least outside your garage. I didn't have any issues at all. I assume you're using the phone app to calibrate.
Thanks so much for your prompt reply! Actually I did try both app and remote and I was inside the house. Do you think the reason is no gps signal inside that’s why those functions didn’t t work
Technically you can still move the motor manually but not totally sure if that has an effect on the calibration. I'll be testing that out soon and will post an update.
@@BassBrothersFishingDMV Thank you, I'd like to be able to use the motor manually on days with no wind. My question was about being able to switch while on the watet without having to take off any parts. Thank you!
I wondered the same thing. My guess is that the motor itself will pull most of the juice, but I'm thinking of putting a switch on the battery box for the system.
In “off” mode AutoBoat is still running with very low amp draw. Per creator of AutoBoat it would take months to drain the typical trolling motor battery in standby “off” mode. For instance if it stayed connected in your garage it would supposedly drain less than an amp a day I believe he said. I can confirm I have left it connected to my 100ah LiFePO4 weeks at a time without charging and it has not shown any significant amount of drain. We talked about this with creator but we were hesitant to put a switch on the side of the box for fear it would add one more step in which the system would not function when a person might need it to. It also would create one more potential failure point. Also a lot of people just have battery disconnects between their battery and electronics anyway.
