As a first year contra player with the Spartans, finally finding a contra cam from BD 2017 has honestly helped me a lot with my playing. Spartans uses the same contras as BD so this video has helped me a lot with figuring out what tone I need to be aiming for. Especially seeing as I'm saying screw it and auditioning for either Boston or Crown in the fall for shiggles. You guys sounded absolutely amazing at Finals and I'm glad you aged out on a victory. Turner's video from 2016 is actually the reason why I auditioned for contra and not trumpet, which was what I was planning on playing. Good luck with Pacific Crest this season and I hope you guys have a great season!
Do you have any tips for speeding up tonguing speed while maintaining proper technique? I'm still learning the instrument, my main instrument is electric bass and so I'm figuring things out as I go, and I'm having to skip notes in some of our parade music because I can't tongue fast enough to play it. Slurs I have no problems with, but if it's on just one note, say and F or low Bb, I struggle a lot.
I know this is really late but I have been watching a lot of DCI and marching band that I know the melody of most of this whole show but keep up the great work. I am going to do marching next year and this gets me pumped up. I loved this show even tho it is a year late.
I wish I school had contras. We just have sousaphones and they aren't great. Three valves, sousaphone sounds. Contras look like fun and like they are tiring but worth playing it. You are an inspiration and many others that marched with you.
My school uses sousaphones but I’ve used Yamaha contras before and my band director marched in the era of g bugles and straight up told me sousaphones sound better than contras, I looked at him like he was crazy.
Our school uses Contras for Winter Season, and let me tell you from using both, I definitely prefer Contras. Sousas are perhaps less tiring, but they take more effort visually, which is more than it would initially seem since they're basically hugging you and move where you move. Contras are very tiring to use and take much more stamina than Sousas, but I believe the tradeoff in musical and visual improvement is worth the switch.
I knew I could find one of these from the blue devils 2017!!! Thank you so much!!!! I am studying a lot of instruments to see what I want to play because come high school, and DCI, it’s gonna be hard to pick a instrument.
