Thanks Jess as I appreciate your kind thoughts and glad you enjoyed it. I credit this tune to the local East Texas banjo player from whom I learned it, 80 year old Glenn Tate. He deserves the credit for this one.
Thanks and I think you'll really enjoy doing that! If possible, opening up the doubled strings of a diatonic autoharp will also give the extra volume that really helps in a Bluegrass setting.
Reminds me of the Anderson-Strickland version used as the theme song for "Song of the Mountains", a weekly TV show on PBS in VA (originates from Marion VA, hosted by Tim White). The late Gerald Anderson and his musical partner, Spencer Strickland, were at our restaurant in "downtown Maidens VA", Tanglewood Ordinary, for a couple of NYE gigs, fabulous!
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it. This is a popular jam tune at a local Bluegrass jam I attend frequently in Coldspring, TX. This version (their version) is slightly different from most of the others I've encountered elsewhere, but I prefer this version they play that I learned from them at the jam in Coldspring.
Thanks and this is a great tune for banjo as I actually learned this version from a local banjo player a few months ago. I recently wrote out a lead sheet version of this tune I'd be glad to send to you if you like. Simply contact me off-list at whitmer75-at-hotmail.com and I'll be glad to send it to you.
Beautiful. And I'm so impressed by the ability to pluck so many strings spaced so close together so quickly without even looking! Wow.
Many thanks!
Very nice job! I love the music. I'm a Chieftain Indian of the Barefoot Tribe of the Cherokee Nation. My thanks to you Sir.
Thank you very much! Your wonderfully noble culture adds such a richness to all of our society.
Always love your music, Charles, but this was especially nice! Jess

He's great. Got that Mother Maybelle style down pat!
Thanks a bunch.
Absolutely beautiful! This has inspired me to retune my old Oscar Schmidt to something diatonic like that and bring it to a bluegrass session or two!

Beautiful - you made it sound like a whole band! 🇦🇺
Thanks. A lot of it has to do with working the lower strings with the thumb on the autoharp.
@@charleswhitmerautoharp it certainly sounds good 😀
Great playing. Thanks.

I just checked, and it in fact is the same traditional tune.
Wonderful, thank you. It's so uplifting on a cold, grey, foggy, rainy day, here in the Yorkshire Pennine mountain chain.(UK).
Many thanks! (From cool & sunny southeast Texas🌞)
Such a happy song! Thank you for brightening my day.
Thank you!

Suena muy bien, gracias por compartir, que nombre tiene el instrumento que toca? Un saludo desde España.👏👏👏👏
¡Gracias! El instrumento es un instrumento folklórico americano: un autoarpa.
@@charleswhitmerautoharp ok, muchas gracias.🍀🍀👏👏👏
I love this and it has really inspired me to learn autoharp! Where would be a good place to start with this piece (as an intermediate banjo player!)?
