Roy Bridge Request Stop

- It's Monday 23rd September 2019, and on the West Highland line in Scotland (Glasgow - Oban - Mallaig), there's a couple of stations where all the local services stop, but for the Caledonian Sleeper, they are request stops! One of them is Roy Bridge, which I paid a visit to ...
WARNING! Contains excessive level of lawn-mower noises.
Download my Request Stop Map here: geofftech.co.uk/downloads.html
Also, 'Flymo' Lawnmowers for all your gardening needs: www.flymo.com/uk/products/law... They're the best, they must be, because they're really damn noisy.
"Lawnmower Central" station sign = Geoff showing off his editing skills 😊
He should have used Calibri though.
(I'll get me coat...)
I think youll find Geoff is so wealthy from RUclips advertising revenue that he had a local signmaker come out and hand paint 'Lawnmower Central' and then hand paint it back to 'Roy Bridge'.
£1200 well spent.
Notice Geoff is very careful to make sure you dont see his brand new convertible Bentley in any of the vlog, or b-roll.
Rich bastard, dresses from thrift stores
Time stamp, i didnt see it
st0rm callum 6:37
@@nightelf9462 that could actually be true lol
The timing was so perfect! “Can you hear that”............... cue the hedge trimmer! 😂😂
As a Londoner you’re obviously not used to lawnmowers Geoff !
London is one of the most grassy city’s in the world
@@johnnyp9205 True, nearly 50% green. (Apart from my lawn which is 100% brown.)
This is normal everyday activity and noise in suburban and rural areas. Either a lawn mower, motor cycle, caravan generator, or a airplane makes noise all day long. Especially on sunny days, the lawn mowers come out. There is a reason why the movie studios built studios...
@@ronclark9724 or the sound of wives throwing pots and pans at their husbands heads and screaming "Get out! Get out you bastard!" when she discovers photos on his iphone of him shagging his secretary at the conference in Brighton he just came back from.
I mean yeah, he's used to the hum of a very noisy diesel engine, or the echo-ey background noise of King's Cross... but lawnmowers, that's where you cross the line :P
Londoner goes to Scotland and says "there's a mountain over there."
Its Annoch Mor.
@@jonathancook4022 With Ben Nevis off on the right side?
Londoner goes to Scotland and asks a chippy "Do you do fried Mars Bars?"
Londoner's frozen T-shirted carcass gets helicoptered off the mountain.
@@OneKnifeYeHand I understand that in Scottish Haute Cuisine it is de riguer to accompany deep fried Mars Bars with IrnBru. I expect that in the Netherlands they drink Oranjeboom or Advocaat.
(Do Scottish stations have those defibrillator things?)
"ZZ Car Stop"
Nice bit of humour from Caledonian Sleeper there!
maybe it's a hidden clue to ZZ Top
"Welcome to All the Lawn mowers."
Very good 😂
All of them.
Was gonna say something like that, lol.
Geoff needs to do a new series: Lawnmowers of the Overground.
@@nightelf9462 Or to be even more, out of left field, lawn mowers of the Underground....... Because there must be several tireless staff maintaining the vegetation along the lines.
Alternate title: Geoff is slowly driven insane by a lawnmower for 10 minutes
As a fellow video editor let me tell you that lawnmowers are a picnic compared to the sheer background noise hell of a leaf blower.
Roy Bridge has a campsite within 100m. It is ideal for days out using the Highland Rover: Day 1- request stop on 0931 Caledonian Sleeper to Fort William, Jacobite or 1212 Scotrail train to Mallaig and return at 1605, last southbound Scotrail train to Corrour (arr 1825), excellent meal at Corrour, last train back to Roy Bridge at 2120; Day 2: 0804 southbound train to Crianlarich, 1015 to Oban (time for lunch), 1441 to Glasgow Queen Street, 1823 back to Roy Bridge arr 2146. By staying at campsite at Dingwall can spend other 2 days on ticket doing Far North Line, and Kyle-Inverness and Aberdeen. Great value!
Laughed so much when you were like ‘Can you hear that?’ Meaning silence at last, and the noise kicked in again, comedy timing!
"Request Stop!" is what Geoff eventually screamed at the noisy gardeners to get them to stop mowing.
Geoff, welcome to Scotland. The grass gets cut when the rain stops as next cut could be next March. Just saying.
Just saying what?
@@swanningabout No, not what.
Countryside guilt...if you hear someone cutting grass, you immediately feel guilty that you didn’t do yours, so you have to get to it!
@@Vokabre I would take the sound of a lawn mower over hearing police sirens all the time :)
@@Ayeayecapn88 completely agree with you so annoying. I live in east London and can always hear police helicopters flying around in the middle of the night.
@@Ayeayecapn88 At least police sirens have different tones. Lawn mowers sound like the most annoying mosquitos ever. So I'll take a siren over a mower every day.
What a Flymo-by-Night production. This shows that for single platform request stops, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. I like that Corrour was the seed of thought for this though.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the sign on the steps that said "take your kid for a quid"
As someone who lives in an area where on Sunday one neighbour after another uses their lawn mower, I can relate to how Geoff is feeling here, a constant and incessant droning whine for an entire day is horrible!
Shame more people don't support wildlife in their gardens, I only cut the grass once a year, let it grow & see all the wildflowers that'll pop up & all the wildlife that'll be attracted to it. Or better still get rid of the grass & create a wildflower meadow, only needs cutting once a year & it'll be even more beneficial to wildlife.
@Geoff you missed a trick by not adding the graphics for passenger numbers being lawn mowered up 🙄👌✅
Love the fact that the sleeper stop boards say ZZ that’s genius :-)
Such a city boy! I rather like the sound of a lawnmower in the middle distance- reminds me of summer. Leaf blowers, though, you may consign to Hades...
Used to live very near the line at Roy Bridge and the story goes that as toddlers, my younger brother and I would stand in the garden and wave at all the passengers as the train went through
Sounds just like The Railway Children!
7:45 Reminds me of that old Elton John song... "Camera In The Bins"..
It seems to me you lived your life / Like a camera in the bin / Tipping over oh so arty / When it closed again
The locals' pronunciation of Spean would rhyme with Ian.
and also Corrour is pronounced caw-roor
Leave me out of this...😂
Would have appreciated the video much more if he had taken the Caledonian Sleeper.
He's been there, done that...
@@ianmcclavin any link?
@@swaroopkunapuli7805 Try All The Stations , Episode 56.
Saw you guys on "The Worlds Most Beautiful Railway" the other week, done both of you proud, well done!!
Big sympathy, Geoff : that lawnmower would have seriously done my crust in, too! Having said that, it really didn't spoil the video. And you know what they say ... if you run away from your problems, they run ahead and get there first! ;-)
I like the sound of lawnmowers! They're very soothing. Like birds chirping!
Best bit of the Sleeper touch screens is the free Wifi when you stand next to them. (Even up at Corrour.) My phone when notification mad when I connected to it after being off-grid for 2 days there.
I really enjoyed this video of the Lawnmower Central request stop!
This is the first request stop you've done that I've actually been to
Roy Bridge: Home to all the lawn mowers that annoy Geoff😂 ... and the hedge trimmer! One set of noise cancelling headphones on the way to Mr. Marshall!😉 Next time I mow my lawn I'll think of Geoff and laugh!😂🤣😂🤣🇨🇦
I've just wasted 10 minutes of my life waiting for a non-existent Caledonian Express request!
He never said he was flagging it down though, that’s on you
I'm so glad you made it safely along the A86 with no pavement, Geoff. I was a little bit worried when you got off at Spean!
Geoff never stops pronouncing Corrour different, just watch his midgeham video
From someone that got the Caledonian Sleeper on Tuesday night from Edinburgh {after taking the 9.36pm train up from Berwick to catch it and an LNER service home again on Wednesday after spending 9 hours in London; lots of trains} I would recommend taking the sleeper even if it's just to tick it off. It was so much fun. 😊
How ironic, just as I am watching this video about the Caledonian Sleeper, the southbound service from Fort William has passed through my local station (Jordanhill, Glasgow suburban) at 0015 on Friday morning. They do not normally use this route but in the eighties and nineties when they were hauled by noisier diesels you could hear the train as it powered up the gradient to the Station. Keep up your good work.
Loved the lawn mowing going on, so urban
You should pay a visit to the fascinating lawnmower museum in Southport.
Make sure when you're there you check out Lee Mack's dibber!
"Can you hear that, Listen!" Buzzzzz. That cracked me up geoff. 🤣 (Rolling on the Floor Laughing)
Fantastic......happy memories of Spean & Roy bridge.........great stuff.... mind the midges
Don’t forget Entwistle request stop on the Bolton Blackburn line typically served by the Northern service Manchester Victoria to Clitheroe. Great video very informative.
Spean Bridge station has an interesting history. There used to be a branch line to Fort Augustus for a start but its better known as where the commandos got off to do their training from 1942 onwards.
Yes! Another Geoff video!
It’s like yawning, you cannot hear a lawnmower without feeling compelled to mow your one lawn.
Roy Bridge - a cut above the rest?
My favourite Geoff video to date. I'm sorry, but the lawn mowers have their own comedic sense to them. 😂
My favourite moment in any of your videos Geoff, 7:58, perfect comedy timing.
the genuinely happened too! like, it was incredible timing. couldn't have planned it if you wanted to.
We have a (lawnmower) shed load of request stops in North Wales. We have also just entered our 9 month rainy season so you will definitely need your raincoat!
The joys of being a RUclips creator! We've all been there mate :D
Loved This Video Geoff. the lawnmower Annoying you made me laugh so much :)
Stayed in the campsite behind the station. Beautiful area
Fantastic video Geoff keep it up
Geoff was that a lawnmower in the background it was a bit annoying
Love this video Geoff
4:00 Small correction you can actually use the Caledonian Sleeper as 'day train' as far as Edinburgh slightly further than Glasgow. It arrives quite late so isn't very popular but I did it last year.
A litter bin with a free camera inside. Nice.
Love the request stops.
I knew you were going to do this video so I paid those guys to mow their lawns to add a bit of atmosphere.
Chain saws were going to follow and then car alarms. Oh! The peace of a countryside station.............
Geoff, thanks Geoff.
what a beautiful station
Four seasons in one hour... Scotland!
Sounds like here too! Canada🇨🇦
Haha - the funny thing is, we can hear the mower, but it's not bothersome because we don't have it in our ear the way you do. :D Oh, lovely - the guy started up his weed whacker right on cue. :D
Hey Geoff! I've just realised that Entwistle, a station nearby me, is a request stop. I've not even known it was a request stop all this time!
I've actually been around for walking around the local reservoirs, but never been to the station. Never been to a request stop before, might have to!
- Effie
Caledonian Sleeper, fix that touch screen...and give Pilning that bridge in the background. I heard Roy likes that bridge
Avery the Cuban-American yeah yeah
2:05 Tea or station? Tough choice!
Omg....did Geoff manage to have his quota of tea for the day?😉
Geoff that was above and beyond, you walked away from the tea.
All the garden implements 👍
'Later on, Geoff got back to his room, put his feet up, switched on the TV and what was on? The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' ;-p
or "The Lawnmower Man"
Totally understand the noise irritation,i work from home and i have to put up with Gardeners using damn leaf blowers and ruddy strimmers 5 days a week its an absolute nightmare for some strange reason people seem to regard this as necessary noise,no one should have to put up with it full stop,oh well rant over i enjoy your videos keep them coming
is it truely ticking off a request stop if you don't have to request the train to stop?
I was just thinking that!
Quite. Geoff didn't make his intent clear.
Pretty sure the train he caught was booked to stop thus not a request stop
@@jonathanniblock7799 Yes, that's the point...
Hardly noticed the mowers in the background, lovely station.
Do you remember Crayford, Geoff? Under the canopy next to the booking office are several benches perpendicular to the platform edge. Probably about 3m away from the edge.
Lawnmower Central is my favourite request stop
Oh dear Geoff the lawnmower spoilt your fun - my heart bleeds for you 😀
Most of us have to balance work, family and trying to dodge the weather to get the grass cut. It may be 7pm for me after work or 9am.
Please think about us mere mortals who enjoy your videos but aren’t fortunate enough to do the things you are invited to do.
Again a terrific video by our intrepid hero! Why is he not yet in the New Year's Honours List for Intrepid Explorers? Who knows?
It actually runs as a service train from/to Edinburgh - you can boars at Edinburgh with a local ticket
lawnmower central looks like an interesting place
A sign with an arrow one way to the station and the other way to a cup of tea - that's tough!
Wouldn't happen in England :)
In Scotland you have to take what brief opportunities you get when the sun shines to get the mower out - trust me!
haha, Spean Bridge (pronounced Spee - Anne) is my hometown - would have been surreal witnessing you wandering about filming
Lawnmower @ 5:23 looks red to me, so might be a Mountfield petrol mower. Checked Flymo website and they don't appear to do a petrol version?
Geoff Marshall's new channel - guess the garden implement? Nice!
I suspect it's more common that you think - Finsbury Park is at least one example of perpendicular chairs right next to the track.
At 6:37 It should be called Lawnmower And Hedge Trimmer Central Station, where you can hear the sound of Lawnmower and Hedge Trimmer trun on and off at different times.
Seriously, a lawnmower in your video. It sounds the same here in New Zealand on a sundeeeee
Especially as the grass ramps up its growing in Octobrrrrrrrrr and Novembrrrrrrrrr !
Geoff is now the lawnmower man.
Love your videos Geoff! Question - what camera do you use? It’s ace!
SPEAAANNNNNN BRIDGE - My old favourite to visit my da in Skye :D
Is it really pronounced Spain? I thought it rhymed with "clean machine" like the fire engine in Penny Lane.
@@caw25sha On the train announcement it is pronounced how it is written "SPEEN". Unsure whether this Anglicisation or the correct pronounciation
You forgot to go down saaath and do Robertsbridge for all the bridges
55 minutes of walking in just 90 seconds. Only a genius like Geoff can do that 👍
No wonder he was out of breath! 😊
Geoff has amazing calves. And seven league boots, off amazon.co.uk.
Ardwick has a bench perpendicular to the platform too :-)
I actually used Spean Bridge some years ago, unfortunately it was late at night so I didn’t really see anything of it
Beautiful line.
But if you missing your train you cry.
The 1st train from Banavie to Glasgow QS is at 11:25.
6.37 Welcome to Lawnmower Central, Britain's 2,568th station 😂😂😂
Hi Geoff. Idea from my mum. We were driving past Frant station in East Sussex today which is a fair distance from the village itself. What's the furthest distance a train station in the UK is situated from the place it serves? Have that one for free. Cheers.
If this were the only video of yours that I watched, I would wonder if you ever had coherent thoughts.
Well, video finished, I'll lawn the garden.
The next train is the 1800 hours service to Glasgow Queen Street calling Lawnmower Central formerly Roy Bridge lol
How do you actually make the request the train to stop? Both boarding and alighting?
“Please stop!” 😂
Omg 😂😂😂 dying at lawnmower Central
