This is advice for advanced lifter people. 2 1/2 times body weight Deadlift before you even think about artificially lengthier your arms at the start with scapular protraction. However for true heavy pulling this is a must. It is also impossible to get maximal retraction of the scapula With the arms that forward, however non advanced lifter need all the thoracic tension they can get.
This video just fucked over so many people. Andy Bolton, you are one of the greatest lifters ever, and you need to do a video without the guy talking and YOU GO into detail about this relaxed shoulder business. I remember pulling 600 for the first time, and I remember VIVIDLY.... VIVIDLY..... THAT MY SHOULDERS WERE BACK, MID TRAPS AND LATS TIGHT AS A DRUM AT THE START OF THE LIFT, AND I PULLED THAT 600 SMOOTH AS BUTTER. YOU OWE THE COMMUNITY A MUCH MORE DETAILED EXPLANATION OF THIS RELAXED SHOULDER CUE.
Also how does this shorten the ROM? The pull is same distance if the shoulder blades are retracted at any point...start of the lift or not. I think what they are trying to say is letting The scapula protract shortens the ROM the lifter needs at the corresponding joints necessary to grab the bar.
Definitely trying this out on my next Deadlift Day!!! My short arms & I thank you!!!
Andy Bolton vids at ZERO dislikes, how it should be!
Jayne Hall Still does!
exactly correct strive for the lower back to be arched upper back leave it alone. tight lats.

I don't think so. This technique allowed to get rid of my back knots.
Awesome, thanks for the tip Andy!
Or that scapular protraction forces the hips too low in order to grab the bar and therefore increases the ROM
this was so very helpful. thank you so much.
