For the majority of Walter's early career, he was really all the Bears had on offense. No quarterback, no offensive line, no receivers. They used to call the offense "Three Paytons and a punt." For my money, the greatest football player who has ever lived.
Kick, punt, pass, block, run He did it all. Also an example of class on and off the field...a great roll model. That is why he will always remain the greatest of all time regardless of whether his records are broken. That intangible thing that separates the great from the greatest.
MeActions first of all, Rip To The Greatest Running Back of all time, Sweetness Walter Payton. Walter played hurt, sick n only missed one game out of his career. He died young at the age of 46 of primary sclerosing cholangitis which is Liver Disease. U can't tell any Running back, like Emmet Smith, Barry Sanders, Eric Dickerson & even Jim Brown will tell U that Walter Payton was admired by all of them n he worked hard on his craft. He was poetry in motion. I don’t know of anyone who didn’t love watching him play. He was the type of player that would keep you on the edge of your seat for 3 hrs and you’d not even realize it.
Hahaaa that’s class man, you only realised once the game had finished you was on the edge of your seat? 😂 how can such a big dude be so light on his feet?
@@meactions9373 That's the great thing about American Football. ALL these guys are like that even the 6'5" 320 pound linemen. I've been next to these guys a few times and every time I'm like how the F can they be that big and still be that fast and agile. It actually boggles the mind lol.
Glad to see Walter is still getting the recognition his legacy so deserves. I watched him play....he was absolutely the best RB ever. Just look at yards and # of seasons vs anyone else. Emmit Smith who? lol
@@meactions9373 He's long retired. He played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1990-2002 then the Arizona Cardinals for 2 years then retired in 2004. I grew up watching Emmitt Smith as a kid through the 90s and he's a must watch.
emmit broke his record but played for more seasons so its diluted. same thing with barry sanders. sanders and payton are the best no contest. gettin yards because u played longer doesn't make u better.
The one game he missed, was his very first game in the NFL. He was sick, and still dressed out and wanted to play. His coach refused to to play him. That was the only game he ever missed, and not by his choice.
The right player, but the wrong video. There are better videos that give you a better idea of just how remarkable Walter Payton was. Unfortunately, they have yet to combine these videos into a definitive one. There is a compilation called Walter Payton The Early Years 1975-1979 and Walter Payton The Later Years 1980-1987. No reactors have reacted to these videos. No narration, but the runs are unbelievable. He could make you miss OR run you over at only 205lbs. He could catch, block and throw the football. The most complete an unselfish superstar football player I have ever seen.
@@meactions9373 You would be the first reactor to do this. You will never see ANYONE his size not only running around but OVER much bigger players missing 1 game in 13 years. He was indestructible.
He was also an amazing person off the field. The NFL renamed the Man of the Year award after him.
Greatest running back and arguably the "greatest American football player ever".
We bears fans miss sweetness, he meant so much to all of us. There will never be another player like sweetness
Never another man like sweetness
I love all of my fellow Mississippians, but Walter is my favorite ❤️

Give me the heart of Walter Payton, there's never been a greater heart - Jim Brown
Chills everytime
Haha serious? Warrior
“When you’re good at something, you’ll tell everyone. When you’re great at something, everyone will tell you” - Walter Payton
The bears had no passing game. Everyone knew who was getting the ball and he still dog walked them every game 😂😂

@bigd7481 it’s crazy man, unbelievable athletes
He doesn't hold the record anymore, but to beat the old record, took 2 more games a season, and 5 more seasons.
GOAT !

When jim brown compliments you that says it all Jim didnt like know one but he loved walter
He no longer holds it but at the time breaking Jim Brown's record was so monumental no one thought it could be done.
Oooo yeah I hear you, who holds the record now then?
@@meactions9373 Emmit Smith holds the record
Can you imagine if Walter had the o lines Emmit had?
That first run you showed was in 1985….11 years into his career!
6:12 This STILL chokes me up.
Great reaction... R.I.P.Sweetness🏆🏈
Walter was that guy, as a kid I knew that
The one game he didn't play was because the coach didn't play him another running back was having a good day
Emmit Smith broke his record but he sits in second place and probably will for a long time
Oooo serious?? Emmit smith still playing? Or retired? I’ll have to check him out

@bigd7481 thanks a lot man, noted I’ll download an emmit smith video to watch, thanks man 👍🏻

The one game walter missed was because the head coach didn’t put him in not sure the reason but walter could have played
