I must compliment everyone involved in bringing the Second Sister to life. Never before in video game history did I ever go from wanting to kill an antagonist to hoping I'd be able to save them somehow.
I felt exactly the same. I mean her facial expression when Vader approached behind her, that truly showed that she was a slave to the dark side. In fact, it's made me question many Sith who claim to have control over the dark side. It seems more like they gave in due to the torture and broke like the Inquisitors, and then they had no choice but to embrace the dark side. Even Vader is a slave to the dark side. His line to Luke: "You DON'T know the power of the dark side. I MUST obey my master." That line has more meaning now. It's not just temptation to the dark side. It's the pure utter torture and suffering that Vader has to endure that makes him give in to the dark side. And what's more ironic is that Vader is a slave to the Emperor. Yet, it appears Vader is the slaver of the Inquisitors like Trilla. That truly showed how much Anakin Skywalker isn't there anymore. Anakin would never be in support of any concept of slavery. But this wasn't Anakin anymore; it was pure Vader.
Bill Clark I mean not really. She had been assigned to kill a Padawan and failed to kill him 4 times throughout the game and had just lost a map to surviving force users. David would reasonably be pissed

They could have married the obi Wan lowbi series to fallen order by having Reva being one of the younglings second sister saved. And have reva motif for wanting to kill Vader make sense, it would be a treat to if reva wore a freaking sith helmet too

4:12 You can hear the rage and jealousy in her voice when she says :" What Jedi gave their life so that you might live?". Because she imediatly knows that Cal's master most likely gave his life to save his padawan while her master failed to protect her.
At first I thought she was trying to provoke a reaction out of him, but once I realised these Inquisitors may have been former Jedi I wondered if this line was actually personal for her.
After only one appearance, she's one of my favorite Imperial characters in from all the recent Star Wars media. The actress did excellent work, the writers were great with the character and her backstory as well.
"Who was she? Who was this creature that rose like the dawn? As bewitching as the moon, radiant as the sun, terrible as an army poised for battle?". The words come from the author Umberto Eco (The Name of the Rose), but they're a most fitting description of Second Sister Trilla.
A very well-written, very human villain. The Ninth Sister was much more of a thug but even she did a decent job of communicating the horrors that the Inquisitors were put through during their conditioning. That Trilla has a few moments at the end of her life where she starts to have hope again just underscores the amount of misery the Sith inflicted on their enemies.
@@SarastistheSerpent I wouldn't say Trilla is woke. She's basically your foil in the game and the male protagonist eventually beats her after he goes through his own leveling up process. She also doesn't hog the spotlight from the main character, though she definitely has great dialogue and steals any scene she's in. It's also worth noting that while they had her feel remorseful at what she'd become, they still had her die for her sins, unlike the Third Sister in Kenobi.
“No I wont let anyone touch them..” “ I thought the same thing once” Damn that hits so heavy, I cant imagine the thoughts going through Trilla’s head being left alone with all the younglings and then being powerless to stop their deaths or save them from torture. This makes me think of how Darth Vader tried to kill himself after some visions of Padme, but how his hatred for himself was so strong it fueled the darkside to keep him alive. Im sure hatred for Cere fuels Trilla, but what if most of her power comes from her own self hatred of not being able to save the younglings? :(
Well she wins every time she beats you in a duel lol. If she won she would have went on to fight in Rebels but I think Ashoka would have beaten her. Since she had the skills of a Jedi master at that time.
Nah. I think if she's killed by an imperial on the verge of redemption. Seems more meaningful, being executed by someone's who's supposed to be on her side.
She is definitely one of the best Star Wars villains and has become a new favorite villain of mine, that and she was just a well put crafted character, just an amazingly designed character, and excellent voice work by Elizabeth Grullon

09:19 - Cal depowering his lightsaber in his stalemate with Trilla, causing her to stumble forward. Nice reference to the Trakata form of lightsaber combat - which involves deception and deceit by shutting off/reigniting the blade to allow for diversionary feints.
@@ObviouslyKieran Never said he was going to kill her. I just mentioned that the move he did was a nice *reference* to Trakata, which was used by both certain Jedi and Sith vis a vis the diversionary feints.
Too bad when he did that she should have decapitated him or at the very least slashed a gape in his chest...just because he deactivated his he was still standing well within range of her blade cut distance....which is also why hardly any jedi used that style and it faded out of use even before the old republic. Because it didn't work most times

That first scene has anyone noticed that she is looking at Cal the entire time that Prauf is speaking? I believe she already knew that Cal was the Jedi they were seeking she just wanted him to expose himself by killing Prauf.
In my opinion I think Trilla was testing Cal to see what he was made of. Cal retaliating probably reminded Trilla a little bit of herself of fighting the Empire, whether it was the younglings being taken away or having your friend stabbed in the chest.
The saddest thing about turning to the dark side for every Jedi is the feeling that it's all too late. If you read into how Trilla goes about her speeches, it seems like there's no turning back for her.
It's never too late. If one can descend into darkness they can also rise back up to the light. It merely depends on them. Yes, the dark side is powerful and dangerous and pernicious but it can be beaten. Only they can choose which path to take. Because Anakin can blame Obi-Wan or the Jedi Council or the Emperor as much as he likes and yes, they all are partly to blame for his fall, but in the end he CHOSE to become Darth Vader. He CHOSE to embrace the dark side, betray the Jedi Order and deliver the galaxy into the hands of an evil being. It all depends on the choice.
@@samalvey8168 well theoretically it's never too late for other Dark side force users but for Inquisitors... Once you've become one, there's absolutely NO turning back because once they try to, Vader would always be there and ready to execute them. And the Grand Inquisitor knows that, which is why he chose to die opposed of being at Kanan's mercy. Like there's this one time a pair of Inquisitors started falling in love with each other and Vader just straight up kills both of them with their own lightsabers.
Can we please make her a character like Vader? Iconic and with a shit ton of comics, books and appearances. I beg you I need more of Trilla I NEED MORE
Well Vader has 22 years of content before he dies on the death star where as the second sister only has 5 years but we don’t know when she turned to the dark side it could of be a year or even two years after order 66 so where left with 3 or 2 years with her as a inquisitor before she dies not much to go with
I like how this game presented the Inquisitors and how they are just another tool in the Emperors service like Stormtroopers only more formidable but ultimately just as expendable. The fear in her eyes as she realized this was priceless and if this was Respawns intent to make me feel sad for her fate they achieved their goal. Credit to the voice actress for bringing Trilla to life, she was a memorable and elegant antagonist to the end.
The sheer brilliance of Cal being so distracted by the pain he felt just by touching her lightsaber that he loses the holocron is why respawn is still one of the good ones
Duncan McNelis this game had some prequel dialogue during some tense parts though lol. “We’ve been through hell and back” or something like that. and there was another part during a big plot moment but im forgetting lol.
It’s a shame we didn’t get to see more of the Second Sister, Her sadistic sense of charisma really lend well to the feeling of dread in all of her encounters.
She's such a powerful and mesmerizing character. Every scene with her was a rollercoaster of visceral emotion. Incredible work by everyone involved in bringing this character to life
Yeah. It says so much that everything Trilla told Cal about her past turned out be true without exaggeration. Despite clearly trying to kill him, you can tell she was also trying to spare him the pain of being betrayed by Cere (or any Jedi master) the same way she was.
I cannot believe how good Elizabeth Grullon is as Trilla, especially with the English accent and dialect. I could have never thought she was American with how perfect that voice is, complete scene-stealer!
Honestly, when it comes to live-action (and I damn count this game as live-action cause it looks so real), I think Trilla is more attractive than Rey and original trilogy Leia. Iden Versio and Padme are with Trilla in my personal top hottest Star Wars characters.

Second Sister/Trilla: *her master abandoned her during Order 66, captured, tortured, turn into Inquisitor against her will, had a red double bladed lightsaber, badass masked helmet, armor and cape, a cool intimidating entrance towards the MC(Cal Kestis), beautiful and hot reveal, a last minute redemption and her tragic death at the hands of Darth Vader* Reva: *Hates Obi Wan Kenobi that looks like a bully trying to steal the boy's(Maul) lunch money(Kenobi) & tried to mind rape & torture Little Leia*
Yep, Reva was yet again wasted potential, there is just nothing interesting about her character . My favorites has to be the second sister and the Grand Inquisitor. Because at least they are better written and have personalities.

I really hope that they make a game one day where you can play as an Inquisitor. It would be interesting to see from their perspective, and their weapon really allows creativity with moveset.
Absolutely would've made a better antagonist than Ren. The Second Sister has such a heartbreaking story. And Cal Kestis, along with Cameron Monaghan's acting, is truly a relatable protagonist. And he would've and should've been the main hero of the sequels rather than Rey.
They can write good villains. They did it with her and they did it with commander Versio in Battlefront II as well. They just...don't care about the movies anymore, i guess.
I know Cal and Trilla had zero romantic chemistry. But damn, I wish there was an option to at least hug her when she looked so frightened when Vader approached. I absolutely felt so sad for her because she never got to live a life of freedom. Her entire soul was stripped apart and beaten into submission until there was no other choice but to obey. How sad that a beautiful, caring woman had to endure such suffering.

Personally, I would have preferred if the ending had Trilla redeemed and Cere dying in a noble sacrifice of sorts. That sets up a sequel game with a choice of gender for protagonist (Cal or Trilla), or separate future stories (between games or Disney+ shows) with Cal continuing his journey and Trilla struggling with her internal demons. But alas, that was not the case. Also, remember people who think this game isn't Disney. Kathleen Kennedy had the same veto power and role in the story of this game (and Battlefront 2's story mode) as she did for TFA and TLJ, you can't blame her for not liking one and pretend she had no role in the other.

Fallen Order is the exception because it's a Souls game that ordinary people can get into. Remember that they said the same things about Ashoka that they are saying about Rey. Speaking as a Farscape fan who casually watches and consumes Star Wars media, Star Wars megafans are amoung the worst fandoms.
She was one of the best antagonist I’ve ever seen on a video game. I can’t believe I went from wanting to destroy her to giving her a hug. Poor Trilla, got played and turned by the dark side just to find her fate by Vader.

To be fair, that’s not a very difficult feat. The difference between Trilla and Reva is Trilla is actually a threatening antagonist, and beyond that, she’s also a fresh and interesting character, too. Reva is not threatening at all, and they didn’t spend any time making her appealing.
Trilla is Indimating because of her sarcastic but yet deadly Personality and has a hot Accent, while Reva is trying to avenge her Youngling Friends by trying to kill Anakins Son, she has no Reason to be a Inquistor she is just a Victim to the Empire.
Villains like Vader, Sidious, Boba Feet, Jabba the Hutt, etc. from the OG trilogy set a pretty high standard for enemies and villains. When Dooku, Maul, and so many more were introduced in the prequels, that bar was set even higher. So far, I think its been kind of rough for Disney to try to capture those same vibes that we get from older villains in newer ones. The Clone Wars did pretty good and some of the spinoff movies. Second Sister is example of a very well thought out villain, that really made you feel something and fall in love with the character, despite her actions. Someone needs to take notes, because Kylo Ren doesn't stand a chance against this inquisitor!
Does anyone else think Trilla had the Holocron with her because she deep down, subconsciously, hoped Cal would be able to take it from her? Why else would she take it to a place her master knew about, especially considering the fact that there must be a thousand other secret Imperial fortresses to take it to? And we saw how fast she got redeemed (I mean, it took a long-ass fight, and a sincere heart-to-heart, but she seemed to let go of the dark side by the end of that conversation, which is made more evident by Vader sensing her doubt and killing her for it).
Virgin Reva - stupidly reckless, taking action before thinking about the consequences of it - get bullied by another Inquisitor - become a subject of depressing comedy Versus Chad Trilla - planning most of her action carefully - is deeply respected by her fellow Inquisitor and scared by her opponent - being one of the only Inquisitor who are actually did badass and threatening
Reva stabbed the Grand Inquisitor, had one of the greatest Jedi ever on the run, almost tortured a child, murdered and brutalized innocents without conscience...all to get Vader to put his guard down so she could assassinate him. That's a bit more than you give her credit for.

The plot called for the heroes to survive numerous deadly encounters all through Star Wars history. The plot called for Reva to do what she did too.

I love the scene early in the beginning after Cal falls and she arrives in the TIE Interceptor. The drop isn't anything new - we've seen that sort of thing before - but there's just something so casually awesome about the way she flicks her fingers over slightly as she's falling to arrest the fall.
It wasn't even on screen nor did she actually slice in half. It's typical Disney bullshit. The moment was epic, but let's not act like Disney has been any better. This whole game reeked of PG kills.
_JNAVS_ We see him in the background getting bisected and it certainly didn’t show his tongue flopping out. There was a shot in a later scene of it Snoke dead with his tongue out, but not comically so and more realistically so. PS Kylo cutting off the throne room guards head. Try defending against that without moving the goalposts
Han Solo's death was more brutal. Yes, it was just a stab wound, but even if it was quite obvious first that he will die, it still felt horrific, especially since even after he was stabbed, he reached for his son, and his son just pushed off him to die while falling into the nothing. I really liked this game, but I honestly don't get what Prauf tried to achieve. It was clear he will die if he says what he says, and there wasn't anything to gain for him in return, they would have still killed the others (honestly, probably did after Cal left). He claiming to be the jedi would have been better dialoouge. We know a Force user can't be deceived so easily, but he couldn't know.
Becoming an Inquisitor literally makes you into a nocturnal bat being with a gimmicky laser sword. Literally, joining the Dark Side gives you no sleep, whatsoever.
It's a shame this came years before Kenobi, Trilla/Second Sister is a much better Inquisitor, character and just cooler in every way. She would have made a much better antagonist.
Wish we'd gotten someone like Trilla in a full feature SW film..I like her (albeit short) redemption story better than Kylo Ren's. Plus Elizabeth Grullon did an AMAZING JOB as Trilla. Absolutely incredible voice acting, writing and the like!

Definitely a wasted opportunity. Not sure if we will ever learn what she said to her or if she just wrote her off for failing her. Luminara could be cold sometimes but I like to think she wouldn't just walk away from Barris without saying something. Obviously it's too late to help her and she'll die before they ever get the chance but it's still something I think about.
I loved trilla she was so awesomely terrifying and powerful, beautiful and such a great villain,I really felt bad for her.When I was playing the game I enjoyed fighting her but I also didn't want to kill her I wanted to save her.For the sake of not spoiling it for those who haven't played I'll leave it at that.
Favorite line from Second Sister "What Jedi gave their life so that *you* might live?" Spoilers Before beating the game you think she says it like that because she's talking down to you, in the way of making you feel insignificant, inferior, not worth the effort, especially not worth someone giving their life for you After beating the game you realize she's saying this line with pain, anger, resentment, not because you are insignificant, but because Cal's presence, lightsaber in hand still clutching on to the Jedi way proves that his Jedi master thought he *was* worth that sacrifice. And her standing opposed to him, having suffered what she did, after being neglected by her master, proves that to her master she was not. As someone who has lived with less than others (we've all had less than someone else, even stuff everyone should have like 2 parents in the home that love you for example) it's easy to empathize with that pain. That others got what they needed from those around them and you didn't. It's easy to hold anger about that, especially towards the recipient of the good thing, even though they had nothing to do with you not getting the same thing.
Dear writers of the Obi-Wan show: this is how you should present an inquisitor And I still think Trilla’s an absolutely fantastic and interesting character in 2024 :)
@NPC the difference(s) is, Trilla is actually a threatening antagonist, and beyond that, she’s also a fresh and interesting character, too. Reva is not threatening at all, and they didn’t spend any time making her appealing.
Trilla was amazing in this game. Her look, voice and acting. Such a cool villain. Watched the first two episodes of Obi-Wan series. Reva is the complete opposite unfortunately. Hope she gets better as the series progresses.

When she said, "Outstanding." When cal ignited his light saber, it became one of my favorite lines. Second only to "Yeah, Probably."

@@SarastistheSerpent I wouldn't say Trilla is woke. She's basically your foil in the game and the male protagonist eventually beats her after he goes through his own leveling up process. She also doesn't hog the spotlight from the main character, though she definitely has great dialogue and steals any scene she's in. It's also worth noting that while they had her feel remorseful at what she'd become, they still had her die for her sins, unlike the Third Sister in Kenobi.

Damn that hits so heavy, I cant imagine the thoughts going through Trilla’s head being left alone with all the younglings and then being powerless to stop their deaths or save them from torture.
This makes me think of how Darth Vader tried to kill himself after some visions of Padme, but how his hatred for himself was so strong it fueled the darkside to keep him alive.
Im sure hatred for Cere fuels Trilla, but what if most of her power comes from her own self hatred of not being able to save the younglings? :(

The Second Sister was easily the most compelling character in the whole game. Sort of wanted her to win.
Well she wins every time she beats you in a duel lol. If she won she would have went on to fight in Rebels but I think Ashoka would have beaten her. Since she had the skills of a Jedi master at that time.

09:19 - Cal depowering his lightsaber in his stalemate with Trilla, causing her to stumble forward. Nice reference to the Trakata form of lightsaber combat - which involves deception and deceit by shutting off/reigniting the blade to allow for diversionary feints.

Too bad when he did that she should have decapitated him or at the very least slashed a gape in his chest...just because he deactivated his he was still standing well within range of her blade cut distance....which is also why hardly any jedi used that style and it faded out of use even before the old republic. In my opinion I think Trilla was testing Cal to see what he was made of. Cal retaliating probably reminded Trilla a little bit of herself of fighting the Empire, whether it was the younglings being taken away or having your friend stabbed in the chest.

The saddest thing about turning to the dark side for every Jedi is the feeling that it's all too late. If you read into how Trilla goes about her speeches, it seems like there's no turning back for her.
It's never too late. If one can descend into darkness they can also rise back up to the light. It merely depends on them.
Yes, the dark side is powerful and dangerous and pernicious but it can be beaten. Only they can choose which path to take. Because Anakin can blame Obi-Wan or the Jedi Council or the Emperor as much as he likes and yes, they all are partly to blame for his fall, but in the end he CHOSE to become Darth Vader. He CHOSE to embrace the dark side, betray the Jedi Order and deliver the galaxy into the hands of an evil being. It all depends on the choice.

Once you've become one, there's absolutely NO turning back because once they try to, Vader would always be there and ready to execute them. And the Grand Inquisitor knows that, which is why he chose to die opposed of being at Kanan's mercy.
Like there's this one time a pair of Inquisitors started falling in love with each other and Vader just straight up kills both of them with their own lightsabers.

I like how this game presented the Inquisitors and how they are just another tool in the Emperors service like Stormtroopers only more formidable but ultimately just as expendable. The fear in her eyes as she realized this was priceless and if this was Respawns intent to make me feel sad for her fate they achieved their goal. Credit to the voice actress for bringing Trilla to life, she was a memorable and elegant antagonist to the end.

Yeah. It says so much that everything Trilla told Cal about her past turned out be true without exaggeration. Despite clearly trying to kill him, you can tell she was also trying to spare him the pain of being betrayed by Cere (or any Jedi master) the same way she was.
That tiny wave Vader does as the only thing he requires to push her aside...I love it xD

Honestly, when it comes to live-action (and I damn count this game as live-action cause it looks so real), I think Trilla is more attractive than Rey and original trilogy Leia. Iden Versio and Padme are with Trilla in my personal top hottest Star Wars characters.

I know Cal and Trilla had zero romantic chemistry. But damn, I wish there was an option to at least hug her when she looked so frightened when Vader approached. I absolutely felt so sad for her because she never got to live a life of freedom. Her entire soul was stripped apart and beaten into submission until there was no other choice but to obey. How sad that a beautiful, caring woman had to endure such suffering.

Such a well written and well acted character. I actually felt really bad when she died.
Personally, I would have preferred if the ending had Trilla redeemed and Cere dying in a noble sacrifice of sorts. That sets up a sequel game with a choice of gender for protagonist (Cal or Trilla), or separate future stories (between games or Disney+ shows) with Cal continuing his journey and Trilla struggling with her internal demons. But alas, that was not the case.
Also, remember people who think this game isn't Disney. Kathleen Kennedy had the same veto power and role in the story of this game (and Battlefront 2's story mode) as she did for TFA and TLJ, you can't blame her for not liking one and pretend she had no role in the other.

To be fair, that’s not a very difficult feat. The difference between Trilla and Reva is Trilla is actually a threatening antagonist, and beyond that, she’s also a fresh and interesting character, too. Reva is not threatening at all, and they didn’t spend any time making her appealing.
Trilla is Indimating because of her sarcastic but yet deadly Personality and has a hot Accent, while Reva is trying to avenge her Youngling Friends by trying to kill Anakins Son, she has no Reason to be a Inquistor she is just a Victim to the Empire.

Villains like Vader, Sidious, Boba Feet, Jabba the Hutt, etc. from the OG trilogy set a pretty high standard for enemies and villains. When Dooku, Maul, and so many more were introduced in the prequels, that bar was set even higher. So far, I think its been kind of rough for Disney to try to capture those same vibes that we get from older villains in newer ones. The Clone Wars did pretty good and some of the spinoff movies. Second Sister is example of a very well thought out villain, that really made you feel something and fall in love with the character, despite her actions. Someone needs to take notes, because Kylo Ren doesn't stand a chance against this inquisitor!

Does anyone else think Trilla had the Holocron with her because she deep down, subconsciously, hoped Cal would be able to take it from her? Why else would she take it to a place her master knew about, especially considering the fact that there must be a thousand other secret Imperial fortresses to take it to? And we saw how fast she got redeemed (I mean, it took a long-ass fight, and a sincere heart-to-heart, but she seemed to let go of the dark side by the end of that conversation, which is made more evident by Vader sensing her doubt and killing her for it).
Yeah like deep down she wanted to be redeemed, but she was fighting against that thought because of The Dark Side.

Reva stabbed the Grand Inquisitor, had one of the greatest Jedi ever on the run, almost tortured a child, murdered and brutalized innocents without conscience...all to get Vader to put his guard down so she could assassinate him. That's a bit more than you give her credit for.

The plot called for the heroes to survive numerous deadly encounters all through Star Wars history. The plot called for Reva to do what she did too.

I love the scene early in the beginning after Cal falls and she arrives in the TIE Interceptor. The drop isn't anything new - we've seen that sort of thing before - but there's just something so casually awesome about the way she flicks her fingers over slightly as she's falling to arrest the fall.

Han Solo's death was more brutal. Yes, it was just a stab wound, but even if it was quite obvious first that he will die, it still felt horrific, especially since even after he was stabbed, he reached for his son, and his son just pushed off him to die while falling into the nothing.
I really liked this game, but I honestly don't get what Prauf tried to achieve. It was clear he will die if he says what he says, and there wasn't anything to gain for him in return, they would have still killed the others (honestly, probably did after Cal left). He claiming to be the jedi would have been better dialoouge. We know a Force user can't be deceived so easily, but he couldn't know.
Second and Ninth sisters were more intimidating than the 3rd sister , 4th sister , 5th brother , 7th sister and 8th brother combined.

Definitely a wasted opportunity. Not sure if we will ever learn what she said to her or if she just wrote her off for failing her. Luminara could be cold sometimes but I like to think she wouldn't just walk away from Barris without saying something. Obviously it's too late to help her and she'll die before they ever get the chance but it's still something I think about.

I loved trilla she was so awesomely terrifying and powerful, beautiful and such a great villain,I really felt bad for her.When I was playing the game I enjoyed fighting her but I also didn't want to kill her I wanted to save her.For the sake of not spoiling it for those who haven't played I'll leave it at that.

Before beating the game you think she says it like that because she's talking down to you, in the way of making you feel insignificant, inferior, not worth the effort, especially not worth someone giving their life for you
After beating the game you realize she's saying this line with pain, anger, resentment, not because you are insignificant, but because Cal's presence, lightsaber in hand still clutching on to the Jedi way proves that his Jedi master thought he *was* worth that sacrifice. And her standing opposed to him, having suffered what she did, after being neglected by her master, proves that to her master she was not.
As someone who has lived with less than others (we've all had less than someone else, even stuff everyone should have like 2 parents in the home that love you for example) it's easy to empathize with that pain. That others got what they needed from those around them and you didn't. It's easy to hold anger about that, especially towards the recipient of the good thing, even though they had nothing to do with you not getting the same thing.
Dear writers of the Obi-Wan show: this is how you should present an inquisitor
And I still think Trilla’s an absolutely fantastic and interesting character in 2024 :)

@NPC the difference(s) is, Trilla is actually a threatening antagonist, and beyond that, she’s also a fresh and interesting character, too. Reva is not threatening at all, and they didn’t spend any time making her appealing.
And The Grand Inquisitor from Rebels is far superior than the one in Kenobi.
@NPC and now that the series is finally done, Reva is still extremely non-threatening xD
Trilla was amazing in this game. Her look, voice and acting. Such a cool villain. Watched the first two episodes of Obi-Wan series. Reva is the complete opposite unfortunately. Hope she gets better as the series progresses.
