I rode the Electroliners on the Red Arrow to Norristown, Pennsylvania. Thanks to the late Merritt Taylor, Jr. for saving them. I knew him well. I tried to convince him to buy the Illinois Terminal PCC cars and he sent the VP of Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Company out to inspect them. They were turned down because of the PCC trucks and they only had one set of doors per side. Too much money to retrofit them. The PCC trucks wouldn't have rode well on the Philly Suburban tracks, they claimed. When will the interior of your Electroliner be restored? The exterior is gorgeous. Rock Hill has their Electroliner painted in the Red Arrow Lines paint scheme. And it is operable, but it draws an enormous amount of power.
That Electroliner brings back memories. I used to ride them for fun when they ran out of Upper Darby when they were the Liberty Liners. I never kept track of which one I rode because I never thought we would ever lose one. I even have souvenir napkins and coasters from the bar. We ordered Cokes because we were only teenagers at the time.
@@solidarityrail2551 You are 50% correct sir. There were only 2 made as you say but both came to the Red Arrow lines. One was named Valley Forge and the other Independence Hall. Both were sold in 1981. One is at a Museum in PA and the other went back to Chicago. My recollection is that they both made a Westbound trip out of Philly to Upper Darby each evening rush hour. The last time I saw the one in the museum it was in rough shape.
Thanks for sharing. Especially the electrics, including the electroliner. Great shots. I know she especially is looking forward by many of us. Hope they will take her out for at least photos during members weekend
I've seen that Electroliner at IRM, but haven't ridden on it. Love seeing the 4000s signed as an Evanston Express. I still remember when they ran on that line.
Really happy the Electroliner is up and running
Same. Beyond thrilled
Man I gotta run that electro liner
I'm sure glad the Electroliner is up again running.
Wow for the first time in years the Chicago North shore and Milwaukee Railroad streamlined electric liner is back in service
