      The engineers are chugging along... I think they were the first to be able to do some of these special functions, and they do alot that some other tools don't... But I wish they would see how a tool from china, AUTEL, is making inroads and even kicking there butts in some areas.... In the diagnostic tool game, you can't rest on your laurels...

    Hi Tim
    I'm also stuck with a 2011 R60 Countryman Replacement DME and CAS
    I bought Autel IM508 with XP400Pro as well as their Gbox2 I still have not been able to get this car started somehow the CAS Eeprom reads the correct Vin and mileage but still some info from the donor car.
    No working keys so no dash lights.
    The Abrites software seems to do this easy.
    Can you tell me exactly what I would need to buy.
    Their site specifies a lot of options, I'm not sure wich way to go?
    That was a great video thanks.

      Soooooo, lets start at the begining... You have a 2011 Countryman and you bought it with out a CAS or DME?? or are you trying to install the DME and CAS from another car because one of your originals was bad?? If you get a set from the same car, and a key, you should be able to plug and play.. the ISN is only in the DME and CAS, if they are realy from the same car, they should be OK, the only way they get unsynced is if you try and put one or the other into the car and power it up... that will cause the DME and CAS to become unsynced...

Will need a new DME that's German for PCM, ECU ( computer ). The car runs and drives and is very fast. Throwing a DME code. So when you start the car it revs up and down. do you really think you can clear all the errors by disconnecting the battery?? if that was so, everytime you disconnected the battery, the CAS and the DME would loose sync .. the cas and the DME have memory chips that save the data that is written into them.. If it was that easy, there wouldn't be any shops replacing these modules.. dealers would go broke, kaos would ensue... But really, no you can't just disconnect the battery and have all the errors go away..

    • @timtracy9442
      @timtracy9442  3 года назад

      You would have to send an email to Abrites and ask which special functions can do what... I buy the whole package so I don't run into that dreaded warning, License not found.... As for changing mileage, you can change the mileage in all but the cluster, and if you change all the mileage in the other modules, the minute you put the cluster back in, it will revert to that mileage... The best way is to remove the cluster, change mileage on the other modules, then use a program such as Digiprog and a new chip in the cluster to reset mileage in the cluster, then put it back in the car... Actually had a 2010 335i that a ( Automotive locksmith) put a CAS and DME into to get the car running.. easier than actually making a key for the car I guess.. The only issue was the donor vehicle had double the mileage on it... the car went from 72,000 to 148,000... the car lot wasn't happy loosing thousands of dollars... so we changed the mileage in the other modules with the cluster out, then read data from the chip in the cluster, then wrote that data and the correct mileage into a new chip, then viola, life is good.. Just remember the chips BMW/MINI put into there clusters are what are called incremental chips... they can only increment upwards...

    • @timtracy9442
      @timtracy9442  4 года назад +4

      I have never been able to rewrite the ISN of a DME.... I have been told by the engineers in bulgaria that AVDI won't do it... I have been told that autohex and explorer and diagspeed can all change the ISN in the DME... and my thoughts are, that would be way faster and easier than this process.. But I don't have those, and I have been asked many times about the ISN encryption and why we do it on CAS3+ that I figured I would finally make a video showing the steps... Just realize, when you say, if you had the CAS eeprom, have you ever removed a CAS3 from a R56 Mini??? If you read the reply above you will see where I am getting old, I am also getting rather lazy.... All of this was done by OBD2.. on a BMW, getting the CAS out and reading it is easy, on a mini, it's under the dash pad, in front of and to the right of the steering wheel... you have to take most of the dash apart..

    • @MWalsh_NY
      @MWalsh_NY 4 года назад

      Oh I totally understand what it takes to remove a CAS module from a mini, it was more of a hypothetical question. Because I thought, like you mentioned, that Autohex was capable of doing what I mentioned. I have Autohex full but haven’t had this opportunity. I do have a MSV80 on my bench to play with and a reading from an actual car. I can try and write my dump to my donor one and see how it goes. Thank you for the response.

      @@timtracy9442 Thanks for the reply. Initially the previous owner threw a lot of parts diagnosing it, and told me that the last thig to do was to change out the DME. I bought the mini and did the same thing. Dumped some money in it hoping to fix it. Rough Start, but once its warm I can drive all day. I found a company that claims to "FIX" DMEs. So I snapped a pic of my DME and sent the module in. They sent back a DME. But not the one I sent them. I plugged it in and still have the rough idol when cold, and now a new code of no communication with the transmission control module, and now the cruise control doesn't work. I found out that the order number is wrong. I also found out the DME I sent to them is not the original one that came from the factory. Apparently the previous owner swapped it out. That's when I stumbled upon your video. I'm tired of jacking around with people that say they know what they're doing. You seem to be very knowledgeable. All I want to do is drive.

      @@sxshn8 I know how you feel... Sooo, the DME is probably coded wrong for the car.. When you replace the DME with one from BMW, they code it with information from the Vehicle Order, which they have on there server, when you put a used DME into the car, you have to first either change the ISN in the DME to the cars ISN, or you change the ISN in the CAS to match the new/used DME's ISN, then you change the VIN in the new/used DME, then you you go to the vehicle order, which is saved in a few modules in the car, read it and then the program that data into the new/used module's... I would ask around to your local locksmiths or shops and see if anyone has Abrites.. The online version is pretty good at programming these.. good luck.. Right now I am trying to figure out why a 2015 550i sport won't transmit data from the CAS4 to a new/used DME.. sometimes I think BMW made this stuff like this just so you have to take it back to the dealer and buy new parts, or a new car...

      I don't think you can buy a used DME with the same VIN as your cars.. they are all unique... The reason you encrypt the ISN is because on this car it has a CAS3+, the CAS sends data to the DME and the DME has software in it that decrypts the ISN.. if you didn't encrypt the ISN in the CAS, when the CAS sent the data to the DME it would be wrong...

      The only software that comes with the interface is diagnostic tools... To virginize and program any modules you have to buy the special functions.... As for TCM, if you are asking about the conductor plate, yes, it does awesome on used modules, but has some issues on new from dealer modules... The modules from the dealer are coming without a base file, you can download the zip file which has just about all of the base files for the modules from Abrites, but you have to ask for it.. As for the BMW/Mini cars, I really like what AVDI can do for the later models, 2006 and up, prior to that there isn't much coverage.. Also, check out the Autel Maxisys elite, it is a great tool...

It powered up without any warning lights and a solid key light. I'm guessing I need to code something...Im wondering if the origin car was an auto (mine is a 6spd) and maybe that's the issue.

      No sir, I am in the US... Lots of locksmiths in the UK have AVDI though... Call around..

    hi good i can ask you a qquestion about advi and ford

    • @timtracy9442
      @timtracy9442  4 года назад

      That depends.... AVDI and Ford are not the best fit.... Some cars it does well, others, it doesn't do much at all.... I had a 2006 Mercury sport ute (same as a ford Escape) where I tried to replace PCM, tried with AVDI, no go, tried with AVDI as the passthru and FJDS as the programer, didn't work... Bought Drew Technologies Cardaq2+, and used the FJDS and module programmed right in.. 2010 ford fusion, customer replaced ABS module with used one, used avdi, downloaded ETIS data, ran the program, it updated coding and VIN in abs module... Tried to change mileage on a 2008 Ford F150, wouldn't do it, sent email for tech support, they came back with not supported, when I asked why it was listed in the manual, they said maybe some day... If you are just doing key programming, the AVDI is just fine...

    Hi Tim after sync and coding was the egs dtc still in dme

    • @timtracy9442
      @timtracy9442  4 года назад

      No, after I synced the CAS to DME, the anti tamper DTC and the loss of sync DTC cleared.. The car had been sitting for awhile, after I started it, it started having some misfires, cylinders 1 and 3 were the worst... The shop was going to change out plugs and coils and then put decent gas in it.. This will be the 3rd one I have done for this shop in the last 6 months, and most have plug and coil issues... I was amazed that the VIN had been changed in the DME, you could see the old VIN, but the cars vin was in there.. After the page long report from the dealer saying they couldn't do anything, it made me wonder who put the VIN in there....

      The reason why i asked i am doing an e84 atm and the used dme was from an automatic going into a manual the coding for the vehicle does not have egs in it i have used ncs dummy to clear the cas anything related to an auto but to no avail, updated the dme with winkfp but still thinks it is an auto, fans run all the time due to missing temp from egs.

      @@davidgillingham7074 with abrites, you go into advance coding, and most times you can code out somethings like that... but I have had a few that would not code out the difference in auto to manual... Ended up reading data from a manual DME via BDM and then transfering that data over to the DME we were using... when we were done the DME showed a totally different part number... Soooooo, I think there are DME's out there that were only programmed to automatics... just my thoughts.. that and five bucks will get you a small coffee at starbucks... Right now we are fighting a 2006 # series that is having a sporadic voltage drop to the ESL, every once in awhile the CAS sees it and freaks out.. the shop replaced the CAS, and the ESL, still having issue.. replaced ESL with emulator, same issue.... We are now trying to code the ESL out of the CAS... Fun with BMW's.. oh boy....

      @@makaynchealhalibbealkhooo9673 I would love to have Autohex... But I can't afford to have all the tools that I want.... there are many things that autohex and explorer and diagspeed will do that Abrites won't do, or is harder to do, But if you spend ten grand on each of these, you have alot of money that you have to pay off to get a return on your investment... Merc trans conductor plates fresh from dealer with no base file, Autel has there own server, you link up, it downloads the files and programs the plate... blew me away... and a BMW Z4 B-pillar module, AVDI wouldn't even talk to it, Autel not only programmed it to the car, it also set the clocks on all the airbag modules... % minute job... well worth the money...
