Franklin was created as a result of MLK's assassination (first appearance on July 31, 1968). It's about time he got an actual story - and a freaking last name.
It's good to hear that Franklin is becoming a more prominent peanuts character. He never was a bully like Lucy nor bullied by anybody like poor old Charlie Brown which is good.
My understanding of how Franklin came into the Peanuts was After the assignation of MLK, a Los Angeles school teacher wrote to Charles Schulz. Schulz wasn't sure how to do it, declined to do anything. But that Los Angels ask some Black/African American friends and their family to also write to Schultz. When there was an overwhelming want and need to do something different in the Peanuts he did and on July 31, 1968 Franklin was introduced. This is all at the Charles M Schulz Museum in California. But I did not know Franklin didn't have a last name until He met a fellow cartoonist Robb Armstrong. That was a nice and true story.
The idea behind Snoopy Presents is to give each character their own episode, which is all about them. I can't wait until Schroder gets his own episode. A Pig Pen episode would be fantastic, too.
If pig pen gets his spotlight in the next special, Violet Gray and original Patty would have their biggest roles because they would likely be berating him and scolding him for being dirty just like in the comics.
