@NintendoComplete: Too bad it's a standalone beat-'em-up, though. In my humble opinion, the now-defunct Data East could probably have created a franchise out of this game with its wacky premise.
Night Slashers is so awesome, criminally underrated but very memorable, definitely one of my all time favorites in the arcade. Masterpieces like this make me feel sad that Data East is gone.
Never got to play this one in the arcades, but it became a favorite of mine after MAME came around. Really great game. That squooshy sound after you kill monsters is very memorable.
Yep, just as over-the-top gory as I remember it! And as usual you played it like a pro. Great to see horror games for October, the best month of the year leading up to the best holiday of the year!
Did you play this this in the Arcade??? I was wondering if the see through walls in the beginning of level 1 and the Wagon in the 2nd level are an emulation bug or not.
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS GAME FOREVER! All I could remember was it was a side scroller and there was a stage coach chase scene. Oh man Im so happy I finally found it.

what this game needs is a hack to combine the best elements of all versions into one... the english text, the red blood, and the other uncensored elements (like the undead killing crosses)
@@moviemetalhead Actually, now that I think about it, I think this was the US version. I forgot all about it when I replied earlier, but I believe the game had an option in its system menu to turn the blood red.
@@NintendoComplete I think you're right, the Japanese version had it right off the bat. It's just like House of the Dead, gotta go with red blood in that one too.
@Moviemetalhead: The only censored version of Night Slashers is the Korean version. Then again, when you really think about it, the only difference between the international version and the Korean version is the option to change the color of blood in the international version while the green blood is mandatory in the Korean version. The Japanese version is the same as the international version, albeit in Japanese dialogue and added cutscenes, plus the "Go!" sign also says "To Hell!" on its other side.
Damn, haven't played this game since the mid 90s on summer's holidays at a game's hall... That first level with zombies gave me nightmares, being a kid it surely left an impression... Forgot the name of the game and couldn't find it until recently, after all these years, underrated gem for sure...
Same here. Could only play once on an arcade on a summer holiday far from my hometown circa 93-94. It made me a huge impression (especially that first level with the corpses in plastic bags), but I wasn't able to remember the name and searched it during a lot of years. Somehow on 2006 I found a title named "Night Slashers" was emulated by MAME and gave it a try. It was like opening a time capsule.
@@rapiqui Yeah, must've been around those years too, i always went to this place for summer's vacations and they had a pretty big arcade and this was there. Those zombies scared the crap out of me, including the ones rolling down in those cadaver's bags!
The late '70s, all of '80s, and early '90s was the golden age of, well, I was going to say video games, but really, it was the golden age of everything. Ain't ever gonna be that golden again.
If CastleVania was Streets of Rage or Final Fight in an arcade cabinet. Cool of how the game kept going through other levels after beating of what you would think would be the main boss.
@@trontosaurusrex9532the fact that Night Slashers X doesn't have Jonathan, Joseph and Jotaro as playable characters will eternally hurt my soul. But, at least we got the KING, Ash Williams in the game.
Do NOT get the switch version of this.. Just played through it on switch with Johnny Turbo's arcade.. Great beat em up but unfortunately he has the controls reversed (he obviously designs for a and b layout of x box one then doesn't fix it for switch), on ALL his games.. still by the last stage i was pressing special attack instead of attack. He doesn't allow custom control mapping unlike the hamster arcade archives, and doesn't have ANY options from the original arcade game and just seems to have everything set on the highest difficulties.. and to top it all off, more expensive than the hamster games in many cases.. it's just so disappointing but I still got some enjoyment out of it. I bought all his games before i even played them, and really regret it.
I remember coming across Night Slashers in the fall of 1994 at my local, now-gone movie theater, and was mesmerized with its mixture of B-grade horror movie monsters and beat-'em-up gameplay. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to truly enjoy the game until the age of emulation. While I've always liked this game, I am disappointed that the B-grade horror-movie theme loses its steam after the third stage in my humble opinion. I was actually hoping for you to pick Hong-Hua Zhao, the "Guy" of the trio (seriously, it seems like Data East literally copy/pasted Guy's combo animations from Final Fight and redrew them as Hong-Hua). Oh, well. By the way, this game has a Free Play mode, if you didn't know. EDIT/ADD: By the way, there's an OpenBOR fan remake of Night Slashers called Night Slashers X, which not only borrows enemies and levels from other beat-'em-ups, but also replaces Hong-Hua with "Yasmin," who is the really the Denjin Makai 2/Guardians incarnation of character Kurokishi (literal Japanese for "black knight"). It's much harder than its oringal game, but if there's anybody that can beat it, it's you.
It reminds me of final fight mixed with streets of rage with darkstalkers mixed And neither living dead with classic horror movie style and a little mixed with Castlevania like

I'm asking this is because on the second stage, Dracula's wagon is transparency which looks very normal, but I've been playing this game through the Mame and the wagon became tearing and not display correctly at all. It's more for when you play with 2 or 3 players. The one that gets the highest score in the bonus rounds gets the "WIN!".
