I just wanted to hop on and say that there really is a difference between “the other” decoupage glue and the Deco Art Napkin product. Far fewer wrinkles with the deco art product. It was absolutely astonishing. I couldn’t find it locally so I had to order it, and I’m so glad I did.
Deco art products are expensive in UK, like almost all products described as cheap in US, but no here. I use Polyvine heavy duty wood varnish on the top which is waterproof, uv proof and heat proof.
I made me one a while back with Lucy's pic on it. I painted the edges gold. Glad I used the right glue! Thanks Gf
Awww, that's really special. One day I'll do a pet video where we can decoupage our pets onto something but I'm trying to get an idea of what else we can decoupage over. :)
hugs GF!
Great vid. Also great to find videos with no background music. Thanks
Very helpful tips🥰👏Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I have been looking for that kind of top coat for a while ❤️😊
I have just started to decoupage so this is very helpful. Thanks 😃
You are so welcome!
I’m a new subscriber and so happy your channel popped up in my feed. This year I want to try making these,. I’ve been collecting napkins. ❤️🤗
Thank you for all of your tips. I am never able to get the wrinkles out. I can't wait to try the parchment paper and iron.
Hi thanks for all the great info and the coasters are really pretty. 🙂💙
Thank you! I've been wondering how to go this!! 💖🙌
I don’t see the name of the topcoat. What is it please
I am pretty new at crafting. I've started making some cement coasters and decoupaging podge and napkins on them. I guess great minds think a like. Cause when it came time to seal it. I also got the heat enamel spray.😂
I'm doing a test run on a few today. But I think it is going to do great.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you
Love your videos
When you use the mdf for the coasters do you apply a layer of decoupage over the napkin before adding the sealing spray? I just want to make sure I do it correctly..beautiful
Thanks for sharing this video! I made some coasters with decoupage technique. I sealed the surface with Mod Podge for 4-5 times. After one week, I used Dupli-Color Varnish and let the tiles to cure for a week. Then when I put a very hot mug on the tile, it didn't stick but there was a deep circle. Could you please tell me what the problem was?
So glad I founded your channel, thanks for all the tips. They are very nice. What kind of tiles did you use? Thank you for evetything
Hi I have just watched your video which is very helpful but needed to see which varnish you used and read all other reviews but you have still not given the name ,please could you give us the name so we can try and get it ,Thankyou
I noticed you switched recommended top coat sealant in your new video. Can you provide any reason for the change from the one you have recommended in this video? thanks
I would like to know this as well. I just used the top coat spray mentioned in THIS video, but I found my heated mug stuck to my coaster. Going to try another coating to see if it works better as the top coat mentioned in her new video is VERY expensive and out of stock. I hope we get a reply from patioelf
@@kathryn4310 I'm curious as to which decoupage glue you used, does it really make a difference?
Question - instead of applying one thick coat of decoupage glue over the chalk paint, could you do two coats? If so, how long should you let the first coat dry before apply the second? Thanks so much for the wonderful video - you explained the process so well!!
Hi I have tried so many top coats recommended in videos even yacht varnish, engine paint etc best one from the UK is WIlkos satin interior varnish.
Thank you looking for one in uk
Useful video but sadly cant buy that heat protector coating in the UK, anyone know an alternative?
I'm quite new to "decoupage" but I've been a gaming crafts hobbiest for quite some time. I've been watching a LOT of videos about decoupage and there seems to be a common thread of problems related to "heat sealing" this stuff. This video, and the ones that feature "ironing" have unknowlingly revealed why decoupage gets "tacky" when hot cups are put on it. It's because heat re-activates decoupage glue...it's the heat that turns it soft and tacky again. All of the videos I've watched talk about different types of sealers, such as acrylic, ceramic, spray on car sealer, etc. But I think the real problem might be the use of a heat-activated base coat. If you were to use a sealer as both the under and top coats, would this not solve the problem? Have you tried using sealers on the base and top coat, with the printed medium in-between?
Im late replying but I have used other methods. I watch here for her best methods and advice but I know what you mean about heat activated. Im 67 now and we did amatuer decoupage in young teens which was late 60s, early 70s. All I knew of then was using "varnish". Not knowing what it was but did know it was the kind needing turpentine to clean brushes. Im the type that when I wanted to make my own chalk paint I also looked up what chalk was! So we used the varnish both under and over the decoupage that literally was pics from magazines that could in todays methods have smeared but not with the varnish? Right now I use elmers cheap glue with water. I find it worked fine for my first project. I did buy the one not talked about but I think watering that one down or even adding a spot of glue may make it work better. I put napkins on a set of those stone coasters supposed to absorb water but they absorbed coffee stains. Used my homemade chalk paint I make with Behr sample paints and plaster patch powder. My glue and water, both under and over. let set and use clear wax on top. Works great. No issues. In this case I wonder at what tiles she used? The only thing good about things that dont work out I usually find whatever it is peels off easy includng paint not sticky or napkins.
Ive also seen people use an iron to stick the item they want to decoupage onto a dried acrylic top coat. Then top coat again. No wrinkles.
Do you have a link for the napkin you used for the last coasters you displayed? The ones that says "BORD DE MER" on the bottom.
Do you remember what size tiles you used? and where they ceramic or another material? I bought 4x4 glossy tiles, but I can't find the chalky paint for glass at any craft store and it is sold out on Amazon. I will need to switch tiles, it seems.
Cool products. What setting for the iron please?
What top cote can I use as I can’t get the one in the link as it’s out of stock
Baking paper for cooking would be the best way to explain it lol. This is awsome gonna try this bet I can do this wooo ooo. Question does this leave streaks after the glue that you use dry? If so how can you prevent that. Like to the glue well its not available.
Amei a sua idéia, parabéns!!
Can I do this process with vinyl decal?
hello, I am brand new to decoupage and just saw your video. I was told by the store sales manager that the glues were all the same- whether I use Mod Podge or the no-name, so I took the no-name (craftsmart). I hadn't heard of your brand, nor do we see it in our craft stores (I see it is available on amazon though). I used the same top coat as you did. While the cup did not stick to the coaster, it did leave grooves. If I was to order your decoupage glue and put a coat or two on top of the top coat and put another top coat on, would that stop the hot cup from leaving grooves? It is too late to start completely new. Thank you.
Hermoso. Traducir al español por favor🙏
Thankful for the video! Could you tell me after spraying the sealer, how long until cured? I keep hearing 7 days, then 21 days. How many days do you wait? Thank you.
I watched the video but there is no link to say what top coat did you use how do I find it?
Thanks for the info on the topcoat. Love the lighthouse napkin but I cannot find it anywhere.
sorry about that, I find these napkins in little odd stores I visit in my travels. Sometimes you can find them on Ebay if not Amazon. :)
What kind of spray do you use as your top coat
Thank you
Can you PLEASE tell us I show us the top coating you use?
I’m wasting so much time trying to figure it out. I love you work a d hoping will be as good as you. I better hurry I’m 66 lol.
can wooden coasters be used ?
When do you put down the parchment paper? How long in the oven at what temperature?
I didn't hear you say what sealing top coat you used & didn't see any links to push so now I don't know what you used.
if you click on the word "more" in the description, there is a link to the product that says "Best heat proof Top coat" The company I work for does not allow me to use other companies products in my videos. :) sorry about that.
What kind of tiles did you use?
How many coats of the Duplicolor top coat please? I followed the directions on the can and the final coat turned my project yellow. After curing, I found the hot coffee cup stuck to the coaster if left for 3-5 mins.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been wondering what topcoat to use for a long time. I have tried others, but they all seem to stick. I will try this with my Christmas coasters that I'm planning to make - using Christmas napkins of course.
Hi Wendy, can you please share with me what the top coat you are using. I have struggled with this girl some time. Thanks in advance- thanks in advance and be safe.
@@margiedurham650 I've tried mod podge, polycrylic, triple thick, some brand of clear spray sealer, spar varnish, and now the engine enamel. I haven't been able to find anything that a hot cup won't stick to. I really wanted to use Christmas napkins to make coasters for family gifts, but I just can't find the right topcoat, so I put it on the back burner! Sorry I can't help you, except to tell you what didn't work for me.
@@wendypierre7987, o wow Wendy I have spent so so wanting to do coasters as well. I just bought the engine enamel by Dupli-Color because I thought the lady I watch recommended, wh n I read your post you had tried this and don’t work my heart sank. If I find anything I will be happy to text you - still time to do before Christmas.
Thank you for replying 😊
@@margiedurham650 thank you and good luck with it. I would be interested to hear how it works for you.
I love your video. Where do I get the napkins you used?
Will the top coat work on alcohol ink coasters?
You do not show the top coat spray. What we should use for non stick Coa?
Hi, watched your video with interest, can I ask, do you add a little water to your glue please?
Beautiful coasters. Where did you get the stone coasters? Thx.
Please let me know the glue you used and top spray
Will this work using fabric as well?
Beautiful napkins and perfect for those tiles. I made coasters for a craft show last year and used the same spray topcoat you’re recommending, it really works good with hot and cold items. Down here in Louisiana we still haven’t seen any Fall weather yet.. cool at night but still very hot 🥵 during the day. 🤞that it’s on the way. Until next time “coffee and Patti “. Enjoy your beautiful weather and weekend.
I love hearing from you Sandra! I did NOT know you lived in Louisiana. I'm hoping you fared well during that last storm? I am not a fan of the heat at all, so I'm happy with the cooler temps although it got up into the 70s today, even that felt a little too warm for me. It was beautiful but I'm ready for the chilly sweater weather. I want to light the fire place too. ;) See you next week!
Patti
Which top coat did she recommend? I couldn’t find it in the links.
thank-you in advance!
Very good video but could not find the link to your top coat could you let me know what it is
What topcoat did she use?
What is the proper top coat. Thank you
How many top coats of the glue did you use to finish off the coaster? How much time in between additional topcoat layers? Is there a long time to let these cure (30 days) or so before I can use them? Sure would appreciate your answers to these questions. Thank you for a great video!
Hello, Patti! Really appreciate this video. I’ve hesitated to start do coasters because of all of the conflicting information out there. I’ve been told that the best sealer to use is Polyvine (the one with the 3 shells on the front). Everyone says it’s the absolute best. They say if you just cannot find this that the only other thing that works, but not quite as well, as high heat clear engine enamel. I’m so confused! I really wish I’d seen your video before I bought so many different formulations of the other brand. If I thin it out, do you think it will be okay?
Hi I agree Polyvine with the shells is the one I use and it works perfectly. I use a sealer like matte medium first to seal the napkin in place first then let it dry completely then I use the polyvine. I tested it with coffee cups and it works. Not sure how high the heat resistance is but it is good enough for coffee cups.
How long does it take for a complete drying time to use a hit cup of coffee? Also, are the ebook the same videos you have on RUclips? I love your work.
Do i need to paint a white ceramic tile before applying glue
What is the name of the product used for the sealant
What is the name of the heatproof sealant used for these coasters? Ty
Has anyone tried this topcoat? I just sprayed a coaster with Duplicolor acrylic engine enamel which is I believe very similar to this posters top coat. Waited two days but hot mugs still stuck. Is it that she didn't heat cup in microwave? Bottom of her mug is very small? Cure time?
UPDATE 1/18/21: waited several weeks for the engine spray to cure. Worked like a charm. You won't have high gloss finish but hot mugs (ones that are microwaved) will not stick. It was the curing time that worked I think.
How many weeks did it cure? I tried 3 weeks and a mug still stuck and left a ring..
@@lisa_marie_1982 it was at least three weeks (maybe more). However, my sister-un-law who Igave them to said they do leave a ring (you have to look for it though). . I was so disappointed. I've given up coaster making because of this. Good luck, hope you figure it out.
love these, beautiful! Where is your link for the napkins you used?
In the description- there are links for napkins but I could not find those exact napkins. I have napkins from decades ago! ;) Thank you Nee!
Patti
Hello :) This video is wonderful and very helpful! I was curious to know if this process would work with printed pictures on plain printer paper, cardstock or even a photograph? Thank you :)
After applying decoupage, I immediately put on the napkin, I didn’t wait for first coat of decoupage to dry. Not sure how these will turn out, I’m waiting for the glue to dry. I’ll update when finished
Here in Australia we call it 'Baking Paper', hope this helps some
I am not seeing where there is a link below to get last spray name for this
What top coat did you use
Love this video. Mine have been bubbling but this is super helpful. I have also subscribed and love your intro video :) x
can you sell items you make with paper napkins?
We need a coaster that will absorb sweaty drinks. Will this one do the trick?
Hello, I tried your technique on slate but it didn't work. I applied black chalky paint, then the decoart matte glue , then the napkin. I also ironed the napkin and everything looked good until I put on the deco art matte glue for the second coat. Alot of the black beneath came through and also bubbly. Is it because the black slate will not work with this technique?
I do not find the DecoArt Americana Chalky Finish that says it's for glass. I have the one you are using in video, will that work for shiny tiles? Thx in advance
Same here.
Seems she doesn’t reply to any of the questions.
I had the same problem I couldn’t find the TECO Art americana Chalky finish.
What’s the good of any of her videos? If we can’t find the product she insists we use?
Where is the link that tells you the brand of the sealer used? Can't find it! Please respond, I'm making Christmas gifts! Thank you!
I love that napkin but I could not find it by your link.
May I use DecoArt Americana DuraClear Matte varnish instead of the Dupli-Color clearcoat Multi purpose coating? I have severe emphysema and the fumes from the Dupli-coat made it hard for me to breathe for a few hours.
do not use anything that sprays on mari
What do you use for the top coat? I can't find it in your descriptions
Thank you, Lucille
I can't find it either. It would be nice if you just mentioned the name and showed it in your video. Thank you.
Nice .Where is your link i like to download
I just made a bunch of tiles using this iron method and I love it. I found a picture online that I printed onto normal photo copy paper. Can it be decoupaged onto the ceramic tile, and made the exact same way as with these napkins? And can it also be finished with the same heat resistant product to be used for hot drinks?
the short answer is yes. Hopefully you have a laser printer b/c you may have found that the ink jets prints will run. And yes you can follow all the same steps to get the heat proof coasters.
@@patioelf What was the last sealant for the heat proof coasters???
I was interested in your sealer but I don’t see in the description that it is heat resistant.
Are you able to use a crackle medium with these products?
Will this help for diamond painting coasters?
I cannot find the Decoart Deco-page Matte anywhere in craft stores near me. Is there another brand that you would recommend? Michaels can mail me ArtMinds Matte Decoupage as their stores within 100 miles of me are out of stock. Do you recommend me using that brand?
Thank you for sharing these coaster ideas, but where can i get the napkins called Bord De Mer with the lighthouse?
Hi there, I'm in the uk...can you recommend a decoupage glue equivalent? Also, cant get the top coat here either ....help. loved the video btw
Available on Amazon. check her links at the top of the comments.
@@pegcordova7315 I'm in uk. Just wanted an equivalent brand if anyone knows of any? The brand she uses is always unavailable
I know this is an old video, but I'm hoping someone can help me. When you use the engine spray that you mentioned at the end, do you bake your tiles to cure it? Or do you let it sit for a specified amount of time to air dry? I tried air drying it for 3 weeks and unfortunately a hot mug still stuck and left a ring.
She didn’t say but I don’t see her really answering any questions. Not sure she can’t tell the name without using links unless opening the link givers her a commission
Can't find the name or link to the heat resistant top coat
Where do you purchase DecoArt Matte
Does your method of using parchment paper only work on glass tiles? Will it work on other surfaces?
Yes
Love them, how many coats of the heat sealer and is there a curing time.
Thanks Jan
Hi Jan...I used one coat, and I did make sure to give them about 3 days to fully cure near a heat vent (in an unused room) :)
Thank you I will do that, so far they look great can’t wait to see and use them. Love your’e videos.

Hi Marjorie... the coasters I used have been on hand for a long time so I'm not sure where I got them but I know that Home Depot, and Floor and Decor have similar ones. ;)

@@patioelf thank you so much for responding
Margie, yeah, my hubby worked HD for years. I got all my tiles for coasters there.
Why won’t you post the name of the sealer?????

But you can find similar ones from the links provided in the description
Good morning! How many coats of the spray top coat are necessary to give a good seal to the coasters? Thanks in advance for your advice 🙏🥰❤️
I only used one coat for the coasters. Cheers Amapro. ;)

What is the purpose of the chalk paint is it just to make the surface smoother and I bought some regular flat smooth tiles from Home Depot should I still put chalk paint on it or just put my decoupage on it ?
I think it's to actually make the surface rougher, chalk paint is not the smoothest
Great info. Love these! TFS

Dollar Tree had the peacock napkins several years ago. I don't know about the other ones she used.

She didn’t mention other than time @ temp she baked the tiles if she allowed the decoupage to dry before baking, I would assume so.
