It is a kick in the pants to the US Ai companies to innovate their methods and not just use a more and more and more expensive sledgehammer in order to scale. If you need a nuclear reactor to train and host the Ai, then you need to start looking at how you build the Ai and are their ways to be more efficient, more cost effective and more time effective in how you build the product. America since the beginning have been resource pigs. Everything we do ends up being more resource intensive...money, time, equipment, resources, man-power than any other nation on earth.......because we had all that and there was little outside competition. Now we have global competition for just about everything but we still try to use the most resource intensive methods while everyone else without the resources tries to innovate the methodology and bring theirs to market more cheaply. Take cars for example (completely hypothetical for explanation purposes only): United States: In the US if we want to increase auto production, we just rinse and repeat on a larger scale by building an entirely new manufacturing facility, doubling our resource requirements, cost and personnel so that we can double our production. The sledgehammer approach. Japan: In Japan, they want to double their car production, they look at their current facility and say.....Let's not build an entire new facility. Let's put in robots that can build twice the speed as our current production line. Not only will we double our auto production but it can do it more efficiently, at a reduced cost and a more consistent and higher quality product. The innovative approach

That being said , im running deepseek R1 and Kimi K1.5 using 10 nm chips and efficient GPU ( using chinese method) make it comparable to a M1 -3 chip , however the power required is definitely more. on the intel chip. That being said the road to true AGI is no longer limited by massive capital innvestment in datacenter with 3 nm chips but a datacenter with good old intel 10 nm chips can handle the load. that means , no more heavy capital expenditure barrier for opensource development , decentralize AI with opensource will win the race to true AGI. ben goertzel vision was for 2028 and you know what! he might be right.

Everyone in the industry should know that OAI has no moat and is innevitably going to lose money. The hardware providers and the CSPs are fine, they are all building modular hardware and modular platforms that can plug in any API or model. But OpenAI has built their foundation on doing R&D which innevitably is a science that publishes their results in a way for everyone else to duplicate. Meta is OSS, DeepSeek is OSS, OAI is closed and the only advantage they have is a headstart, more funding, and more talented researchers. They used to have a hiring advantage, but now they are losing all of that while the technologies catch up. And it's super easy for the SW to catch up if you have a GPU cluster. Anyone who is surprised by this is not an expert and has not been paying attention.
They're losing talent as they go more and more towards the commercial route. The best talent want to work for the good of humanity, not for Sam Altman's wallet.
The future is going to be in finely tuned small language models. We will improve through efficiency and targeted training methods. We’ve reached the limit of throwing more data at the problem. Now we need to move to “better and cleaner” data.
I also believe that that's the a more promising approach. Highly specialized AI for certain tasks with less but high quality data. It's probably too complicated to have an AI that is supreme in every field.
The idea that LLM are not really useful and hallucinate is a gross exaggeration. Millions of people use Ai everyday . This guy lives in an academic bubble.
None of the Mag7 said they'll cancel infrastructure projects. Inference is still expensive and they can do R&D. You still need electricity to run open source models too

American companies can always offer those deepseek developers a good salary to bring them here. This is probably much cheaper and popular than imposing a tech ban, or arm race, or tariffs. Most (not all) of the elite researchers still admire the US research environment, at least for now.
Not really. Liang (Deepseek's founder) has repeatedly pointed out that it's impossible to replicate Deepseek's success in the extremely walled-off US corporate environment. His team only succeeded because of China's open-source approach to AI research. I think what most people fail to understand is that Deepseek effectively has 10 times the workforce any US company has because they can tap into the entire Chinese academic, corporate, and even hobby research "brain bank" for free. They only have to share their findings back into that brain bank. This is something that US corporate developers can't do by default, so hiring Deepseek developers will be completely pointless for them.
China teaches your open ai not to exploit your consumers by giving a free tag on their deepseek. How nuch cost do the open ai dev use ,only they know? Maybe a 1/4 of the cost?

Now OpenAI will face very hard time to get more investments and also their system takes a lot of resources, and more people will move to Deepseek, so basically OpenAI is going to burning a lot of money.
I believe Deepseek shared their old model, they have more advanced model for sure. The current shared open source model is just a distraction.
While China focus on innovation, we focused on perfecting gambling apps and what’s the best lines for the Super Bowl.
America what is not over value?
healthcare, housings, insurance, the stock market. anything that the magic wand of capital market touches is overvalued.
I agree with the professor that sooner or later AI models will become commodity-like products of which the lowest cost one wins.
LLMs have been around since the 1950s...
The Chinese asked ChatGPT "How to make AI for $6M" and it told them.

You are right ! the race is not about better LLM's , it's about the race to achieve true AGI. Not some AGI gimmick using LLM (openai). That being said , im running deepseek R1 and Kimi K1.5 using 10 nm chips and efficient GPU ( using chinese method) make it comparable to a M1 -3 chip , however the power required is definitely more. on the intel chip. That being said the road to true AGI is no longer limited by massive capital innvestment in datacenter with 3 nm chips but a datacenter with good old intel 10 nm chips can handle the load. that means , no more heavy capital expenditure barrier for opensource development , decentralize AI with opensource will win the race to true AGI. ben goertzel vision was for 2028 and you know what! he might be right.
probably it repeating intel windows duopoly, windows make people buy new computer with newer processor. not thinking about efficiency. openai make people buy Nvidia.
Depends on your finances . 1000$ in XAI910K is 4000 XAI910K if it goes to 50% of ath in 2024 thats a 600% gain. If it goes equal to ath . Its a 1200% gain.

I was advised to diversify my portfolio among several assets such as stocks and bonds since this can protect my portfolio for retirement. I'm seeking to invest $250K across markets but don't know where to start.
The safest approach I feel to tackle it is to diversify investments. By spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown.

Experts are right, technological innovation, so that more people cheaper and more convenient to use the service, which is a good thing for the whole world. Instead of engaging in small courtyards and high walls, engaging in chip technology monopoly, and engaging in price monopoly.
That guy was completely on point. LLM's are not the panacea wall street thinks they are.
Considering the blessings that came out of the USA in terms of computer science its wild that they are now laughed and opposed by the whole world. Looks like the end of an era
deepseek open our eyes that what we had paid so far for an AI tool service is not normal.
America does not have "unlimited resources" to be an AI Leader: we underfund EDUCATION!
Great interview this guy makes some really good points. I really agree with everything he says.
Deepseek shook the silicon valley's world,
So are we going to need all that electricity or not?
Right. Do they still want Canada 😂 (hydroelectric power), Google CEO spilled the tea on that one.
None of the Mag7 said they'll cancel infrastructure projects. Inference is still expensive and they can do R&D. You still need electricity to run open source models too
no. deepseek need 95% less processing power = less energy needed.
I think we still need since electric fundamental infrastructure renew need decades and next generation still need lots of electricity.
it'd be great if we could build SMRs to rapidly phase out coal and natural gas to actually solve the climate crisis instead of these volatile AI hype bubbles
This is what Elon Musk was talking about. OpenAI became closed and now they are exposed. OpenAI went beyond what they were supposed to do and Elon was mad about this because he invested in at the beginning.

You don’t spend wisely on your citizens and public spending, but always spend the resources in spreading untruth or propaganda or to give it to the top 1% of the wealthiest. There is no way a country will do well with such scenario because human resources ( everyone)are the most precious in nation building. You can exploit in the past because most countries are still in early stage of economic development or others become your little brothers. Now the scenario is vastly different.

It didn't "blow up their business model". It's a relatively new company and their plan is to achieve AGI, not just offer a SAAS membership. If anything this will push investors and the US government to put more money into AI infrastructure.
Go read the headlines today. Trump just halted all Federal grants and loans. There is no more US funding. Trump will also tariff TSMC in Taiwan.

American companies can always offer those deepseek developers a good salary to bring them here. This is probably much cheaper and popular than imposing a tech ban, or arm race, or tariffs. Most (not all) of the elite researchers still admire the US research environment, at least for now.
What a good salary of 300K to help the oligarchs reap hundreds billions. No way
I see. So it is indeed coming from the advantages of open source. Thanks

To a man with a hammer, every problem is a nail. For a country with vast resources, all innovation is prohibitively expensive.
Altman AI got greedy and now they are facing the music..
Gary Marcus: AI has hit the wall!!!
The wall:
China teaches your open ai not to exploit your consumers by giving a free tag on their deepseek. How nuch cost do the open ai dev use ,only they know? Maybe a 1/4 of the cost?
People who declared Open Ai the winner of the AI race has no clue what they were talking about. This was just the beginning of the AI race. Open ai went around acting like they were the solidified winner just to be crushed by another model made with a tiny fraction of the money invested. As this individual said, LLMs arent what will lead AI in the future it will be general artificial intelligence not generative.
yes, American AI tech is overvalued, but come on now, how sure are we of that $6m from Deepseek either.
Is out there for you to try.....
It open source, many expert have tried it and it worked. This is not Chinese propaganda. It is a result of hard and diligent people to come out of a better solution. Not everything about politics.
If you checked the r1 paper, you would find they made tons of innovation for every part of the model. It's very reasonable from my point of the view the training cost $6m, which doesn't include salary, benefits, infrastructure cost, etc.
human knowledge belong to humankind. this is only expressed by open source hardware/software, time for mag 7 to learn from their greed
