    Thank you for your response, it is difficult to explain in the these comments but i will try:-
    CD would be 1/3 of AD but we dont know AD we know AC and the ratio tells us that AC is twice CD (2:1) so if we know AC = 2x + 4Y then CD = x+2y
    So the whole of AD is AC+CD = 3x + 6y

    If you are talking about the question that starts around 5m20s in (3rd one) then it is because they are not parts of the same line they are separate lines. So the whole of ZY is in the ratio of 3:2 with WX so ZY is infact 1.5 times WX. Often these vector questions with ratios are talking about parts of the same line where you would add the 3 and 2 to make 5 but because they are separate lines you don't do that for this question.

    • @RawMaths
      @RawMaths  9 лет назад +9

      Mina s Thanks for you comment, this is a common question and I have answered it before, this is my response from before
      it is difficult to explain in the these comments but i will try:-
      CD would be 1/3 of AD but we dont know AD we know AC and the ratio tells us that AC is twice CD (2:1) so if we know AC = 2x + 4Y then CD = x+2y
      So the whole of AD is AC+CD = 3x + 6y

      RawMaths Thank you :)

    • @thenight8798
      @thenight8798 6 лет назад

      CD is 1/3 of AD so 1/3(3x+6y)=x+2y . so basically ac is just double cd so u half ac.

    • @haroonsiddiqui8901
      @haroonsiddiqui8901 6 лет назад

      correct

    • @rajendramisir3530
      @rajendramisir3530 6 лет назад

      +The Night Regarding AC:CD is 2:1. AC=2/3(AD) which is represented by vector AC=2x+4y. It follows that CD=1/3(AD) which is represented by vector CD=1/2 of vector AC=1/2(2x+4y)=x+2y. Note: (1/3=1/2(2/3)).
      Another way to reason this ratio through is: 2/3 of AD represents 2x+4y. It follows that 1/3 of AD represents x+2y. Which means 3/3 or AD represents 3x+6y. So 3/3(AD) equals 2/3(AD)+1/3(AD) which represents 3x+6y= (2x+4y) + (x+2y) . Note: You knew vector AC and not vector AD (part of a whole). So, this sort of reasoning is needed in this case to calculate vector AD.

      Edward Walters omg! The exam was extremely hard! The answers were too wordy for proofs and too long! Not a fair exam at all. I was extremely disappointed! I have been practicing past papers and getting 90 plus raw score. I don't think I will manage to get even 70 for this exam. How was yours?

      icecubeinferno yes but that question was very easy. I skipped it because I looked at the question in the last 2 minutes and there was not enough time to write. The answers were too long! 1 hour 45 minutes was not enough for this hard exam

    • @dreamer_4937
      @dreamer_4937 9 лет назад +1

      Hitanshu Arora It was going fine until i hit Hannah's fucking sweets! :D then stress kicked in... by using an unofficial markscheme online where somebody wrote all the answers i worked out i probably got 77/8%. And I, too, hv been getting 92% and that on my past papers, including timed ones (i have done about 25-30 papers). So need to beast this calculator on Monday to get A*! They'd better lower the boundaries, or as my friend put it 'Rains of Castamere' will be playing in their marking halls... -_-

    • @RawMaths
      @RawMaths  9 лет назад +6

      Asam Sajid -s is like -1s and 3/2s = 1.5s so -1 + 1.5 = 0.5 so 0.5s or 1/2s

    • @rishyadav15

    For the third question 'On a trapezium', why is vector ZY 3/2s and not 3/5s as the total of the ratio (3:2) is 5, so shouldn't 3 be written out of the total sum of the ratio??

    • @RawMaths
      @RawMaths  9 лет назад +1

      Amber Karim the ratio is not for one length but for the two separate lengths WX and ZY (you add the ratio when you are trying to split one thing into a ratio, but this one is different). This is more like a question such as the ratio of Red:Blue is 3:2 if you have 2 Blue you must have 3 Red so if Blue is s then Red would be 1.5s

    For the question at 6 minutes - how did you get 3/2?? :)

    • @AIlezAlIezAIIez
      @AIlezAlIezAIIez 8 лет назад

      +Effie28 Because the question states the ZY : XY is in the ratio of 3:2 meaning ZY is 3 and XY is 2 - And to get from 2 to 3 you must multiple 2 by 1.5 or (3/2). WX is = to vector S and WX is 1.5 times shorter than ZY (As ZY is in the ratio of 3:2 to XY) so to get S to 3/2 you must multiple S by 3/2 to get '3/2S'

    • @effie2857
