Did you know, I recently wrote the most comprehensive book ever written about keeping, feeding and breeding Cherry Shrimp. Check it out here neocaridina-shrimp-handbook.com
I'm an experienced fishkeeper but a relative novice at keeping shrimp. After my Betta died I decided to use the heavily planted tank to have a go at cherry shrimp. I can't believe how easy they are to look after. I started with ten but lost a few of them within days. The remaining ones survived and now I have a tank with more shrimp than I am able to count! I use rain water with a mineral supplement and do regular small water changes because I feed them heavily on a variety of frozen foods and dried, such as algae tabs, tubifex and granulated shrimp food.
Would you ever do a guide like this, but for caridina shrimp? I feel like there isn’t enough resources out there for it but definitely would be nice to see !
I am quite new to this shrimp keeping (and technically still new to fish too; but doing better) How do you "seasoned" your no-low shrimp tech tank? And is it better to start with cheaper ones first or get a good one directly? The last time my tank had biofilm, it was a disaster - it's the oily film thing and a nightmare to clean up. Later I setup a new tank got plants from another seller but I suspect something is wrong with the plants cuz all the shrimp (new batch) died and the one in my betta tank looks really suspicious (it's slimy and staining the water in a bad way, a bit of fishy odor too)
Your book hasn't been released in Australia yet on Amazon? I'm reluctant to pre-order without some indication of when it will release. I know I could get the ebook version, but I'd really love a physical copy.
Keeping CS for last 4-5 months....small 3-gallon bowl...bare bottom....heavily planted with all sorts of mosses....no water changes...just top-up....regularly seeing baby shrimps scooting around....Greetings from India....
I wish the frequent water change people and the infrequent/no water change people could have a football match or something to decide what advice is definitive. Both sides are super adamant, it is wild. Your advice about copper needs to be shouted from the rooftops. I get a bit sick of explaining to people how *some* copper is absolutely essential for shrimp health but lots of copper is bad for them.
I keep Discus, and I have kept cherry shrimp successfully in 28.5°C (83.3°F) (minus the shrimp the Discus ate every day. Full disclosure they were my cull shrimp) I redid the tank and when the hardscape and plants provide enough cover again. I will add cull shrimp back in. I like to give them a fair chance in my attempt to create a 600L ecosystem
My advice Make a heavy planted tank first and wait for over a month before adding any inhabitants. Make water changes only if absolutely necessary (algae issues)
You have to be wary of not doing water changes because, all of a sudden when you’ve got a great colony, the KH will crash and you’ll have no shimp left!
Depends on the size of the tank, how seasoned it is, what else is in the tank. 10 neos in a seasoned tank possibly don't need any added food at all assuming there is algae and bacteria for them to graze on but again, it depends on a lot of factors. If there is nothing else in the tank, one small pellet every few days is usually ok. 10 shrimp do not eat much at all.

Caridina shrimp aren’t really my specialty, but maybe in the future 🤔
4:52 Richard, what is this puffy looking fish by this gorgeous golden shrimp? Another great video, ta!
He’s a Dwarf Puffer 😍
@FishKeepingAnswers I thought they eat shrimp? Another myth or partial myth (only if they're really hungry?
I learned a lot from your book. Many thanks! The shrimp also liked the results. They are reproducing and enjoying the Java fern!

How much should i feed 10 neos? 1pellet a day?
