Hey Dressage Superstar, I am going to answer the question - How do I get my horse on the bit in canter? When I was learning how to get my horse on the bit, I could do it in trot, and in canter my horse would poke his nose out and it really upset me and perplexed me... the main reason I think this is, because in trot you are a little more steady in the hands, and more confident. In the canter you might be a little more unsteady and your hands not quite as still! Your hands have to be still in order for the horse to be still and in the contact.

I love to see that you always have your helmet on. Security is so important. Wonderful explanation!
This was honestly so helpful to me! Im a very soft rider and it's taken me such a long time to realise the difference between holding your horses head down and keeping a steady contact!
I Never wanted to have heavy hands so never wanted to do what I though would keep the contact!
Thankyou for this explanation, helped with schooling my horse so much!
Wonderful! So happy this was able to help you Kelsey! xx
I watched an old video of yours from 2013 about how to get the right lead when cantering. I haven’t cantered yet but your explanation in that video was excellent.
Thanks Deborah!! xx
This helped me a lot in my riding! I love the champagne glass or water glass analogy. Do you think you could do another video like this one on helping riders with their horse that gets stiff in the canter? I need help getting my OTTB more supple and through onto the bit in the canter but he gets very stiff. Thank you!!

Thanks for sharing! I have a green 10 year old welsh pony who I adopted about 3 years ago. Her previous owner deemed her “unable to canter”, it took about a year to finally be able to canter (more like gallop) in a circle, but we still have trouble with it. I know every time I’d ask for a canter I’d go into survival mode because she could only gallop due to her lack of muscle and balance. I’m finally ready to come out of survival mode and start perfecting the canter. Thank you for this video! I will be trying this.
Good luck, Tayler! You can do it! xx
Gorgeous horse.
This is exactly what I'm working on right now! I have a new horse I'm trying to understand. And improve of course as a rider And the way you put it helped me know what I need to look for. Thanks!
Wonderful to hear Sara :)

Any tips or suggestions to keep your hands nice and steady while riding a VERY bouncy mare? Everyone I know doesn't think she's bouncy UNTIL I get them to try her. No one except my one 13 year old dressage rider neighbour, has managed to sit her trot! She really IS that bouncy and I find that my arms and hands move a lot even when I think they aren't. It's been struggle for years! I've also been working on getting her to bend and develop her neck properly (she has the muscle and bend close to her head but not closer to her shoulders. So we are both a work in progress. Any, even the littlest tip, would be helpful! Thanks and love your channel!

I should have seen this earlier
Thanks Tash for your videos. I notice you talk a lot about people riding the canter too far forward or leaning back or bouncing but I tend to lean into the circle as my horse falls in to the right.I try to sit straight but do you have any tips how I can stop us both falling inward?
Hi Rhonda! thanks for the message, we have videos on the horse falling in which may help you; ruclips.net/video/_pMYaTfFUtM/видео.html let me know if this helps, if not we will have a think about doing a video on this in the future! xx
I always hear to use inside leg and outside leg to help your horse go round and on the bit, but when I did that on my mare she just went faster? The only time she collects is when I give her loose rein and she takes it and goes on the bit, but when I have normal rein length she stiffins up and does not what to go on the vertical. Does someone know why this is? And when I mean loose rein I don't mean no contact, I still can have contact but she is the only horse that puts her head that low in order to go on the bit.
My instructer tells me to squeeze in with my legs but then my legs tense up and get tired really fast
Where’s Lordy?!
