So glad I found your channel. I’ve been modeling for five years now but have truly always wanted to really get into the fashion styling part of it so I’m starting my own test shoots using my connections with photographers!
I have a couple questions that I’d love to ask you,
What degrees do you think best cater to being a fashion stylist? And also I’d love to see a video on how you got started and what really put you on the map as a stylist!
Hi Mavaney!! Welcome to my channel, girl! You're totally doing the right thing by donning test shoots with the photographers you previously worked with--that's exactly what you're supposed to be doing! I would also HIGHLY recommend asking around for Stylists in your area that you can assist on professional shoots! To answer your question: Look for Bachelor's or Master's degree programs in Fashion Styling--that would be ideal, but it's not a common option yet. If you can't find a program in Fashion Styling, the next best thing would be Fashion Merchandising (my degree is Fashion Merchandising & Design). You can also look for Certificate or Associate's degree programs that allow you to take very specific Fashion courses. All in all, you wan to make sure that the program provides you with a balance of Fashion business, Visual Merchandising, and Apparel Design/Construction. (I always say that experience is the best education, when it comes to Styling, but a degree gives you a concrete, wholistic understanding of the industry at-large). And ok! I will consider making a video about that!!

Hi Ayushii!! Thanks for asking! To make sure that your work is as professional as possible I do not suggest modeling in your own shoots. It's best to use an up and coming/professional model so that you can get a realistic experience of styling for a magazine, ad campaign, TV, etc. If you're want to build a modeling portfolio as well, I would make two separate portfolios: one for modeling (where another Stylist styles you) and one for your styling work (where you style the model). :D

Yes, it is ok to put the pics of a job you assisted on in your portfolio as long as you credit the Key Stylist and make it clear that you were the Assistant to the Key Stylist.
