I think it works in Kindergarten Cop because the opening few minutes was like the typical Arnold movie audience were used to seeing him in at the time.
In case of Kindergarten Cop, I imagine that's the point of it, showing Arnold as this tough, dark, badass cop so when he suddenly has to become a teacher for these little kids it amplifies the craziness of it.
The nice thing about Kindergarten Cop is that it shows you the kind of world that Arnold Schwartzaneggar's character is coming from before posing as a kindergarten teacher to catch the villain. It, also, shows how he initially feels more comfortable chasing after bad guys than looking after 5- & 6-yr olds.
I would guess Kindergarten Cop started the way it did to cash in on Terminator's success. He looks basically the same as he did in that film. The contrast of the opening to the rest of the movie also helps show how ridiculous his situation is. He's used to being harsh, only to now have to use kid gloves as he deals with literal kids, which adds to the comedy aspect of the overall film.
One of my friends asked me if I'd seen "Beavis and Butthead Do America" back in the day. All he said was :"your car's in it."The next day, drove my 1976 Ford Gran Torino (yes, THAT one) to the theater. The opening homage to 70's cinema and pop culture was badass...until the movie started. And yes I'd STILL watch 90 minutes of that.
I'd say the opening of Kindergarten Cop, and by extention, the first act, bookends well to the film's third act. The movie is ultimately a realistic crime drama with a much lighter second act.
Kindergarten Cop and Con Air are both showing that the main character is a big time badass. Arnold shows you and Cage is part of a group known for never leaving any behind and handling the toughest situations. The opening scene just sets the expectations.
I've seen lists like this before and they always forget the one I immediately think of. INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM. It goes from a singing & dancing musical introduction into an adventure movie.
Lmfaooo, I legit IMMEDIATELY thought of Home Alone 3 when I started watching this list 🤣 I remember when I first saw it as a kid, I basically thought “Oh cool! It’s one of those adulty spy thrillers 👀”. Edit: also excuse me, but the RC Car wasn’t originally intended for Alex. He got it by chance as payment, because his ill-tempered elderly neighbor got her bags mixed up at the airport and she wanted to get rid of it. “I left my bread in San Francisco” is still one of my favorite terrible film-quotes ever 🤣
Came for this. Yes got the plot messed up. Alex's neighbor was bringing back bread from her trip and had an identical shopping bag to the one the crooks were using. She didn't want the car so she gave it to Alex for shoveling her driveway.
Hi, defender of nic cage here 👋. So army ranger influence is to say the line "never leave a man behind" which is why Poe doesn't take the 1st "off the plane" because they wouldn't allow his friend off. He repeats the idea to John Cusake when the point guns at each other. Thank for reading.
Paramount's entire live action G. I. Joe franchise is similar to Sony's so called 'Spiderverse' branch- showing absolute Zero Respect to the source material, and so below par that its last offering, G. I. Joe Origins Snake-Eyes took a leaf from Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings- and bombed so hard that HBO was already screening it before the year it was released ended.
Swordfish opens with a deep analysis of the failures of modern society and capitalism by Travolta..... and then unfortunatly the rest of the movie happens

Yup. The juxtaposition provided excellent character background.
In Army of the Dead the prologue makes it look like it's gonna be a gritty horror but then it ends up being a more lighthearted heist movie

The opening of The Exorcist is perfect
I feel like the dybbuk scene in a Serious Man is a prologue telling us he's cursed and is actually very tonally consistent with the rest of the movie
Wait.... Scarlett Johansson was in Home Alone 3😂?
Yes !
Yes and when Alex screams after fining the chicken pox, she shouts to the mom "Mom, Alex slammed the toilet seat on his thing again.."
She was a child

no From dusk til dawn??
It's not really the opening scene, more the first act

This list is missing “Poetic Justice”

10 Ending Movie Scenes NOTHING Like The Rest Of The Film
The beginning of Kindergarten Cop is in the title: COP
I've seen lists like this before and they always forget the one I immediately think of. INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM. It goes from a singing & dancing musical introduction into an adventure movie.
Disney's Blank Check should have been added, the opening has a dark tone then cuts to light hearted comedy

Props for including K2 on this list!
My Spy: guy blows away an army of bad guys, then spends the rest of the film being bested in battles of wits to a small bratty little girl.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie is incredible

I am going to take a wild guess and say Ghost Ship is somewhere on the top of this list.
Ok, I was wrong.
Love how you showed the hidden picture at 6:54
Reverse of this is with it being one of the greatest closing scene or any scene of any movie is the one jet li

You guys entirely left out that Cut You Up With a Linoleum Knife was performed by Mastodon
04:13; that boy is in "Man of Steel".
"Lemony Snicket's a series of unfortunate events" (2004)?

I think the Home Alone 3 one works, it’s a terrorist thriller hijacked by a Home Alone movie.
Surely “The 5th Wave” should be in this?!
Starts off great, enticing you in, and then moving into a boring story that just falls apart.
Meatwad is a meatball. The snack in the metal band was a gumdrop.
ATHF was an amazing movie
Wow why the hate for kindergarten cop. It’s a classic!!!! I think you missed the whole point!!!!
Shutup, There's nothing silly or ridiculous about kindergarten cop.
Swordfish opens with a deep analysis of the failures of modern society and capitalism by Travolta..... and then unfortunatly the rest of the movie happens
