  • In this video we are talking about wifi range extenders for RV's and campers, and what you might want to consider when looking around.
    Overall, I'm in love with the Netgear EX6100V2 range extender, simple to install, great range, and at around $60 it won't break the bank!
    The outdoor extenders require some form of a penetration point on a camper, cost more, and don't work as well IMO.
    (Unless you buy the Redport Optimizer/Halo $400 version, which works very well, just tought to setup.)
    The WifiCampPro2 appears to be a knock off the Redport and doesn't work as well, the range is less than the Netgear products listed below and just doesn't live up to it's price.

    I have the camppro2v2, it's mounted on a pole at the front of our seasonal and from the back of our spot where the deck and gazebo is doing speed tests with a Samsung S22Ultra Ive gotten somewhere between 25-100% faster download speeds going thru the campro2v2 now i think thats mostly because its mounted on a pole and has direct line of site, the signal thru their app is 90% so it's pretty good. I have experienced it dropping so that is a think but all in all in the right circumstances its a good buy. My next experiment will combine 4 accesspoints connected to a load balanced router. My thought is that because they throttle each connection i can get 4x the connection speed doing this.

    Thanks so much for this. The set up with the extender and router works great. And the best thing I used what I had at home with no extra cost. Appreciate it.

    First of all Great Video
    Just a comment on the EX6100v2, I just bought two of these and they are somewhat better than the EX6100. The range is some better on the v2 with fewer drops. I found to to get better speeds when in Access Mode. I use them for 5ea 2MP WiFi Security Cameras. U have them set for max resolution at a bandwidth of 6144kbs. I have ran all 5 on one extender at one time and there was a little bit of buffering but then again that was 30720 kbs hitting a bottleneck. All in all I am real happy with them.

    Thank you very much for the information @HomeAdrift. I’ve been researching WiFi range extenders to use with my Roku sticks in the camper. I think I’m going to try the NetGear device first to avoid drilling and running wire all through the coach. And probably do as you did and pair it with a router. Thanks again.

    Look for "active" USB 3 cable. I have a Marantz microphone (USB output). Never heard a microphone with no noise before, awesome sound, and it's connected through a ~30 foot Tripp Lite active USB 2 cable to my PC. Been enjoying it for years, I'm a believer. You probably need a USB 3 port and cable for that WiFi application.

    Great video, Aric...exactly what I was looking for. EX6100 just arrived and looking forward to get it cranking on our Thanksgiving junket up to the FL Panhandle. Once I get this connected and proven for us, I'll look at that Nighthawk router. Thank you!

    • @reBelBatteries
      @reBelBatteries 3 года назад +2

      WPS is typically only for connecting to a router. Once the EX6100 boots up, log into the wifi that it's broadcasting (should be "netgear"). Once logged in to the wifi, point your browser to mywifiext.net and follow the prompts. At some point, it will poll the park and ask you which Access Point (AP) you would like to connect to. Viola, you should have it from there. Let me know if you still have trouble.

    • @reBelBatteries
      @reBelBatteries 3 года назад +1

      If the EX6100 isn't broadcasting a network name like "netgear" then just grab a paperclip and push the reset button through the tiny hole on the side. You should see something like that then.

    Thanks for the informative video/review. I see that Netgear and others also have WiFi “Mesh” extenders. Will these Mesh extenders operate the same in campgrounds as you’ve described in the video? Or, should I shy away from Mesh? One I’m looking at is the Netgear Nighthawk X4 (EX 7300).

    Thanks for the in depth info! I’m kinda new to full time living in an rv! I live in an rv park. I’ve been tryin to find me a WiFi booster. The question I have is how do I use one when I don’t have access to the rv park router? I’m using theirs that’s offered. The ones I’ve looked at tell me too push a button on the router to connect booster. I’m so confused! Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!! And I’m a new subscriber!!!

    • @HomeAdrift

      They are probably talking about WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup). That's only for use when (physical) access to both devices. Push both buttons and they're supposed to connect. You don't need that. All the Wi-Fi range extenders come with pretty easy-to-follow instructions on how login to the park Wi-Fi. Or, once you connect to the range extender with your phone/laptop it will automatically walk you through what to do. Again, you do NOT need to use the WPS button to connect to the park Wi-Fi. Hope that helps.

    BTW I forgot to say I bought my two EX6100v2 from Amazon USED but looked new for $14.00 each. Also I went to Home Depot and bought a plastic box and made 2 holes for the antennas and hole on the side for the Ethernet cable. Also cut two slots for the AC plug. After I put it in the box I sealed around the antennas and Ethernet wire with rubber glue. Then I just plugged it into a cheap extension cord. It is mounted out on the same pole as 1 of the cameras about 15 ft. above the ground. And now it is water proof.

    My apologies in advance here, dont mean to sound like a dummy, I want to get better wifi pickup inside my Camper when at parks with wifi. If I purchase this netgear EX6150, will I NEED a router too? Or will this netgear ex6150 pull in the wifi park signal, and my devices will connect to this netgear extender booster? I dont understand. Can you please explain to help me better understand?

      No, you do not NEED a router. I was just pointing out that for folks with lots of device it makes the management a bit easier and gives some advanced options. If it's just you, you should be good with just the EX6150 or similar. Good luck Larry!

    • @reBelBatteries
      @reBelBatteries 3 года назад

      The wifi camp pro 2 could work, the wall plug just converts 120V AC into 12V DC.
      So, you would just cut the wall plug off and hook up directly to your 12V system with a simple inline 3 amp fuse. This is what I would do if I only had 12V available.
      I've given a mixed review on the Camp Pro, in your situation, I would say it's better than nothing.

    • @aricshelby
      @aricshelby 4 года назад

      Good question actually. We live in our camper full time... I run the yellow port on the extender to the cable port on the router. The extender automagically pumps the data through that port in extender mode to the router. The real benefit is that everyone only connects to the router and we don't have to reconfigure 15 devices every time we move the camper. I just connect the extender to the new wifi in the park if available.

    • @PJBrunet
      @PJBrunet 3 года назад +1

      You don't really need a separate router because the Netgear extender has a wireless router inside of it. The benefit of the ethernet cable, it's going to be a tiny bit faster than the wireless.

    Have you ever done a video doing software setup and connection of the ex6100v2 extender to the wifi router. If you did, is there a link.

    • @HomeAdrift

      I have a video I'll post today where I discuss the process, but not specifically drilling into the software. Each device has specific steps and too many options to cover. My recommendation is to follow the quick start guide that comes with each device and the default settings are typically good for the 99% of situations. (sorry for the really late reply)

We frequently run multiple streams from our Emby (movie) server, Netflix, and PS4 gaming simultaneously without issue. And of course, laptop web surfing, attached NAS (file storage), Victron equipment (solar wifi connected devices), and tablets and cellphones. It's a beast of a router, never skips a beat.

    Good info but PLEASE change your shots! Show close ups of what you're talking about and get the camera off the same ol' shot all the way through. You know how boring that is? Let's SEE these things not just lying on a table. SHOW them in detail so we can at least visualize what you're talking about. And NEVER interrupt your presentation to ask people to subscribe. We all know how to do this and don't need to be "reminded." I never review a video until it's completed, and don't need to be told how to rate. I rate or subscribe based on information, presentation and above all, no one "telling" me how to do it.
