    I remember watching this match and I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole time. The way Serena can handle pressure is simply impeccable. In an interview after the match, Waston still could not believe she had lost and gave Serena credit for how she handled the pressure and the important points well. This definitely proved how mentally strong Serena is. And that's what it takes to be a champion.

      @Shinobu Tsurubushi "permanently", really? How would you know that? She won her last grand slam in 2017, and she was a runner-up for 2018 US Open and 2018 Wimbledon. This alone shows you she is one of the most consistent players in WTA. Just check the statistics of all players in WTA to compare. Look, they said the same about Roger Federer after he didn't win a grand slam for 5 years (since 2012). And here he is in 2019, with 3 more grand slams which he scooped in 2017 and 2018. Plus, just to correct you, she didn't disappear, she went on maternity leave to have her baby girl.

    • @winfredamazvidza3132

      @Shinobu Tsurubushi Being a champion does not mean you have to win all your matches. Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Nadal, Steffi Graf, and Billie Jean King are all players in the hall of fame yet they have had many highs and lows in their career. What Serena has accomplished in WTA is simply amazing. And those 23 GRAND SLAMS, you can never take away from her.

      Winfreda Mazvidza Very well said. I’ve even heard commentators (of whom I don’t agree with at times 🙄) credit Serena as the GOAT because of her steadfastness and perseverance. Definition: preconceived opinion that is *not based on reason* .

    • @lifeoftennis1285
      @lifeoftennis1285 5 лет назад +2

      Sharon ! No it doesn’t for fucks sake. I’m pretty sure a home crowd is allowed to support their country-woman’s efforts to playing against the greatest female tennis player ever.
      According to you every team in the Football (Soccer) World Cup was facing prejudice.
      According to you Roger Federer and Nadal face prejudice every time at least 1 person from a crown cheers for their opponent.

    BJK advice was perfect, having 90 percent of the audience rooting for your opponent is tough. Navratilova had 25 thousand fans against her in 84 open playing Evert. Understandable since she had a 12 match win streak against her at start of the match. Evert was closing in on the talent gap , but Martina blocked it out enough to barely win 6-4. Evert had improved but wasn’t quite ready to win, she had just enough doubt left. Evert needed to lose a close one to be mad enough not to feel scared the next match that was close against Martina. After this match Chris won 7 times to Martina’s 12 . Of the last 19 matches played 8 matches were in slam tournament.. , Martina winning 5 and Chris winning 3 . 6 of the 8 matches were 3 setters, of the five Martina wins , 4 of them went 3 sets, so Chris was a worthy foe after 13 straight losses in all of 83 &84, I bring these stats up because neither Chris or Martina had Serena’s weapons to win points quickly, mentally they had to fight so hard for each point. Serena is GOAT but she needs to be mentally tougher especially now that she’s older and so many players now have shaped their games to try to play the way Serena does. Osaka did it to her in 2018 open final that genuinely shocked everyone including Serena . Had Serena been mentally tough she would’ve had an even chance to win that second set. Here she admits to thinking during a 3 rd set match about plane tickets etc. I can assure you Chris and Martina couldn’t afford to let their minds wonder.

    That was not nice of the British fans to yell like this during points. It is customary in tennis that the fans cheer after points and not during play. I really respect Serena that she held her nerves against such negative crowd. Good for you, Serena. You are the best player in the world. Do not let these things bother you.

    I don't understand why Serena Williams, being such a mature person, who has dominated this beautiful sport and lets herself be carried away by rage because only the audience screams and makes a lot of noise. At this point she should have this kind of stuff under control. It's not my favorite tennis player, but I like her, only that she should be more stable, emotionally, today. IMHO!

    Did I miss something? I thought the Wimbledon crowd was supposed to be the most respectful one. The one who enjoys the competition at its peak. This seemed a bit disrespectful. Like Serena is the GOAT in womens tennis, like it or hate it. I have never seen them do this to Federer.

    Typical Serena, no one gets her off her game other than herself. No athlete in history can make that claim. The greatest tennis player ever, after my playing over five decades , Serena has evolved the game to the max at the moment. don’t see anyone changing that anytime soon, however it’s how she’s been such a champion for woman’s tennis and tennis period, and continually changed the game. She just needs 2 more and she’ll hold the record.
