I think this is number 3 of rollar coasters that I can handle at dorny park because I have a fear of heights but I’ve never tried this ride but this ride looks like something I can handle

I grew up riding Thunderhawk; I'm pretty sure it was my first coaster. I absolutely love riding it because it's so familiar and nostalgic. The speed is great, super thrilling, and nice airtime. Lots of negative g's cresting that first big hill after the drop, after the two smaller hills. If memory serves (it's been a couple years), the third turn at around 1:20-1:25 has some rough lateral g's and will smash you to the left side of the seat a little, but the rest of the curves aren't particularly bad. Because I'm a freak I'd probably still ride it even if I was 70 years old lol

Oh man, this brought me way back. The Thunderhawk was my first roller coaster ever, I think I was around 8-10 or so (1996/98). I was so scared, but my grandfather went on it with me. He passed away around 3 years ago, and Dorney Park will always be a place that reminds me of him.
I remember riding this baby when it was just called "The Coaster", the trains loaded next to the Scooter bumper cars, and wasn't far from Journey to the Center of the Earth. Dorney was very unique in those days, now it's just a cookie-cutter park.

Thunderhawk was an amazing wooden coaster when I had rode it last June during my first visit to the park! I didn't find it rough at all as I believe they had done some support restructuring during the 2014/15 off season. I am sad to see the buzz bar trains go, but hopefully the coaster will be just as good or even better than when I had experienced it! :-)
I hope it will be good in 2016! I couldn't ride it last year, so my last ride was 2014. I thought my nuts were going to burst. Lots of painful roughness.

I know they have plans on doing some more restoration on this coaster along with adding new trains so, hopefully they do more re-tracking/ restructuring of the supports like they had done during the 2014/2015 off season. :-)
AJ Syslo Yes, the paint job will look amazing along with the bright lights that will outline the coaster. The trims may be removed as they want people to have a comfortable ride. The mid-course brake run on GhostRider at Knotts Berry Farm had been (or will be) removed during the restoration process in order to create a more enjoyable ride along with new trains. I like it how Cedar Fair is restoring wooden coasters and not converting them to a hybrid like Six Flags has been doing with RMC. Don't get me wrong, RMC's projects look great but, I do enjoy the feeling of riding good wooden coasters. But, maybe horrible wooden coasters do deserve the RMC treatment if the re-tracking doesn't work out. :-)
Well good news, they did a good job with all of the work because the coaster looks great and the new trains are more comfortable and the ride is noticeably smoother! I honestly didn't enjoy it a whole lot before but now it's a lot more fun! Still has a kick to it but in a good way.
I never rode Thunderhawk before the new trains and re-tracking, but it was a very fun ride. The transitions between the turns are awkward, but that's because they didn't have the technology to make the track that smooth. But there's not much rattling and the trains are comfortable. It's a really fun family-friendly coaster. But if they removed the trims, it would seriously be great.

My first coaster in 1966. My mother was a coaster enthusiast from her childhood at Kennywood Park in western Pennsylvania. This roller coaster, simply called The Coaster when I first rode on it, had (and still does) an intrinsic charm about it. The Bumper Cars were located right in the same station were The Coaster began and ended. It was the sights, sounds and the aroma of grilling food and popcorn that enhanced the roller coaster ride until those Bumper Cars were removed.
Theme park review do you know when does Roller Coaster in the Raw Volume 10 and Roller Coaster in the raw in HD Volume 6 comes out? I've been waiting for those 2 DVD's for more than a year.

+Tony Kim The PTC Trains will be replaced with PTC trains. The difference is that the new trains will have no headrests and separate lap bars, so you're destined to have a better ride. The color difference, they will be red and white instead of blue.

Is this ride scary? I’m going here in a day or two with my son and granddaughter, and my granddaughter convinced me to go on this ride! I’m very excited but very nervous. We’re also going at night too…so it’s going to be very dark outside. Scary! 😬
I think the new trains just made this ride worse. I rode it with the new trains today and it was very cramped, and it really beat me up. With the old trains, you had more room, and it didn't deal as jerky.
Knowing the unfortunate trends, I can see Dorney closing this down to get RMC'd. It's a shame that it has to be the wooden coasters. They're my absolute favorite to ride
Damn thing knocked around so hard I got a headache. It's so bumpy it literally kicks your ass. And it's absolutely terrible for tall people like me I have my knees up against the front of the cart and my knees got banged up real bad. Thunder hawk is fastest way to get arthritis
Bad memories with this roller coaster. I remember the last time I went on it, my belt restrain was totally loose and I was flying every where. I was scared for my life that I would fall off. After, I vowed to never go on this coaster again.
Herbert Schmeck is probably rolling in his grave right now, for all the so-called modifications they did to the Thunderhawk (he was the designer of this coaster). After that first drop, there used to be a large camel hump. And the trim brakes that they put in at the end of the ride absolutely screwed it up, not to mention the fact that they took out the original station that also housed the bumper cars. Thanks, Cedar Fair for destroying Dorney Park's heritage
+howardkevinm True. But why did Hercules age so badly? It only survived for 14 years from 1989 to 2003 due to high maintenance, roughness, and low ridership. But yet this has been operational since 1923.
I'm a pretty thin dude, but I have wide hips and I'm about 6'4", and I actually cannot fit on this ride because of it. My hips are too wide for the seat and my legs are too long for the cars. XD

It has a lap bar too. So the seatbelt isn't just the restraint. You are fine
