Interesting take on these headphones. Now that I think about it, I have to agree with just about everything you said. Scott Ostr m40x are my daily that i take everywhere but also my cheapest pair where I wouldn't mind if it breaks. I use it primarily when I'm out in public, or editing video. but because I use it so much, I'm the most familiar with the sound signature and due to its close to neutral sound, I'll also use it for initial comparing with other headphones and amps. but when I'm home and I have no one else to bother, I prefer my hd800, m1060 (recently swapped for hd650) and when there are people around, My th-610.
The production tutorial stuff sounds good, I would watch that. I haven't heard the M40X, but the M30X is my go-to recommendation for an intro to the headphone hobby. It gets down to $45 on amazon sometimes and has a sound that pleases most people. Fixed cable but the detachable cable mod is super easy.
I just want to comment that I have had two different m40xs here with me at the same time and they didn't come with the same pads. One was stiff (not mine) and mine had the same pads as m50x (The softer pads). I first thought that it was because mine has been used for a while but upon inspecting some brand new spare pads that I also got, they are the same as on my m40x... The softer ones. So now I compared the sound, mine was definitely more neutral/less v-shaped thanks mostly to the pads and some may be to burn in. And yes, I did swap pads, cables etc... to narrow down where the differences came from. Also I know that you don't believe in cables but just try and do an AB test comparing the straight and the coiled cable. They also sound a little different. The coiled cable is slightly thicker sounding.

@@Cobalt985 Thats another extreme, between m40x and m50x in terms of sound signature is perfect for me. I like a bit of sibilance in the highs, cuz it adds some impact, with good soundstage and imaging. Dont know why your talking about beats...who likes it
DMS the M40 is sad? The M40 on my iPad and IPod classic are amazing. They don’t sound as good as my Sony MDR 7506, or my Beats Pros on my MacBook Pro, but they are still sound good. I don’t know what type of sound you are used to but these headphone are legit . The M50x suck. The Sony MDR 1A suck. I don’t have unlimited resources to test every headphone, but the Beats Pros, Sony MDR 7506 and Audio Technica M40 are legit. And not just for rap music. Watch the first five minutes of the movie Zeitgeist with your other favorite headphones and tell me if the sound better than the M40s. Seriously doubt that they will.
Got 2 pairs of m50x one with shure 1540pads which make them extremely comfortable And sound great. ordered a set of dekoni elite pads, apparently they keep exactly the same sound signature as the original pads with a ton more Comfort
I personally no longer have comfort issues with the stock pads, I've noticed that they got softer with use but thats with me using them continuosly for 6 hours at a time plus I have rather small-ish ears
Its my strong opinion that no one should have to compromise on wearability in the way that those stock pads cause you to. they are too shallow and too firm. Even if you find the stock pads to be fine, that just means you'll find HM5 pads to be THAT much better. But do what you like.
I'm very certain they will improve comfort but after taking the stock pads on & off, taking note of the angle of the driver, & changing the way I put them on my head, the driver no longer touches my ears. I don't exactly know how I did it though
Hi could you review super cheap headphones too? There are particular ones that are wort checking out: Superlux HD330 those are open back clone of Beyerdynamic headphones with 150 ohm drivers. I was using them as daily drivers for around a year with original velor Beyrydynamic pads. They were super comfortable. In compare to other cheap headphones they were way better. An instantly recognizable better sound quality compare to for example Sennheiser HD201 and similar stuff. And all of that for 30 euro + 20 for pads.
Here is one of Head-fi thread about them: www.head-fi.org/t/631222/superlux-hd330-29euros-gives-you-a-lot-review My pair looks like this: cdn.head-fi.org/2/21/350x700px-LL-21db4c22_hd330.jpeg
I've been using velour pads for my M50Xs that I got from Massdrop. I have been using them for at least a year, and I am very happy with the comfort. Much less hot than stock pads.
Feel better than the shp9500s? Nnnnoononono. No. M series build quality is garbage. Very very creaky over time. Extremely uncomfortable clamp that is pretty much impossible to remedy. Headband is uncomfortable as fuuuuuck. And they’re heavy as shit. Shp9500s on the other hand are brilliant. No creaking, beautiful padding, supremely comfortable and light weight. Low clamp.Phenomenal build quality and most comfortable headphone I’ve ever tried
boring v-shaped huh.. too bad, I really wanted these. Pads don't fit on these? that's too bad.. I have a pair of Audeze Sine, the earcups is obviously smaller and the HM5 Sheepskin fits tight and perfect.
From my experience, those do NOT survive a 1 meter drop... (and they don't survive a second drop either). I had to repair them and, thank god it worked... The sound that they produce is amazing for a closed on the go pair of headphone, they support any EQ which is important for me (I like to EQ my portables and listen to flat EQ at home on my DT990) If you like headphones, buy a pair of these EDIT: Also, they need a new cable (there are some amazing cables on amazon) and new pads (HM5 pads are OK for me, but I used the stock pads until they were done)
I just bought these and they don't sound different at all, my cloud core's sound almost as good. and they have a microphone, better confort, build and are cheaper
This is one of the worst reviews I've seen in a long while. You, as a RUclipsr, are called an influencer. You say things about a stuff and people take your word for it. Everyone knows what the price range of the product and everyone knows that for the most part, you get what you paid for. Now saying things like these are boring, uncomfortable, V-shaped and whatnot is a bad act because it will stick to the product. Doesn't matter whatever you say after the initial sentence. Whether they're good for the range or still worth the price or anything. Because you shat on the product and regardless if it's worth the money, people will act accordingly and won't buy it. You should consider that everyone knows the price and your sentences are formed accordingly. Otherwise all you do is comparing 100$ headphones to $1500 ones and call them bad. Also I don't exactly know how sensitive your ears are but I went ahead to check the frequency response map of this pair of cans. Most altered frequency has 3db difference from a flat flow. So your v-shaped statement is nothing but ridiculous.
OK, well if they are similar pads to the M50x's then they are uncomfortable. I tested the M50X's myself and find the earpads hot and painful to wear for long periods of time. Also, he said slightly V shaped. You are exaggerating what he said. You can't damn a review because didn't listen exactly in line with the frequency response map. That's bullshit. Not everyone is going to agree with your God Zeos.
So your issue with his review is that he pointed out things that he disliked? The whole point is to get an unbiased opinion. How do you expect to make an informed decision if you watch reviewers that just shill the product
V shaped? They're not V-shaped, sorry I disagree.. they're flat and excellent for monitoring. For the price they come, they're a steal for someone on a budget who need audio accuracy.

Can you please review the Beyerdynamic DT 150s??
i know you want to expose your work at music production. it could be interesting but it could make the channel a little bit technically, so lets se what happens.
They sounded lifeless, that's what I wanted to hear from him...
@@Cobalt985 Thats another extreme, between m40x and m50x in terms of sound signature is perfect for me. I like a bit of sibilance in the highs, cuz it adds some impact, with good soundstage and imaging.
Dont know why your talking about beats...who likes it
chose m40X or m50X??? pls help me :(
Neither. AKG K550
@@DMS3TV i think technica is better ^^
Anton Wave it’s definitely not. AudioTechnica makes pretty sad headphones in this line.
@@DMS3TV oh! Thanks for advices ^^
M50x sound terrible
@@WillJukedTheBox M40x is better... o wait no BEATS BY DRE SOUNDED BETTER lol
I personally no longer have comfort issues with the stock pads, I've noticed that they got softer with use but thats with me using them continuosly for 6 hours at a time plus I have rather small-ish ears
likewise, it took 3 months for them a lot of listening for months for them to soften up and the tension of the headband to relax somewhat.
Enra Versadi apparently my experience with the comfort of my m40x is invalid to you.
Here is one of Head-fi thread about them:

My pair looks like this:

I knew it, it's slightly V-shaped, my friend doesn't believe me.
for me heavily v-shaped, everything is dimmed with bass and harsh treble
i don´t think they are boring :((((
Man sure this review is bad...
Tried status audio cb-1?
Matan T yes indeed, but wait for my next vid. More affordable closed cans that are great.
Still waiting
@@isaac2121211 I feel like that one dog from futurama waiting for his owner that will never come
Boring? Sure, this is monitoring headphone. But, v-shaped? really? Do you know the difference between v-shape and flat frequency?
Yes. It sounds and measures V shaped. I worked in a studio for a long time and this is certainly not a flat headphone.
I've been using velour pads for my M50Xs that I got from Massdrop. I have been using them for at least a year, and I am very happy with the comfort. Much less hot than stock pads.
Thanks Much !....... DMS!
You need an EQ with M40X Like 60HZ 3DB 150HZ 2DB 400HZ 6DB 1Khz 6DB 3000Khz 1DB 8Khz -2DB 16Khz -4DB :) at Samsung Smartphone ;)
boring v-shaped huh.. too bad, I really wanted these. Pads don't fit on these? that's too bad.. I have a pair of Audeze Sine, the earcups is obviously smaller and the HM5 Sheepskin fits tight and perfect.
8:33 That would be great
i had these some time ago, i enjoyed these but sold them anyway xd idk why
From my experience, those do NOT survive a 1 meter drop... (and they don't survive a second drop either). I had to repair them and, thank god it worked... The sound that they produce is amazing for a closed on the go pair of headphone, they support any EQ which is important for me (I like to EQ my portables and listen to flat EQ at home on my DT990)
If you like headphones, buy a pair of these
EDIT: Also, they need a new cable (there are some amazing cables on amazon) and new pads (HM5 pads are OK for me, but I used the stock pads until they were done)
oh my god you have a oneshot wallpaper!
Angelo Ralph yup! Now ive been sucked into Hyper Light Drifter though.
Would have taken you for a Linux guy.....interesting!
I just bought these and they don't sound different at all, my cloud core's sound almost as good. and they have a microphone, better confort, build and are cheaper
Yes! Someone who shares the same opinion as me. They are boring. :/
Your haircut is really really upsetting
It’s barely changed years later
I make beats so a mixing mastering series would be awesome
Its a review based on the reviewer's opinion, not a fucking advert
OMFG. you must really have no life if you have time to write a f@king *BIBLE* just to tell someone you think they're sh1t
Damn, show me where does it hurt you? Snowflake.
Ath m40s are way better than the 598s open back
Master and Dynamic Mh40
Ayyyy
Ayyyy
Lmao
Ayyyy
O my Good you are so really beautiful in this video DMS,you almost looks like a beautiful Girl ;)
V shaped? They're not V-shaped, sorry I disagree.. they're flat and excellent for monitoring. For the price they come, they're a steal for someone on a budget who need audio accuracy.
the numbers don't lie. They are nowhere near flat and all the measurements confirm. I would never let these near my studio.
