No one that deals with colors calls white and black non-colors. Clearly they don't work with colors. Artists and UI designers think not calling them colors is just silly.
In person Yellowstone canyon is surprisingly yellow. Like the Grand Canyon isn't literally red, it's definately red as far as rocks and dirt go.

Argentina roughly means “land of silver.” Although that’s largely due to the vast silver deposits.
Silver deposits predicted by the Spanish, Argentina doesn't have that much silver.

There are at least two states in the US with colorful names:
Vermont is named for the Green Mountains (in French), where Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys fought in the Revolution.
The state of Colorado is named after the Colorado River, which in from the Spanish word for red (it seems to be derived from the past participle of “color” in Spanish, thus meaning “colored” in the generic sense, came to mean more specifically red-colored. Red beans are called “frijoles Colorados”).
Although I agree that this is probably what the name is supposed to mean, it should be pointed out that the French word ver literally means "worm."
Bernhard Wall Remember, this was 300 years old French, and “vert” with a silent “t” means “green.” So “les vert monts” would be “the green mountains.” And non-French speakers wouldn’t necessarily know about the silent letters.

When Italy was colonizing parts of Africa, they named their small East African colony after the Greek word for red: Eritrea.
The first "Green" place that pop into my head was Bowling Green , Kentucky.
Greenland instantly came to mind when I read the colour green.

There is a town in Bosnia called Srebrenik which means silver "nik" and was named for the silver colour of the rocks on a nerby mountain

Brazil is named after the Brazilwood, which means "ember wood" due to its ember red color
Purple island, Qatar. Its where purple lavender have been growing and used historically for dyes by the Persian empire. Its used in the flag during 1700s but due to the heat and the humidity it slowly turned maroon, similar to the colour you see today.
Here in Argentina we have a city called Azul (literally, Blue in spanish)
And a Province called Black River, Rio Negro

There are two towns called Orange in Australia. I've only heard of Orange County from The OC!
In The Netherlands we have a town called Oranjedorp, meaning Orange Town. We also have Blauwkapel means Blue Chapel, Grijssloot means Grey Brook, Groenekan means Green Can, Zwartsluis means Black Lock/Sluice, Roodeschool means Red School, Witte Paarden means White Horses, Geelbroek means Yellow Trousers, Bruinisse means Brown Niche. Lots of towns with colors in its name.
There's also Orange County , Florida, Orange county, Texas the Orange bowl which a BCS college football 🏈 championshipgame played in Miami, Florida and Orange, New Jersey

North Carolinian here. Absolutely thrilled you chose Greensboro! I have sung the National Anthem at the minor league ballpark there ( The Grasshoppers) and some of my family lives there.
In irish we use alout of colours for place names if you see roe it means red coming from rua. Are capital comes from dubh linn mean black water or something phoinex Park coming from fionn uisce. And áth boy coming from Átha buí- something yellow. Etc we love naming stuff from colours and Arizona means red river

In Northeast Ohio, there are two rivers called the Black River and the Vermilion River. They have these names because each one's bed is made of a different type of shale, and the color of the shale gave its name to the river.
There's also the town of Vermilion at the mouth of the Vermilion River.
Some Irish examples: Dublin (from Dubh Linn meaning black pool), Greencastle (Donegal), Redcastle (Donegal), Blackpool (Cork), Blackrock (Dublin, Louth and Cork), Greystones (Wicklow)

Montenegro: monte (mountain) + negro (black) = black mountain
Casablanca: casa (house) + blanca (white) = white house
Vermont: verd (green) + mont (mountain) = green mountain

I remember learning the words to America the Beautiful as a kid and thinking the line about purple mountain majesties being silly, but now it makes sense.
Pink Lake used to be much pinker, but when I went there in December the pink was dulled down though still a bit pink.
In Puerto Rico we have Dorado, here people usually call the gold color like that and Cabo Rojo that is red end or red tail.
青森 Aomori in Japan means Grue Forest
A more interesting one is the name for the Japanese underworld, 黄泉 meaning Yellow Springs.

Besides Greensboro, NC, Greenville, NC was also named after Nathanael Greene. I live in Raleigh, NC, which is almost halfway between the two Greens.
In Essex UK we have some roads and a Housing company called Greenfields
Close to the Purple Mountain in County Kerry you will find the Black Valley. It probably got its name because it is in the shade of the surrounding mountains. However, the locals will tell you that the name came because the valley, which is remote, was one of the last places in Ireland to be connected to the electric grid, in 1976!

imo as a Cali Resident, Orange County is named after The City of Orange "Officially" because Orange = Good, Fun, Knowable Name, but they couldn't just make it *about* oranges could they?
Namless's Media Dump I never heard that before. I was always told we are called “Orange County” due to the vast orange orchards that used to cover the land. I have 90 year-old relatives who like to reminisce and tell me about how the county used to be covered in orange orchards. I have been led to believe that there is only one orange orchard left in the OC. I’ve been told it’s around the Ikea in Costa Mesa. But, I don’t know if that is true.

But Because Naming a County after a Fruit is stupid and naming it after a town is not a County named after a Town named after a Fruit that it Sells is genius.
It's interesting that there are a few Orange Counties around the U.S., but with different etymologies. I always assumed that Orange County, CA was named for the fruit. Orange County, FL is also probably named for the fruit. Orange County, NY is named for the royal house, just like Orange County, VA is as was mentioned. I don't know if there are other Orange Counties.

I grew up in a village called Siverdale, that was named because it was once a valley of silver birch trees but I bet there's more names with more colours than just the rainbow ;)
In Southern Sweden, Scania. A lot - and I mean A LOT of places have the word "red" at the end. "Huaröd" for example

There's also Greensville, South Carolina. Both Greensboro and Greensville are well above the rest of the Carolinas.
What about Portugal? Some languages ,including Romanian(portocaliu) and Turkish(portokal), have vary similar names for the colour orange(it may come from the fruit but it's almost the same word)

Scotland has the Cairngorms national park. Given it’s name from the Cairn Gorm mountain which is in its heart! Cairn Gorm translates from Scottish Gaelic as “An Càrn Gorm”, “Càrn” meaning hill/mountain and “Gorm” meaning blue👍
There's also the small city of Tierra amarilla(yellow earth) on the north of Chile a very mining focused city in the Atacama deserts

Another green-related place-name here in the States, thru another language, is the state of Vermont which, I believe, translates as "green mountain/hill" from French.
The Coptic (Ancient Egyptian) name for Egypt is Keemi, which means Black Land, due to the soot and topsoil that comes from the Nile and is used to grow the crops
Whitesands, Singapore- known mostly for being the ferry point for National Servicemen. The general area is called Pasir Ris, which means the same thing in Malay. There is a corresponding beach on the other side of the Strait called Pasir Putih (also white sands). There is actual white sand there too.
Bukit Merah, Singapore (also one in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia) - it's not an actual Redhill (another place name too) but connected to a local legend about the hill running reddue a dead boy killed out of envy by Malay leaders (what is new).
A lot of places in South East Asia have names "Emas" in their name, which means "gold". The Malaysian state of Perak means "silver" although the state is known more for tin.
There is an Orange County in Florida as well. Disney World is nearby.

In Denmark we have Rødby (Redtown), Rødovre (Redover), Hvidovre (Whiteover), Blåvand (Bluewater), Sortebro (Blackbridge) to name just a few.
'Red' (красный) and 'beautiful' (красивый) are similar sounding and similarly written words in Russian; it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine the words got mixed at some point or another.
Once a teacher told us that one comes from the other, that beautiful is just an extension of red. So apparently it's not casual
In Jordan we have a city called Al-Zarqa which means blue in Arabic.
In Istanbul, there are quarters and neighborhood named Yeşilköy- Green Village, Karaköy- Black/Dark Village, Sarıyer- Yellow Place. Also, Karadeniz- the Black Sea, and surprisingly Turks say Akdeniz, literally the White Sea for the Mediterranean, Mavi Göl- Blue Lake, Kara Göl- Black Lake and many more

The county seat of the county where I live is named White Plains. The county that I work in is named Orange County (this is in suburban New York). New York has the oldest Orange County in the USA.
I live no less then five miles from Blue Ball Pa and it always both annoys me and amuses me at how people outside of the area all have to look and laugh and question why on earth it is called that name.

The largest city & 1 of 2 capitals of the Lubusz Voivodeship (1 of 16 Voivodeships of Poland) is named Zielona Góra which literally means "Green Mountain".
Also, Monteverde National Park in Costa Rica. Just like Vermont, Monteverde essentially means "Green Mountain", albeit in Spanish.

That makes sense: before New York was named New York, it was actually called New Amsterdam. And the Royal House of The Netherlands is called Oranje.
At my place here we have quite few places named after colour. Cihideung = black water, Cibodas = white water, Cikoneng = yelow water, Cibiru = blue water, Cibeureum = red water
After a quick glance at a globe and off the top of my head:
Colorado, Yellow River, Argentina (kinda), Belarus, Montenegro.
Well... I happen to live in a place called Redmond... and not too far away is a town called "Auburn" -- both, in spite of their names, are more green and grey than their names imply.
