- Patrick Mahomes is still the favorite for the MVP following the Kansas City Chiefs’ bye, and entering their matchup against the favored San Francisco 49ers. Fred Warner said that he “doesn’t know” how to stop Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Brock is better but Jimmy was always more solid than Nick and others gave him credit for. Choosing the raiders and McDaniels last was his downfall. I think he could’ve played well in several other situations. Every qb is dependent on the situation and obviously the 49ers are a great situation. So are the chiefs, maybe even more so

I think the question is what you mean by MOST VALUABLE PLAYER. It's not supposed to be the Best Scoring Person. It's whose the MOST VALUABLE PERSON to their team. Here’s the argument I have for Patrick mahomes MVP. Pick any other QB right now. Can they do the same thing with the same supportive cast? So take away Derek Henry and flowers away from Lamar. Can he go 5-0 still? No, because they already lost a couple games. His stats aren’t great I agree. But a MVP should never be who has the best stats. It should be the Most Valued Player. Patrick Mahomes is making it work. I’d say as long as he keeps winning he should be in the MVP talks. It would have been scary if KC picked up Amari or Davonte.

we all get that mahomes is an all-time great player and a GREAT teammate. now, however, you need to have some non-fanboy NUANCE to not just jump at what i'm about to say: no one in NFL history has gotten more extra credit for doing less, whether it's pro bowls over more deserving players (e.g. last year), "best player in the league" designation (despite clearly not playing like it), SB MVPs for mid performances, and most absurd of all: even ENTERTAINING the idea of GOAT status....the standards have been lowered for all of it. he has been handed these accolades like participation trophies despite them being based on team achievements (spags one of the greatest defensive coordinators of all-time with absolute dogs like chris jones on D/andy reid scheming people wide open plus YAC/kelce 2nd greatest TE of all-time/best interior o-line in the league/butker best kicker in the game making 60 yarders like chip shots). the same things guys like brady get discredited for (e.g. having a strong defense in his early years), mahomes gets credit for despite playing worse than brady ever did when you consider the fact that he had worse receivers and the rules favored defenses, which has led to statistical inflation for QBs today. it makes it harder and harder to support him when you just give him all the credit and prematurely crown him. the chiefs as a whole have excellent players AND coaches in ADDITION to mahomes, so this type of simplistic mindset really is a disservice to mahomes himself to not wait and allow him to prove to everyone what his ultimate potential actually is over the course of his career. he has already done AMAZING things, but the worshiping and revisionist history about these 6 years while downplaying historical greats of the game has been offputting to say the least.

One item that has not been considered in this argument regarding Kelce; the opponents know that the Chiefs do not have a long threat. Subsequently, they can double Kelce to eliminate him from the equation. They are forcing someone else on the Chiefs to beat them.
