the boat owners in florida swear by peppermint oil to keep the palm rats out of their boats. a few drops on a cotton ball in every compartment . no rats and the boat smells good. i use it and have never had a rat or mouse in my boat.
I like Chevys. I'm thinking that if you plant a lot of peppermint around where you park the vehicles, that may keep rodents away from the vehicles. Lots of peppermint. How wonderful that you have your Chevy back.
From the sound of your voice I can see how proud you are of you Chevy. You should be proud. You brought it back from history. They we’re the coolest cars back then , still are. You better take some advice about dealing with those dang rats. See if the moth balls work. Definitely can’t have this happen again. She sounds great. ♥️😊👍🌟🐶
Since you have the original tail light lense you could make a simple plaster mold casting of it from the original which you glued together and pour several reproductions from it with off-the-shelf plastic two-part liquids and just grind off the edges from the mold and buff them up. The hard part is having the original "WHICH YOU HAVE" to make the reproductions. - jfm
Robert, ....I've done this before on my first car which was a 1959 Thunderbird as a couple tail lights were missing and I used one of the others to make reproductions. It is a simple project but takes time. - jfm
@@THEOLDBYRDFARMVLOG Be sure to use Dental plaster for the mold as it will last quite a long time and you could make numerous reproductions with a simple two-piece mold. Just lay an inch of plaster enough that the lense will fit into it. Embed it half-way then let it dry. Be sure to spray the lense with silicone spray so the mold will release easily at the end. After the first half of the mold is dry spray the mold and the top-side of the lense again before you pour in the second half layer of the plaster. Oops! forgot to say to in the beginning use some kind of plastic cup or cottage cheese carton or the like to pour the plaster molds into. Once the second layer is dry just release the carton/container from the molds and carefully separate the molds. Please note that when pouring the first mold use a small dowel rod to push into part-way to use as a register for the second pouring of plaster to align with so you will have a perfect fit mold and then make as many as you like. You will have to make a couple flutes to pour and vent the solution when molding. It takes time but well worth it. For about $40 bucks you will have reserve lenses and/or to spares to sell to others who have no lenses for their rods. - jfm
A 57 Chevy was my dad's first brand new car. It was the car I learned to drive on. Brings back some great memories. I'm so sorry the rats did such a job on your wiring. Hope you are able to get rid of them for good. The farm is looking so good with the bulk of the wisteria gone. Thanks for sharing. Have a Blessed day.
I had a friend that meticulously refurbished a 57 Chevy …..we picked it up from having the last thing done the interior rolled and pleated …..pulled it in the garage …..we went in to eat lunch ….I looked out the kitchen window and flames were coming from the garage….both the garage and the car were a total loss 😩
Hi Robert, Will give you so much credit how you do not give up on things that look like no on else would take the time to fix up. We love your determination. The Old Byrd Farm is really coming along, but as always that wisteria will not go away. One of these days you will be wisteria free. We would wondering if you maybe have an underground spring some where that is making that part of your yard always be wet. Yes the rain does have something to do with it but who knows it could be a surprise under ground spring. Happy to see your car is working again. We look forward to see your next video, have a wonderful day
Great job on the Chevy. Replace what you have for the access panel for the gas tank with a scrap piece of metal using self-tappers so you can still get to it. This is a major hole especially for rats. Think about covering as many other holes as you can. This probably won't stop them but may slow them down. Driving the car more often will also help. I have a 1965 Thunderbird and have the same problem mice and I live in NH.
Robert you seem to know so much about everything, you obviously had some great teachers in your childhood, and you payed attention, good for you, I wish today's kids had half the interest in anything but there phones. Your awesome, I have even learned some new things from you, Great job 👍😊❤❤
The other robert and I meet up about once every two weeks so he can turn in an SD card. I edit all of his videos. But he is about 60 miles away from me now, so not as easy for us to film together
Long live the 57 chevy!! So happy she is alive and well once again and OMG that new muffler sounds great on the ole girl! Poor thing really needs a nice safe garage, at her age. Your doing a great job, Robert in keeping life in her. thinking maybe some sort of home made bracket you could make out of some aluminum angle or stip and drill a few holes in ether end, to keep it in place??
I heard that they use peanut oil to make the wire insulation, that's why they eat the insulation. By the way, a mixture of corn meal, and baking soda will get rid of them.
In addition to the heating & cooling system ( you KNOW you’ll need A/C especially in Georgia!!!) how about wiring in a sound system with a sub under the rear seat and 4 6x9’s in the rear deck!, then you really won’t have to worry about hearing anything!!!.
Robert, I've got a suggestion regarding rats eating wires. Time to employ a "corn snake" to be resident in your Chev. Make sure there are no hole large enough for the snake to escape from however! - jfm
Good job on the car. Concentrated lemon oils helped me get rid of my mice, maybe it'll work for rats. (and it really worked on the mice - they hate it)
Glad you got it fixed! Saw your table and chair in the yard and was thinking. . you need a gazebo in the yard. That would be beautiful! Shelter from the rain and a beautiful place for friends to gather. Your thoughts?
The '57 lives! I understand why you did not show wiring it all but I would have certainly been interested in seeing it. I started out watching this channel when you were working on old jeeps... the US mail jeep seats. Man those rats!! What will you do to keep those wire crimnals out? Great video! Yay!! Driving it!! SWEET!! 🎉🎉👍👍
1957chevys didn't have computers. My first car was one, bought in 1970. I went out from my apt one day and it was GONE! Police found it in a ditch. It had rained and the thieves left the windows down and the inside was full of mud. So much for that car...bummer.
I remember in different episodes of Pimp My Ride they would commonly find rats that had nests in the dash and others that had burrowed into the seats. I hate rats! Get some D-Con and some rat traps smeared with peanut butter. They are very smart animals.
Robert the mice etc don’t like peppermint you can buy the oil and put it on some cotton balls in the car or go to your local hardware store and they have packets of peppermint that you can put in various places inside the vehicle. Donna/MIchigan
Man, the fella I talked to there was great. And they had it back to me in less than a week. Amazing service. I shoulda just had them fix it the first time around
Not sure it will work for rats, but try putting an open jar of vapor rub in the car, critters don't like the smell. Don't feel bad about not filming everything, I'm glad we missed the pile of poop.
ok here is my answer to Rats in a car. I used a product called Repels all( by bonide). I sprayed the engine with it. It does smell for a while but the rats stopped
Essential oils are some of the best natural rat repellents. Rats have a highly developed sense of smell, which makes strong odors such as pine oil, cinnamon oil, and even peppermint oil offensive to them. Cayenne pepper, cloves, and ammonia will keep rats away as well.
Oohhh the muffler sounds cherry!! Could be the tree rats (squirrels) too. They're notorious in Georgia for chewing wire. They get in house attics & will destroy wiring/duct work if there's any up there. If you have big holes underneath the car in diff places .. u can stuff steel wool in the large holes. Critters don't like that. Just a thought. Of course that's once you make sure there's no more inside. Maybe set a rat trap inside the trunk with just a smidgen of Pnut butter. That's key .. only very lil so they have to work & press hard on the trap plate to set it off. Otherwise they'll never trip the trap. But u prob already know that. Anyway good luck, b safe & well. Rest easy. ☮️🙂
Robert, those taillight wires do run right along the space where you have them. They were wrapped in wire tape and had a protective weaved sock they then went into. Just wrap them up and slide them into a plastic protector like they sell at auto parts or score some from something at a wrecking yard. Helps keep the rats off the wires too.
It sucks how relentless those damn rats are on your nice old project car , are you ever gunna get it fully painted or wrapped ? And the interior finished?
I do love watching your videos, they make me laugh, and admire your tenacity. Do you have MOT tests in the USA? I worry about the safety of driving that Chevy; no seat belts, and more holes than Emmental cheese. Are you going to install air bags etc?
the cloth interior knocks down the interior noise, along with the insulation and padding, do you have a heater core in the 57? do you have the electric motor for the heater assembly ? the waste could have come from the back seat area , Rats & mice do not like peppermint, if you soak cloth with peppermint oil, it is a good repellant , the smell lasts about a month, then you will have to re dose the cloth. get a rat trap, bate with peanut butter with a hemp string. that way they are not able to just lick off the bate, they hit the string and bite! snap! good luck!
This is Robert doing his cool James Dean number. We know how you love the "taint" of anything to do with Rats. Thankyou for not filming (you gagging) while cleaning up. A body restoration and repaint in an irridescent Aqua/Copper would be the most attractive thing yet. The only thing missing now are Bumgy Cords.
I love animals but rats and mice destroy so much. I used to use live traps, but they returned right away when I put them outside. I would try essential oil, but put snap traps in and around your car with peanut butter. Barn cats are good also but watch that they don't go after your wild birds. Also borrow a friend's rat terrier dog. They are amazing and run rats off.
Maybe you still have a rat or maybe the new crap is from parts of car you couldn't get to with vacuum cleaner and it just fell out when you started driving it down the road. That girl needs a paint and body job.
It’s back together

I know for a fact that rats and mice do not like peppermint or mint plants at all! I have used it myself with excellent results. Very good suggestion!
Oh, that new muffler sounds GOOD!!!!!! Tough, cherry and whatever other words from the 60's. I was surprised. Neat. God bless.
Love the 5,6,7 Chevy s❤ we used to own a 55 Bel Air. In Bermuda Green and Shoreline Beige. Bench seats. Fun times.
Robert you need to clear some of that property and build you a pole barn for your tractor and your old automobiles godspeed my Southern brother

♥️😊👍🌟🐶
Robert, you are amazing with old cars!! You have to get rid of that dang rats!! You have worked too hard on that old gem!💯
Happy for you Robert, I love 57 Chevy 's❤
That is nice!! Sounds bring back high school memories and the guys all working on their cars to get that perfect sound!

Love your crappie wiring job
We have mint in our vegie garden and no rats. Love the rebuild on the chevy.
Sweet!!!! Nice sounding car now.
Love that old Chevy Robert. So glad you saved it from an otherwise bleak future. Cheers amigo.

You’re sweet for saying that 😊
I was waiting for a rat or mouse to climb up on your shoulder. LOL
Hope you continue to fix you 57 Chevy. It’s my favorite car. I hope you paint it green.
Enjoyed thanks Robert
Glad you got her going again 🎉

All The Burning That Brush Will Help Get The Rat's Down The Road No Place To Hide. 😎👍✌.
There are ultra sonic products that attach to your car’s battery, use very little current, and chase rats away.
Robert, I wish you would join the other Robert again for the cemetery videos. You two made a good team on those.

Anything you need done in most any vehicle, give him a call. If he can5 fix it. He knows who can.

You need a litter of Old Byrd farm cats to deal with those rats!!
So I hope you found a new place to keep this Chevy. Hard to believe rats 🐀 haven't found all your other vehicles. Good luck and keep on videoing
The car sounds good, I'm guessing you finally oiled that door hinge. 👍
Great job
It sucks how relentless those damn rats are on your nice old project car , are you ever gunna get it fully painted or wrapped ? And the interior finished?
Loud pipes do save lives tho ☺️
A sweet ride. Get ya some rat traps.
You said in reference to the "rat crap," I don't know where it came from? The back end of a rat: you might have a stowaway?
"I just scratched the paint" :D
It s time to get rid of the rats!
I do love watching your videos, they make me laugh, and admire your tenacity. Do you have MOT tests in the USA? I worry about the safety of driving that Chevy; no seat belts, and more holes than Emmental cheese. Are you going to install air bags etc?
Omg❗Rats ⁉️
Sounds good..
The rat could be living in the upper back seat.
the cloth interior knocks down the interior noise, along with the insulation and padding,
do you have a heater core in the 57? do you have the electric motor for the heater assembly ?
the waste could have come from the back seat area , Rats & mice do not like peppermint,
if you soak cloth with peppermint oil, it is a good repellant , the smell lasts about a month,
then you will have to re dose the cloth. get a rat trap, bate with peanut butter with a hemp string.
that way they are not able to just lick off the bate, they hit the string and bite! snap! good luck!
What about your other vehicles that have been parked on the old byrd farm? Do you think the mice have chewed on the wires also?
No, I have checked. I think the smell of diesel deters from the truck
Well one BIG question Robert, where are you going to keep this car so it won't get eaten by rats again???
Aw, 'cmon, run straight headers! Or melody pipes? Or glass paks?
It was sooooo loud 😅
Nice!
I hope you can get rid of the rats.
Put some moth balls in that car. It will stop the rodents😮

put a trap where you saw the rat droppings, put it across the path you think it will take. I trapped a lot of rats getting in my car.
You can fix anything! You need to get a cat, let it sleep in the car at night. I fear the rats will be back. 😩
put a rat trap in the trunk. bait with peanut butter
I love animals but rats and mice destroy so much. I used to use live traps, but they returned right away when I put them outside. I would try essential oil, but put snap traps in and around your car with peanut butter. Barn cats are good also but watch that they don't go after your wild birds. Check your other vehicles and camper. Mice are probably in everything!
This is the only one that has shown it
why do rat chew wires. they chewed the wire on my space heater so It failed and froze my water line (this winter)
I dunno, other than they are little jerks
spray with Frebreeze the rats don't like the smell
Set a trap in the car for that mouse or rat.
Vote Kanye! Things that make you go hmmmm!
🤣🤣🤣
Maybe you still have a rat or maybe the new crap is from parts of car you couldn't get to with vacuum cleaner and it just fell out when you started driving it down the road. That girl needs a paint and body job.
🤔😱😮👍🇺🇸
I would rather listen to a loud car then those annoying guinea.
Wisteria or rat crap...🤔🤔🤔
Might have to put rat poison out
Remove the UPPER part of the back seat, and look for your rodent problem in it....
