    Hi Jason, great video. It's great to see all the different manufacturers decks side by side. There really is a big difference. I have not yet tried a ship, but hope to soon. I will definitely refer back to this video when I am deciding on which deck to purchase. Thanks for sharing. Jeff

      @@ModelkitStuff I sure will Jason, I've been looking, probably a 1/350, WWI or WWII. I have already spent the budget, so it will probably be a little while. Thanks, Jeff

    Great review Jason. I have a Scaledecks deck for my Titanic and it is cut out of register with the printing, so the mahogany boards around the edge of the deck are all over the place. My biggest bugbear with all these decks is the way they stagger the planking so you end up with a grid pattern, whereas in reality the but joint at the end of each plank would not be so even. It's worth noting that Tamiya and Hasegawa use Pontos for their decks.

    I have a Minicraft, Titanic, in 1/350 scale. What would you recommend I use? I’m an advisor car modeler, have also done a bunch of 1/48 scale WWII bombers, but I’ve had the Titanic kit for about 15 years now, and really want to get it started. I’m also interested into finding some photo etch for it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

      is it the Minecraft Titanic? for etch look at toms model works they cover it all and shipyard works decks are what I have, definitely worth getting the Master turned brass masts to

    Great video as usual, just started the Heller 1/100 victory and looking for wooden decks, found some on Ebay for £100 , that's a bit out of my price range but I do them as the plastic decks are missing from the kit , I can scratch build but would be easier using one these wooden decks as a template, waiting to hear back from Heller but I got the kit last year on Amazon. Keep up the good work.

      I'd check out Harry Houdini's Prince Louis (classic Airfix 1/144) YT build. He's uses a set that breaks down into individual planks, which he then lays in the correct (or a correct) deck pattern, by cutting the planks to length. To my eye, the finished effect is very pleasing on the eye, although it needs some weathering (which Harry hasn't got to yet).

    Great comparison vid. Wish you would have done it about 3 weeks ago! Just bought a Scaledecks set for my Arizona. I based that off of Ben's build over on Midwest Model Shop. Fortunately, there are several videos on installing these decks, as well as all the others so I knew what I was getting into. I think the one positive of the Scaledeck install is (maybe) you have a little adjustment time. The adhesive type, as you pointed out, gives you a couple attempts before it starts coming apart. Oh well, it's all a learning curve. Has anyone used the KA Models decks? Was curious about the quality of those. Thanks Jason!

    Good afternoon Jason
    I have only used pontos upgrade kits so the deck comes with the kit. I live in a semi tropical part of the world and the issue I have is the deck lifts so not sure if it is the humidity or the way I apply the deck

    • @ModelkitStuff
      @ModelkitStuff  2 года назад

      Hi Paul, without seeing whats going on its difficult to say. When I have had issues with the deck lifting in the past it has come down to me not fitting it properly. The answer is lots of test fitting first. Once the deck is down go round it with something like a tooth pick and gently ensure its pushed down in all the edges. Basically if the deck pos up in the first day or so its definitely a fit issues if it happens after a while, it still could be a fit issue but also could be adhesive failure. The other thing to check before you apply the deck is that your plastic deck is completely clean and grease free including mould release agent.

      If it is ok I will email some photos to you and you can have a look. When I applied the deck I went over it with the end of a paint brush to make sure the deck was applied to all surfaces

    Jason. Thanks for this. I've never used one yet (although I have one for a 1/350 Graf Spee). I'll have to pay close attention when you next use one and then look at the end effect. I agree with you that the "winner' you picked looks to be one of the betters ones reviewed. But for me, even that one didn't appear to have much to any tonal difference across the deck. None of them look - at least in this form - that realistic, which I think means that all of the decks will need to be stained (painted) in some way to look realistic.

    • @ModelkitStuff
      @ModelkitStuff  2 года назад +1

      at 1/350 the planks would only be a pen line thick it will never be accurate and to scale whatever you do. which Graf spee do you have?

    The problem with these decks is that they look like new. No manufacturer has thought to make faded mission ship decks. Is there a washing technique? This is for the moment the negative point of these terraces compared to the painting. There are a multitude of washing products but only new terrace decks!

    • @ModelkitStuff
      @ModelkitStuff  2 месяца назад

      you can seal and was decks easy enough. its not the only negative your raising the deck over the detail the small the scale the worse it is. but this video was focused on comparing manufacturers not general pros and cons

      @@ModelkitStuff You did not understand my remark. I am not talking about advantages or disadvantages, I am talking about realism. No manufacturer ultimately makes realistic wooddeks since they all seem to come out of the new deck store and do not take into account the weather and aging of the wood in these conditions.
