- A short tribute to the Planet Earth and the the people that inhabit it. Edited by GrahamboProductions. Song: Baba Yetu by Christopher Tin. Most clips are from the BBC series' Planet Earth and Human Planet. I do not have the rights to any of this content, including the song, and am not associated with BBC, Tin Works Publishing, or any of their affiliates. Feel free to post this on your blog or any website you want.
It's a prayer from the middle-east written by a jew (regardless of whether it was Jesus or someone that came later), translated into swahili, and set with european orchestration, by a chinese composer living in america. How does this not represent a wide swath of humanity?
Also it was written an performed for a large media franchise, funded by a large corporation.
Cheaptastic Productions The Soweto Gospel Choir, who sang the lyrics, is also from South Africa.
Cheaptastic Productions the lyrics are in swahili, a language originating from eastern africa.........
its the greek prayer to the lord translated into swahili.
Hej
Whenever I listen to this I wanna burst into tears.
I want to go and spread joy and enjoy my day and hope everyone else does regardless of what they believe in.
NinjaCakeAssassin : You are not alone, you are not.
I am no Christian, and I am no speaker of Swahili, whether native or not. And yet, when I concentrate on the video while listening to the song, I just WANT to burst into tears. Just to celebrate the Universe and All that is in.
Am am kenya in german feel like huggin the world!!!
I understand why!
That statement is one of factors that defines Christianity!
This seems to me like a video we'd use to postulate Earth as the host for some interplanetary Olympics,
Now that's an idea !
It also looks like promotional videos for Travelling. Sorta like "Visit Earth 3028" promotional videos.
You don't be prostituting no earth! ya hear?!
Earth 2100! 😂
Yes, and let's extend it to convince them more to let us join the Interplanetary Nations
All rise for the national anthem of Earth and the human race.
DisgruntledViewer I'm not sure that half the world wants to use "The Lord's Prayer" as their anthem.
Gavin Golden i think that half is whats wrong with the world.
Gavin Golden the half that doesnt lol. Just clarifying
Christian Saldana How incredibly closed minded of you.
Dynamiklol no its my open mindedness that allows me to see that.
This should be humanity's anthem
Absolutely! The Lords prayer would make a great anthem for the world!
This song is transcendent. It is the best candidate for a hymn representing all of humanity and Earth as a whole. It doesn't require belief in a god despite the words being the lord's prayer. I'm not a believer but the song itself is glorious. I wish it played at my funeral, as it hits all the right notes in me.
I couldn't agree more, + 1000 !
I wish other people saw it the same way as you D;
I know it's been 6 years, but this just shows how beautiful this video is that we can still come back to this whenever we feel we need it. Now my comment -
Christopher Tin, the composer, actually responds to comments very responsively, and he said in one that he is actually advising the United Nations for music. I couldn't think of a better person for doing this.
I don't think he was there when the current hymn was made, because that one while all music of course has its beauty, doesn't hit the right feels for a whole humanity hymn.
The earth is beautiful.
The natural is beautiful.
The human is beautiful.
The culture is beautiful.
The Life is beautiful...
Praise God
'The human is beautiful.' - have you seen James Corden?
Can't stop listening to this song. .especially that our country Kenya is going through this tough moment..I pray that God will strengthen us and protect us. .MAY THE INNOCENT SOULS WE LOST REST IN PEACE. .AMEN
Brenda Luande Have a strenght and faith, I'm sending you much love from Poland!
StrzechaWlosow I appreciate your love and kindness and more so your prayers..God's blessings
***** thanks so much, God be with you too
Brenda Luande Unfortunately the concept of God is half the reason Africa and the Middle East are in perpetual turmoil.

Some in these comments are saying this is an ode to earth, while the song is an ode to God. Personally, to me this song, and this video, together seem as if asking for blessing upon all the ventures of man upon this beautiful planet. Whether you be atheist or christian, muslim or jew, and so many more, it is impossible to not acknowledge the incredible beauty of this creation (even should you believe it is the creation of the universe and not God), and I think it is a glorious thing to call upon a higher power in blessing and praise for all our success and advancement.
For through our conflict,s our pain, our sorrows, our joys and happiness we have achieved and moved forward, survived and thrived. Through billions or lives and an unfathomable amount of thoughts, emotion, death, and life, we have reached the day we are in today (hence why I loved the shots of the modern world I believe they were just as fitting as video of tribal peoples). Humanity truly is a beautiful.
Good sir/madam, if I may, I'd like to like to link you to something one of my friends wrote on DeviantArt that has a similar theme to it: imepsilon119.deviantart.com/art/On-Humankind-s-Ascent-to-the-Stars-479171103
EpsilonCrew It asks for my dream, my vision. I can't really look upon the world it supposes as beautiful, but I have no doubt that if we continue, a world very much like it shall exist. So many people, filling the sky of so many stars. Peace and tolerance, whatever those words mean, shall not be in abundance though.
Indeed, if history is any teacher, we shall not be respected by many. We shall be looked down on and scorned. It shall not matter though, for as backwards as we may seem to them, we shall be those who they came from. Amid the same pain, anguish, and death that we experience now, they shall continue our hopes and our dreams. They will be, just as we are now, humans. So even through our hate, and also through our love, we shall continue.
Thus a great saga will continue that has been ongoing for millennia.
You are a good and wise man
We need more people like you in the world.
let all put down the pain and hate of there comings and goings , and just for one moment , a simple tiny moment in time . have peace .
My god, Baba Yetu is just the most incredible piece of music. I have been unable to stop listening to it for three days.
CHRISTOPHER TIN WHAT HAVE YOU DONE
When interviewed of his mission to the moon and looking back to see the earth, Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell said:
"You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics looks so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, 'Look at that, you son of a bitch.'"
You don't even have to leave the planet for that. Talk to anyone whose job it is to provide for humanity as a whole: military, police, firefighters, medical personnel (doctors, nurses, EMS, dentists, etc), teachers... I guarantee each one of them, at some point in their career, had a moment of clarity and realized all these dividing lines are arbitrary and foolish. One planet, one people.

Then that EMT got hit over the head and mugged by a black man for his sneakers.
Imagine how stupified Edgar would have been had instead of looking back, he looked out and saw the universe itself. Probably would have just pulled out his oxygen tube at how insignificant and pointless it all is.
@@hohenzollern6025 Every once in a great while, yeah, people attack EMTs. But usually the staff and snake provide us some measure of protection.
@@hohenzollern6025 And that would've made him want to build a safer society instead of pointing fingers and crying about it like a manlet on the internet. There is a flow within people that pushes them on to deal with the status quo or to rise above it. Even without looking at this planet from the moon. Which will you live to tell you next of kin you are?
This song makes me love this goddamn planet......
Swahili is such a beautiful language.
its towards the top of languages i want to learn list
Okay, i'm gonna say it.
This video is my all time favorite youtube video for many reasons, but the most important is that i can always come back to it if i'm feeling especially cynic.
Whenever i feel sick of and saddened by mankind i keep coming back to it. It makes me feel child-like wonder and amazement even after seeing it so many times. I just get reminded that while the human race may be mostly terrible, this planet is still a one-in-a-quintillion ball of beauty. So thanks for not letting me lose it, Grahambo.
This video gives me goosebumps and like you said it is a good counterweight for cynicism.
how can anybody hate a group of people man, having different people in the world is beautiful. Man life should just be love
The Lord's prayer is actually more beautiful as a song and in Swahili. It's beautiful on it's own already, but this song really brings it out :)
I am now convinced that Swahili is God's language.
All human languages are God's language. Each language defines our uniqueness as humans and separates us from the beasts!
step 1. everyone in the world watches this video
step 2. everyone admits that every thing on this planet is beautiful
step 3. stop fighting. fix our problems. pay our debts to this majestic planet
Step 0. Everyone gets internet
if i had the money id be running around africa with a big projector playing this video in 10,000p
id bring plenty of food too of course...
Matt Damon YOU'RE MATT DAMON. *HOW DO YOU NOT HAVE THE MONEY?!*
matt damon is poor as fuck
Partially :P
The theme of the great story that is us.
All of us. The story of me, of you, of our parents, and of our children. For then, for now, and forever.
A story set in a land where the sun never sets and the night is always young. A story of the planet that gave birth to us, that raised us, that always did its best for us, and that brought us this far... no matter how many times we proved we didn't deserve it.
A story of songs passed from mother to child, of crowns passed from kings to princes, and of legends passed from chieftains to younglings. Of glorious conquests and friendships forged. Of constructing glorious cities from dust and legacies etched in the oldest of stone.
A story still yet being written.
Swahili:
Baba yetu, yetu uliye
Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina!
Baba yetu, yetu, uliye
Jina lako litukuzwe
English:
Our Father, who art our
Our heaven, our, amen!
Our Father, Our Hallowed
Hallowed be thy name
Just remember that it was through the sheer will of man that we were able to create a society, a civilization that was able to overcome some of our most basic animal instincts. While we may be troubled and may be growing as a species, it is a journey that we all live through, and hopefully one day we can all recognize that the hope of mankind is not in God, not in any being beyond, but that it lies within ourselves. We have the power and the ability to move beyond our evils and vices and create a planet that we can all call home. That is why I am proud to be human!
matt parenti Amen
We humans are truly a fascinating species.
that is so amazingly witty . . did you think of that line yourself?
Brendan Feay except for you . .
This makes me wanna pray and bless this world, for everyone to see how precious life is
Look! This is Earth! So big and so different! So nature and so urban, so fast and so slow, so clean and so dirty, somewhere there are lot's of people, and somewhere nobody lives, somewhere everything is made by people, and somewhere the nature has made everything for us. But everything everywhere is so beautiful! Here is live, here are people! Look at this amazing video and start enjoying your live!
we have seen the extremes of this world. but still there is one place we live on...earth...which is overflowing with richness which are God' s gifts to human race....we have the responsibility to cultivate and treasure them...thank you Lord Almighty!
Poor Earth....
For your greatest inhabitants have scorched and covered you in blood for millions of years....
Poor Drew, you have no idea how life works . . . too brainwashed by Disney movie endings . . .
Drew Henkhaus That crazy bitch, mother nature tried to kill us since day one!
First by trying to starve us out, so we hopped off the trees started to walk on two legs, then by predators and we made spears to kill the critters, an Ice age happened but it was too late, we had already migrated throughout the globe and begun forging small primitive communities.
Not even plagues nor natural disasters could remove us. Soon, there'll be a human on each and every one of those stars in the night sky.
Tarik360 ... Getting revenge on nature will only destroy us. As we are part of nature.
Heathco.MD
Oh I did not say we should get our revenge, I simply stated that we should grow.
Tarik360 by calling Nature a horrible beast
This is an epic and fantastic song! A real tribute and symbol of earth and our species.
Baba yetu, yetu uliye (our Father who is )

Baba yetu, yetu, uliye (our Father, who is)
Jina lako litukuzwe ( HALLOWED BE your name )
justun chan its swahili right?
yes it is, an absolutely beautiful language
I honestly think this is a better use of Baba Yetu than Civilization 5's use of it.
You are the funniest person here.
Ald Rhun not really
i find both to be excellent uses (in equal standing)
civ's use showcases the history, and rise of Human civilization
while this one shows off the beauty of the earth itself
NerdLink not in civ 5 :(
It's not in Civ 5, that was the joke.
I was complementing Arthus850's use of cynicism.
Ald Rhun Actually it was a legit mistake, but I guess it works as a joke to.
1:12 That's where the nukes are stored.
Why would Gandhi use Buddhist monks to hide his nukes?
It was a joke.
Bradley McDaniel That too was just a joke.
Bradley McDaniel Nice
This flew right over the head of non-Civ fans
Seeing this makes me marvel at the beauty and majesty of God's creation.
Can't tell whether serious, or troll looking for flame war.
BlizzardDoesn'tOwnSkeletons Baba Yetu is the Lords Prayer in Swahili. He has every right to associate the song with God. You see Mother Earth, we see the person the prayer was talking to.
Hmm, valid point.
MrFlamesFan12 While I might not share the same beliefs as you, we can both agree on how beautiful the universe is. :)

2020 here, still the best song I've ever heard. Strength to all!!
just listen to civ vi song, this is civ iv theme song :)
If any extraterrestrials happen to stumble upon our tiny blue rock, show them this.
👌👍
they already know the song
That is extraterrestrial being perceive wound in the same way as we do, which is unlikely. Same with watching that movie, or the whole existanse itself. Maybe they have more cords in their eyes, which means they can see colours we cannot even imagine. I'm sorry for being a dickhead.
Extraterrestrials will know this song, because Jesus would have taught them already.
It would be a great Tourism ad campaign.
wow ... bei dem Lied bekomm ich sowieso Gänsehaut aber mit den Bildern Ö.ö
einfach ein WOW-Moment

the sceneries is breathe taking, so beautiful
Amidst of all the violence and hate, it's nice to see the beauty of our world every once and awhile. This video really brightens the day after watching news about mass murders and war. It reminds that our world is not all that horrible it would seem.
Thanks for this.
I heard this a decade back. Still got tears when I listened today
you know why this should be the anthem of earth. because you can feel the beauty of the earth in this song and the legacy humans have created.
the clip at 2:50 is footage from a helicopter of a tribe in the amazon rainforest that hasn't been contacted by the modern world. the people standing next to that hut have literally no knowledge of when the rest of the world looks like and what our technology is like.
Do you know where i can find more information on this tribe?
*****
Information is incredibly sparse as the general consensus amongst scientists and the government (I believe in Brasil, as it's in the Amazon) was to leave them alone.
Thedutchjelle
Yeah, i found a little footage of the whole fligth footage thing and a little info, but not much.
I watch this every so often to restore my faith in this world.

This video can give everybody a chance to step back and take a breath. There are so many conflicts in this world over land, religion, and the way of life itself. This can let everyone no matter what you believe see this world in a new and glorious light. This world is true beauty.
One of my Favorite videos on RUclips .........Fantastic job
I fucking love the human race and our planet called Earth
....that's what I just wanted to say :D
Too bad we're ruining earth :P
Captain Kruk
Yea ik
+Captain Kruk mm hmm
i love our planet but i wish humans didn't exist
This song makes me proud to be a human being
This video was such an eye opener, as to how much we, as humanity, have destroyed and taken for granted what was given to us. Thank-you for uploading a great video such as this one.

Perfect anthem for Earth and Civilization. Should be played at the end of the world.
Truly interesting and amazing song for a truly interesting and amazing species. No matter how badly we hurt this world we are truly a fantastical work of nature. We are nature's to picked and hand crafted species on Earth out of many that could have ruled instead of us. Truly amazing, this should be the anthem for Humanity, if we meet an alien species play this over loud speakers.
this world would be perfect without humanity. the continual destruction of everything in this world is a testimant to that. how many hundreds of species have we extinguished from the world and continue to do so in the name of living forever and greed. we are nature's only mistake.
Adam Ward But, imagine this, if we did not come to power then no doubt eventually some other species would and they would probably be the same way as us. Species just evolve to want more and more because they cannot suit themselves with what they have. Life is a mistake in itself, or, a great, complex system. It's your decision.
I agree that another species may have eventually evolved in the same way although I doubt they would be like us. Almost every other species in this would does not suffer from the same sense of expansion and greed as humanity does. Nature has a sense of balance in all things. More prey creates more food for predators which increases their numbers, once prey have reduced numbers predators have reduced numbers with reduced food. This has been the case for millions of years, a perfect balance. All species apart from humans do not actively destroy the environment around them. Human behaviour is more similar to that of a parasite rather than primate.
Adam Ward Nature has a sense of balance, a species as evolved as us does not abide by nature, yet we tend to make nature abide to our rules. This would most likely be what happens to any other species that becomes like us in a mental and technological sense. Though you make a good point.
+TheNerd I like the way you think, at least someone who isn't spitting on our specie!
There are two people in this world: Those who listen to the music and those who can feel it. I pity everyone who counts to the first mentioned category. This song brings me to tears regulary and you know what? I am thankful for this! Not because I am a religious person, but because I can truly appreciate what sound and music can give you.
I will admit, this did help restore my faith in humanity a bit. Thank you.
the song is stolen from a game named sid meiers civilization 4
I know.
the very best - thank you!!!
I can't believe that some people's are not interrested in our earth ;(
But you aren't, you're exploring assassin's creed =/
Get rekt lol
This song is one of the few songs, that can make me shed a tear. It is so beautiful and heartfelt. This is pure singing, and it sounds like a dream. Excellent song.,
how do u not cry watching this?
My favourite song ever.
Is my best too
who would unlike this?
those who played the game :)
Dragos Dimancea the games great.
It often comforts me to think that even in a wars darkest days.
In most places in the world, absolutely NOTHING is happening.
We are all human. Best Song ever.
Considerably better than the official Civ IV video for it. That one was cheesier, more forced.
Samuel Goldie And 50% of that trailer consisted of murica.
Tlevids Yeah, which felt like a really disingenuous move to secure American interest in the game. Come on, guys! America isn't the only country in your game!
Cultural victory FTW!
But seriously this is a really really great song :)
It's things like this that make me feel so wonderful about the world. Scientists know that we make up such a small part of the universe, but what a hell of a part it is...
This makes you realise how amazing we are, how amazing everything is. It makes you realise how wonderful our world is, and how amazing our creations and what we've done are.
Why are there even dislikes? They dislike planet earth? lol
Aliums
The progression of the music doesn't fit with the video.

don't want the music and video to end 😣
I'm not a religious person at all, and I don't care if this is the lords prayer. But still, it is the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I hope we can realise that we are living together in this beautiful planet.
I hope we can realise the true potential of mankind, to live being one with earth, and achieve incredible things. This should be Mankind's anthem, but a unified mankind, where there are no nationalities, only one race. Man
I first heard this song as the intro to Civ4. I always let the intro run through just to hear this. Finally, my brain unlocked and I realized it would be on UTube and sure enough. And i must say, of the many versions on UTube this one is my favorite to listen to. Thanks most kindly for posting this, Graham.
A very good use of the Lord's Prayer. That's what this is, only in Swahili. The Catholic version, no less.
I masturbate while worshiping Satan to this song. :)
AlonePopTart As a Christian I laughed so hard at this :D
AlonePopTart
Whether or not you do (you don't), it is still a Christian prayer set to song and sung in Swahili.
Nonamearisto He wasn't denying that it's a Christian prayer or that it's sung in Swahili. He merely stated what he does while listening to the song, in an effort to make a joke.
Nonamearisto Christian or not, it's an amazing song!
Humanity. 3rd from the sun.
What an amazing place this is. And how adaptable this humanity of ours is. Thank you for displaying it in the fullest.
E' meraviglioso ascoltare la voce , rappresentando la bellezza della natura !!!
The Lord's Prayer in Swahili xx
A tribute to Epicness.
I watched this video several times and plan to view it many more times. It is very moving and almost spiritual (as a friend described it). You did a fantastic job of editing and piecing together this gorgeous footage and the music is beautiful as well. I cannot describe how much I enjoyed this. Wonderful. Thank you for your talent and efforts.
I'm not a Christian, but praise the creator of all this; praise the one who makes the long, beautiful march of life happen.

very cool :)
I don't care WHAT the song says - the video is beautiful, mind boggling, WONDERFUL! Thank you!

Donald Trump needs to watch this video
He'd probably like it, it's quite a powerful message.
Blaze MacArthur you misunderstand, he needs to watch this so he doesnt destroy the earth with his stupid coal factories
Billy Bob How would watching this make him change his policy on coal-generated power? I watched this, I liked it, but it isn't going to inspire someone to change their political beliefs in and of itself; *especially* in regards to the "global warming" issue.
Blaze MacArthur Donald trumpet definitely would not be changed by this, i am just saying it is amazing to see how beautiful this world is and how sad it is that we are destroying. My comment was basically saying that Donald trump isn't really helping that right now.
Billy Bob Well, I agree with you to a certain extent. Out of necessity, out of negligence or simply out of greed, the natural world has been eroded due to human meddling. It goes without saying that we need to preserve what we can while we can; I just don't see why we must politicize the issue, but as it involves a lot of emotions, I can see why it would lead to that.
Right now, it's more economically beneficial to burn coal instead of implementing comparatively expensive and inefficient equipment. Trump has his own priorities in running the country and focusing on its own citizens. While your cause seems conceptually just and is one I can certainly agree with, I don't see how you expect Trump to put most of his focus into reducing carbon emissions at the moment.
To be honest, I originally thought you were referring to the many different peoples displayed in the video and thought you were trying to suggest Trump should watch this to gain more respect for other cultures. This is what I was ready to respond to you regarding.
This is a beautiful film and a tribute to little known places around the planet. Nature knows no religion. No need to clutter such an inspiring video with arguments. Thank you.
Here sits a child of the age of 13.Wondering...Watching...Marveling at the magnificence of this world...And reflecting on the previous worlds that he had marveled at before this life.

Goosebumps all over.
Beautiful. Simply beautiful. Our world is such a beautiful place and this song fits in so well.
It's a shame and a pity that hateful comments are ruining this marvelous piece of work. But I guess there's an ironic beauty in hatred as well as it is a part of humans and humans are a part of the world.
When I listen to this music, all I want is to look for a nice choir and join. Music heals the soul.
After watching this video, I can't stop smiling, and I don't want to stop.
