    I like the garmin website. It is so complicated that a normal person cannot possibly manage their device without assistance. That really decreases the amount of competition I have in the field with my guide business. DON'T CHANGE A THING!

    For the cheapest route I chose the annual safety plan. You can send unlimited checking/preset messages to one or more recipients That Include Your Location. You just need to set it all up before you leave. Then save your free 10 messages for later and any extra messages are $0.75 each. Off course this all means limited back and forth messaging to keep your cost down. It just depends how much you want to chat vs cost, and for me sending my location a couple of times a day is fine. Everyone is going to have there own thoughts I know.

      Maybe a silly question but since you’ve set up this service and have the experience… I’m looking at going on a camping trip tomorrow. If i purchase this device and set up the inreach service tonight will it be ready for use by then? I don’t know if there’s any latency in the setup.

    Question. Say I have the annual basic plan. synched with the app on my phone. Then say my wife is going out w out me, can she download the app and use it in the same manner, meaning using the text messages, not the SOS, or would she also have to have my phone?

    Was about to buy but seen you changed to checkin messages which mean you lose

    Is there a way to use it just for emergency communications? I do not really need to communicate with anyone while I am in the wilderness. I am in the wilderness to get away from it all!

    If I choose the annual safety plan am I able to track back to my starting point, say my car or camp without any additional charge? “Tracking points refer to the individual "breadcrumbs" sent by the inReach at user-selected intervals ranging from 10 minutes to 4 hours.”

      Thank you for your question. Yes, the trackback routing feature is part of the GPS functionality, separate from the inReach subscription.

      You don't even need a satellite communicator for that. You can do this just using the GPS from your phone

      it's nice to have a device which by default lasts 14 days that can do trackbak, and not having to rely purely on your phone which could last less than a day depending on tempature and how dumbly/smartly you are using it. @@user-zi8jn1go8k

    If I have the safety plan, is any amount of tracking free?

      I second this question. If I wanted to do Track Intervals every 10mins throughout the day would this cost me 10p (uk) every 10 mins.

    Do you need this to use the radio on a Garmin tread? Seems like it’s impossible to set that up can you make a video on how to use the group ride radio?

      100% I agree, SOS only plan would be great! to be honest it should come default free SOS only plan, but I don't mind paying small charge. that's all I need.

      @@kristaps2010you could get something like a Resqlink PLB. No subscription needed. Granted you can’t send messages but activating that will send your exact location out and if they cannot reach you by phone when you activate it they will send help. I have an EPIRB for my boat which is similar just less portable.

    400 dollars and still gotta pay a subscription. Lame. Is it true Garmin doesn’t pay for use of these satellites? If Garmin does make payments I could understand a little more.

    • @user-zi8jn1go8k
      @user-zi8jn1go8k 10 месяцев назад +10

      There's a subscription on all of these GPS communicators, because they all have to connect to Iridium satellites and Iridium is a 3rd party company which requires payment from Garmin for sending & receiving data.
      Still shady of Garmin to have some kind of 'activation' fees on top of the subscription.
