The version I'm most familiar with is Simon & Garfunkel's cover, though I must say Red's cover is one of the better ones imo; she does a good job capturing a bittersweet and melancholy vibe that a lot of other covers miss.

I read this book in my senior year, when my history class was covering WWI. Yeah, it's depressing and gives you a modicum of what the soldiers went through.
