been thinking a lot of the same things lately. i’m in my senior year of undergrad and have always planned to head to med school thereafter. only, i have always had qualms about the sacrifice you make to the very things you mentioned in the pursuit of something “great”. at the end of the day, i think it comes down to you as a person and what you deem to be great within reason of knowing yourself, as you mention. it’s about understanding what you want out of life most and making the necessary sacrifice. for me, i’d rather travel, pursue music, art, photography, etc and be ok with accepting that i wont fulfill my dream of becoming a doctor. at least not now. there is always tomorrow until there isn’t. it’s about enjoying today in whatever way that makes you happy. the grass is always greener until you hop the fence
just wanted to chime in as a second year med student. i love that you've figured out what makes you happy. there were definitely sacrifices that I had to make, which included cutting off some hobbies like photography, learning languages, or playing the piano. these days, all i have time for is bodybuilding and building up my primary youtube channel because my other free time is siphoned into research and clubs. i do always wonder what life would've been like on the other side, if i had chosen not to pursue med school. i think i would've enjoyed either path just as much but i definitely do regret not being able to engage in the humanizing hobbies.
I like to think that if you focus on figuring out what you want (knowing you can't have it all) what you want and like will filter into the world in the right way, so focus on yourself and not what others think
You and I are in very similar situations in life. Like you I quit my job to try to start my own business but am finding myself in the same situation as you… keep your head high and continue reflecting. I’ve found through reflection I’ve been able to cope with these issues.
Very impactful video brother Just one question for you. Don't you feel like a person who gave up when you say Musk and Jobs are just built different and accept it. I always think about it. If I choose normal life it'll mean I gave up Your opinion is really interesting for me
I think what I meant by Jobs and Musk are built different is that their work passions perhaps outweigh their desire for the things that come with a normal life (family time, hobbies etc.) so for them it is an easy decision but for most of us we can't decide which is more important (content vs hardo etc.)
I feel that normal varies from who you ask, sure I'm 25 living with my mom, I'm back in college after being in construction for a while. That said, I lived abroad since I was 17 till I was 23, and boy were there hickups. Point is, life moves differently for each and everyone of us.
I feel exactly like this

unless you let someone else dictate it for you
