This is the absolute best instructional video for collie ear bracing. Use Japanese tape and follow instruction to a T. Make sure ears are clean and dry before taping. I usually cut all the pieces needed and put them on the bar of his grooming table so I can pick one at a time to fix the ears easily. Takes a while to do this, but results are excellent.

I leave them taped until they loosen up. Then take them off and watch for a couple of days to see how they are doing. Varies from dog to dog, just keep taping until they stay down.

A third of the ear should flop naturally, A Collies ear is not meant to be upright, it is natural protection when the dog is working in harsh weather conditions!!

@@marielinmunroe3087 Do you cut or style your hair? Do you dye it? Do you have any piercings? Tatoos? Have you given yourself a manicure? Pluck your eyebrows, shave yourself anywhere? On chemical birth control of any kind? If you do anything to yourself that alters or changes your body in any way, do you really have any rational argument that validates your objection to training the growth habit of puppy ears while they're still soft and malleable? I don't think you do. Rethink your objection on the basis of what things you might do to alter your own body.

Thank you for the excellent video instruction! I'm looking at taping my Sheltie's ears. His ears were perfect until he started teething and then, as you said, helicopters set in! He is six mos. as of today and has longer, less thick ears. We're going to give it our best shot. I'm hoping he's still a good candidate at his age.

Very concise presentation. I was quite interested in the long term effects which you touched on just a bit at the end. My rough collie is 8 weeks so she’s in the market for some ear taping. I have had two collies over the years but each was already an adult when I got them and both had great ear presentation.

Does it not count as cheating? Rough collies' ears should be tipping naturally, totally erect ears are a disqualifying fault as far as I know. As this is an inheritable genetic trait taping would mask the fact in the show ring, that the dog has a fault.

I'm ready to give up. I'm using your method to tip my blue merle rough collie's ears. He will be five months old this coming week. The tips of his ears aren't lifting at all. When the tipping comes out the base of his ears are up but the whole upper part tips over like a younger puppy. If I let the ears rest for a day or so the base of his ears drops too. Is this normal?

It's not cropping. Nothing harmful is done to the dogs ears. It doesn't bother them, so how is it cruel? And they are not straightened, they are folded as per the breed standard. Don't like it, then don't do it.
