I watched a Big Rig race from the pits at Atlanta Raceway around this time. They had HUGE tire issues that day. Blown tires so often it sounded like 4th. of July !

It actually made me sad watching this. Kids coming up today are so coddled. Imagine telling any of those guys you need a mask to go in to buy your 12 pack of Oly and cigarettes.

@@danokerr9929 I've had it with people bitching about danger. Danger is part of the fun, as far as I'm concerned I want rocket car metal death racing, where a deathless race is an aberration, not the norm. People are too fucking coddled, and in a world of forced safety, codes, regs, red tape, and bullshit, life just is not worth living. There is no adventure, no novelty, no excitement. A safe life is a life not worth living.

I went to several of these in the 80’s. My dads company had a W-9 with a 903 they raced. So much fun watching from the infield, on top of a truck trailer or from the stands... loved every minute of it!!!

These guys have bigger balls and crazier then modern day semi truck oval racing. I got chance to race a semi oval track truck at Bristol motor speedway and at my home track huge high bank exact copy of old Bristol layout and these things take a lot of skill to drive and don't handle like any type of racecar or limited latemodel chassis car with fiberglass nascar truck looking body on it. Driving that semi truck taught me a lot more about racing int hat short period of time. And I been racing since I was 10 and now I'm 30 and man they are a blast to drive the turbos whining and shifting was so much fun and you can bump and bang and won't get side ways very easy at all so you can use your bumper up as much as you want on someone cuse your not gonna spin or wreck them unless your really turn into them hard and through them wide open other then that beating and banging is part of it

I'm surprised the short drive shafts hold up in these monsters. I have made them for a living and sometimes UPS trucks slip on ice and pop the driveshafts right out.

My father was the public relations director for the The Great American Race , series a real old school truck driver , would not let the big corps in , they where all owner operators , that's what he told me. He's the guy waving the checker flag in the Movie Smoky and The Bandit one , in the beging drag race seen .

They have a truck touring series down here in the South it's called the big rig bandit series and they race that tracks like mobile or national speedway five flags speedway and a lot of your actual half mile asphalt tracks and sometimes a quarter mile track they erase a lot of tracks all the biggest race they did was Bristol motor speedway but they need to bring a class back like this and run places like Daytona international speedway Dover and Rockingham and all the bigger tracks that are still around like Talladega this would be awesome to see that too I know the speeds would be too high but they can modify the trucks make them work and them guys in the bandit big rig series are not afraid of using the term putting a bumper to somebody for the win I mean I've sat there and watch them take each other out there's two brothers that race each other and they wreck each other almost every race of spit each other at least once and there's a couple of young onions like 16-18 year olds which is cool I race regular race cars around asphalt tracks like pro trucks and modifieds and late models and then guys are crazy to show up in those big rig 18 wheelers and go around mobile speedway or five flags speedway or like some tracks down in South Florida as well that wide open man it's crazy on the speeds they carry in the big trucks and if you hit a wall you're going off in the stands or you're flipping cuz even the 6-ft wall at mobile speedway on the outside going on the front straightaway is it going to be tall enough in case if one of those starts to run away but they are a crazy series I wish I could see him at Daytona or a bigger super speedway type track they can make them safe enough so if they wreck it won't kill the driver
