They are precious sweet and a happy joy as they play, climb, explore, and splash. It is wonderful this care center exists to give them the chance to live yet even with the tragic loss of their mother. It is a big heart to save this joy. Thank you for all you do to help wild survive and thrive!
I'm concerned about how these bear cubs can survive through the winter for the first time on their own. Were they able to find a safe place to hibernate during their first winter in the wild?
No, Dyan, we usually never hear from the bears after they leave our facility. Generally speaking, no news is good news. During the 2015-16 rescue season, Curator Coy Blair collared and tracked 42 bears as they left our facility. He used the collar data for his Masters Degree thesis at the University of Tennessee. He studies first year survival post release, spatial use and conflict behavior. You can find his thesis on our ABR website.

Do you guys keep track of the bears after they are released to see how they are doing?
