Ray Mordt and Carel Du Plessis - agree he should have been a Bok - but who do exclude form those 2 wings which would probably be walk ins in the current Bok squad
Thanks for the support mate! We do have some footage of Australian teams in the 1980's. We'll see what we can put together at some point. Thanks for the support!
I'm 65 now and I was at Newlands that day, sitting on the Railway stand, right where Chris Pope scored the first of Western Province's two tries. That's a day I'll remember for the rest of my life.
@@peterschuetz8802 Peter, you are too kind! We have only scratched the tip of the ice berg on our channel. We literally sit with thousands of videos, so stay tuned, there is plenty more to come. Thanks so much for the support!
@@RealRugby do you perhaps have any video footage from Chris Burger who played for WP from 1974 to 1980? He tragically died after he broke his neck during a WP vs OVS match 30 Aug 1980! It's 40 years later and we would love to show his grandkids some footage! It would really mean the world to me and his daughter who I'm married to 🙏🙏
@@desmondwells274 Hi Desmond, off the top of my head, I can't think of any games I might have, but I will definitely go and dig for you. You can't help me with a list of matches that he played in? Position he played. If you can mail me some more info to werner@realrugby.co.za then it will make the search easier
@@RealRugby thanks Werner I appreciate and will speak to my mother in law and some of his old team mates to get some more info. He was an all rounder and played fly-half, centre and fullback for WP
The old Springbokpark stadium in Bloemfontein must have had the hardest pitch in rugby history. How those guys played on that week in and week out I don't know (see around 12:30).
That try against Ntvl where he dodged about 6 players. I stand corrected, but Wasn't it where he also stumbled over his own feet while running back to the halfway line. It was a fifty fifty moment. The Wp supporters in the room went bananas while the Ntvl lads got a good chuckle out of it.

Stands in stark contrast to the sh-te that the game served up in England at this time. It was a different sport. I played at London Welsh in the very late 70s and early 80s and can really lock into what is going on here. It was fun. Then Welsh rugby fell away and that was it for me. No further interest. In the 90s the English game was completely different. It took the Welsh game a bit longer, but I was an old fart by then...
@@lm_b5080 just bare in mind we did have a better win record against NZ in that era, we don't have now. So it's something to think about. I am so pleased that I grew up watching all these great Province sides
These talented men played for love of rugby and captured the imagination of their generation.
Orsum. Beautiful. The players almost seem shy after they've scored a try.
I would not have loved or even played rugby if it was not for this amazing era. Love it.
How did Neil Burger never make the Boks side- unbelievable talent
Agree, niel burger should played for springboks

Fabulous vintage back line play, with snappy halfback passing that puts today’s halves to shame.
I should add, Real Rugby is dead set the best rugby resource out there! Classic footage from way back or what!

One of the best games against the All Blacks 1976 I watch ,Carel the maestro
This has to be some of the fastest-paced Rugby I've ever seen. Thanx for the video!
Wonderful memories and Burger was so powerful.
Awesome support lines
Memorable rugby of Province.
So sad that so many of these amazing players never got to play for the Springboks.
The days of “kick and clap” rugby.
7:22 That's f**kin' unbelievable!
What a player Niel Burger was. If you haven'y seen our tribute video on him, go and look for it on our channel. He was superb

Professional men in their own right playing an amateur's game at a professional level
Goue era vir WP gewees. Geen geld was betrokke nie

Rugby was really about skill and speed not gym rats.
As a WP supporter it definetly was a great era of rugby , but apartheid messed it all up. 😌
Life would be better
i think we lost a lot of great potential springboks because of it..who knows how many other Kolisi's, Mapimpi's and Kolbe's there were in our history

I think Morne dup best nr 8 ever
It helps wearing a black white striped shirt for making good tries. Any other color or pattern proved way less successful.
