Keep up the good work. As a mechanic I have done it multiple times. Just builds character to keep going and be better. Can’t grow if you don’t fail. 👍👍
It breaks my heart seeing ya struggling without a crew and the wrong part is salt in the wound. As I would imagine you take it all in stride and still have a smile on your face!
Oops ... Well the second time around will go a lot faster, unless the red Loctite fights back 🙂 Gotta hand it to you John, you did all that while keeping an eye on the kids, good multitasking !!!
John I really miss they boys, but it's so refreshing to see how your kids and wife jump in to make it happen. Maybe it's just us upstate boys but family is always there for us.
Bottom line - You admit your error and turned it into a positive. Best learning experience is gleaned from mistakes that can be corrected. Stay positive and don't stop learning / experiencing life's challenges. Majority of us (the viewers) are rooting for your continued success. Peace.
I love watching Jon with the kids! - "I need a band-aid." - "No" Also, having the boys working with him and helping him out and learning with Dad. Dad wasn't around to teach me and I don't have the knowledge base to pass on. Jealous as a son and as a father. Thanks for leaving in the reality of the wrong parts at the end. Too many times something like that has happened to me.
If re-do time is not an issue then by all means be grateful for the learning experience. Makes you more knowledgeable about your equipment. EXCELLENT VIDEO! Thank you.
Don’t feel bad, been their! Just in front of my buddies though, not the whole RUclips world, now that’s pressure🤣. But, at least you’re honest about it and many people will not make that or similar mistake. Even in my retirement I use RUclips for the simplest, yet confounding things. Part 2 should be smooth👍.
Oops is part of the learning process an I am very proud of what I saw today. Thanks for a wonderful video an yes we must have part 2 of this. Levy you are a very hard worker well done for helping your Dad . Light an love to all the family.
You’ve got this John! Mistakes happen…learn from them and roll on. Thanks for another great video and I’ll see you on the next one. Upstate Brush Control Crew will ride again once you have the right part…
Hard to not like getting experience! These things happen to the best and you just showed that!!! Keep up the good work and thanks for taking us along you probably helped many that would have done the same thing in the future but now we all know better! J.R.
Hey John. There is a channel that I watch, and have watched for YEARS actually, Andrew Camarata, property Maintenance, and he has done this many times with all of his machinery. Learn as you grow. Was great to see your son so interested in helping you, and your kids are great, was nice that you wife was also there for a while as well. Always a blessing when the family stands behind you and supports you in what your doing and in your business. OH NO!!! wrong ones after all that work?? I feel Round Two coming up:-=).
I see that everything you do is in a rush, I think slowing down to a more understanding pace would greatly increase your positive results. I too am a contractor and I only say this because after 25 years of experience I have finally in the last 5 years learned that a steady and persistent pace well planned and executed will yield the greatest results ! Keep up the great work bud and I hope business stays steady for you guys.
Learning curve! Hey Jon, I learn more from my mistakes than everything going perfectly. It’s quite okay even though it’s aggravating and time consuming. Love that your children were there with you and learning, too. When you said, “No, you don’t need a bandaid” it sounded like my dad (😇❤️), i.e. toughen up.😉 Sadie is beautiful as is her Mom!
Impacted, Loose battery connections, think there might have been a recall on them or a replacement. I think if you go to western truck and tractor channel he was having the same issue and if I recall rightly they replaced his impact driver all together. I like the we’ll figure it out as we go thinking, nice job sir, good to see the family working together, thanks for the ride along , good video. BTW, oops, is not a mistake it is a negative learning experience, if you’re like me, I tend not to forget those anytime soon, just think how much faster it will go the 2nd time around, well till ya hit the red loctite anyway, just as a suggestion, when I loctite things in, I apply it to 1/3 the bolt surface toward the head of the bolt, remember you need to comp for the thickness of the part you bolting thru, don’t ask how I figured that out, 🙄that way if you have to heat to get it out, it’s already on the hottest part of the head, that being said, to date I have had no problems with loosening of the bolts when I have done this, but clean surface is key. Just a thought and what has worked for me past, it also makes that bottle of loctite last a little longer.
Good video. I've got a Cat mini-ex I changed the track on a while back. Did just like you and took the zerk out. Put all the force I could with the bucket to move the roller back and it barely budged. I was so confused, but then I took that zerk holder out and the grease poured out!
Got there in the end John :-) You might want to watch some of the C&C Equipment RUclips vidoes, what them boys don't know about working on John Deere Dozers isnt worth knowing & you can guarantee the way they do things is the easier (& safest) way to do it. They got a few vids changing sprockets, tracks & rollers plus a tonne of other Dozer parts.
Good video brother. Bonding time with the kids is priceless. The only she was there is to drop the kids off so she can get the house cleaned up since the messy people are out ….. lol
Sorry I just watched a 8 month old video, that's what I like to do is watch older videos only way to learn more about you and the business, it's like I watch LETS DIG IT also something satisfying watching you 2 work, haha cant explain it,but my QUESTION I have after watching the old video it was a return I guess a year later to cut again all the regrowth could they not just use ROUND UP or other brush killers to stop the regrowth when I was still working for the city where I worked for 40 years we used Round up on hillsides, alleys, flood control basins up in the mountains it worked great
Isn't life fun? You seem to be livin it to the fullest. For next time... Note to self, put shop towels underneath zert hole to catch grease. Easier clean up. Thanks for sharing the ups and down to life.
This is where you really miss the guys. At least you’re getting the experience. One thing: that thing needs a good pressure wash next time. But it’s good to see you putting out videos. One other thing - I don’t want to be you when Sadie turns 18. Your hair is going to turn bright red, then blue, then green, brown, fuchsia, purple, mauve, and finally ashen white. Meanwhile, you’ll have help when Wyatt and Levi come of age. And having Jodi with you already gives you a leg up. Glad to see you’re keeping optimistic these days. Remember, it’s only temporary.
For doing it by yourself you did a nice job.on changing the sprockets.remember you gotta do what you gotta do to get the job done.keep it up your doing a good job.keep it up.kudos 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Too bad you could't pressure wash it before disassembly. Never seen anyone change the sprocket like that. Most unbolt the pads on the track and let them fall away then use a chain hoist to pull them back together. Your way did look easier though. I'd also use anti seize on the back of the sprockets on the mating surface. Kind of like we do for rotors on your vehicle. C&C Equipment here on RUclips is the best at learning this type of work. Tough luck on the wrong amount of teeth. Most mechanics lay the old one over the new one to make sure the teeth are correct. Either way, good job brother. We'll just have to watch part two now.
Video says a lot about your character Jon. It was entirely your choice, and you chose to air this video. Shows you are not afraid to show your human imperfections. You could have chosen to never let this video see the light of day. By the way, you handled the mistake very admirably. (at least the part that wasn't edited out) 😉
I've always thought the DeWalt impact driver was better than the Milwaukee, its got a better balance, had mine for a couple of years and it's never let me down. Good on you for having a go, so you made a mistake at least you discovered it before you went off somewhere and did some work. As my dear old Mum used to say, you won't make the same mistake again! Obviously not a good one if your climbing a mountain and fall off, but you know what you mean. I wouldn't worry to much, even the best of them make a mistake, ask DP and Letsdig18, am sure they've made a few in their time, it's one of the best ways to learn.
They probably gave you 450J sprockets instead of 450H. Or there was a parts break on the 450H. I guess you didn’t feel like breaking the tracks to do this maintenance. Good video!
Been there done that and had happen to me? Give all the info to dealer or parts person, think it’s right and don’t question it? Then 💩not right. Your not the first sir nor will you be the last. Impressed that you got these done yourself? Very hard working alone but you will succeed sir.
Wintertime, the best Time the Machinery to fetch over! This Day the Bulldozer become new Sprocket. You make all alone, and it is to see You a good Mechanic. This by Your great Machinery very good. 💪👌👍 Greeting from Austria 🇦🇹
We all have to learn from our mistakes to get better. John you would be better off splitting the track at the master link when you put the new sprockets on. Especially working alone, it will make it easier on you.
Great Job. In a perfect world you did a perfect job. Lesson learned. Double check everything. Always. Helpful hint. After you finger tight the bolts. Snug bolts to secure. Then torque to specifications. I had dirt fall between my fitting. I had to do it again.
When you have those bolts that are stubborn take a hammer and give them a couple of hard whacks and usually that’ll shock them and they’ll be easier to break free 🤙🏼
If you use the hoe bucket, it's much easier to get those pushed in. I don't use lock tight on those I've only put anti stuff on it. And tork it down to what it says. It may be very hard to get off like you said. Great video. Gotta love fixing that. Oops well just know we all have done something not right. It was a great learning.
Ya um I'm responsible for the incorrect sprockets. Ordered the wrong sprockets. We did get it right and the dozer is in service. Apologies to Upstate Brush Control.
Ha, that kind of stuff happens to me all the time. Better to just laugh and fix it then get all upset and rant and rave- you will live longer. The new sprockets will go on quick and easy!
Jon, on that Milwaukee impact, if it's a recent purchase it could be one of the "B" models that they just modified and are having several problems with. There is a video on RUclips about the issues the model is having. It looks like Milwaukee was trying to cut some corners and screwed up.
Dang John! As I was watching I read the comments to see if anyone else was telling you it wasn’t a great idea to just change the sprockets if the tracks n pins are also worn. Bad on either will eat the other. Didn’t make sense why people were saying you had to redo everything? Till I saw you pull the second sprocket and just tossed it aside, I was like why didn’t he compare it to the new one? Oh well guess he did on the first one… Then the ending We’ve all done it We all learn You have a great outlook and attitude That with persistence equals success!! Head down keep charging buddy! And look at the other components so your not buying new sprockets again soon.
We all make mistakes John great to see all the family helping out 👏👏👏👍🏻

You the man, John! Get'em, buddy!
It's a good thing to show the weekend battles. Sometimes our customers have no idea what it takes to get to work on Monday.
I love watching Jon with the kids!
- "I need a band-aid."
- "No"
Also, having the boys working with him and helping him out and learning with Dad.
Dad wasn't around to teach me and I don't have the knowledge base to pass on.
Jealous as a son and as a father.
Thanks for leaving in the reality of the wrong parts at the end.
Too many times something like that has happened to me.
You did a great job even without the helping hands of your former employees which makes it all the more difficult. Kudos.
Ha! Hopefully!
Thanks Jodi for making an appearance in the video; looking forward to Part II.
Wouldn't that rock your socks! Oh well lesson learned are stored in our own university of knowledge. Lovely to see the family too John. All the best.
Hard to not like getting experience! These things happen to the best and you just showed that!!! Keep up the good work and thanks for taking us along you probably helped many that would have done the same thing in the future but now we all know better! J.R.
Only those who dare to fail greatly, can achieve greatly!!! Luv ya's from Kentucky!!!
Great to see the editor, director and crew got a part in the show!!
You always do a great job
Hey John. There is a channel that I watch, and have watched for YEARS actually, Andrew Camarata, property Maintenance, and he has done this many times with all of his machinery. Learn as you grow. Andrew is good, also C&C Equipment has good repair vids
There is nothing like Learning as You go.
Best attitude in the dirt biz!!
You had great helper today. Things happen. It almost worked. You will get it right next time & quicker too.
Everything is content, brother. I love how you keep saying "We'll figure it out." This whole business is nothing but a series of problems to solve. 😁
Ohhh, the humanity... You're a good man, John!
I see that everything you do is in a rush, I think slowing down to a more understanding pace would greatly increase your positive results. Thats how the Burns brother role. Try working with his brother LOL! Watch out 😂

Yes I love that tool. The odd sound on mine is whene tht hammer kicks in.
Got there in the end John :-)

I've learned not to use regular sockets on what needs impact sockets. I know there is a difference.
Thanks for posting your "oops". It shows you are a real person. You make mistakes. Blessings to you.
Good video brother. Bonding time with the kids is priceless. The only she was there is to drop the kids off so she can get the house cleaned up since the messy people are out ….. lol

Next time!

That was pretty dangerous work . I’m glad you got it done and didn’t end up in the ER.
Me too!
I'd threw that blue level further than that for sure. It was an awesome video. I've been there and done that. Sorry I even said it.

Wow wow wow! That is exactly something I would have done as well. Man, I feel your pain! Great attitude when you figured it out though.
Thanks!
Been there done that...good learning experience; you won't make that mistake again soon.
WOW!!!! That sucks it's not like changing the sprocket on a bicycle 😁 let's us know when you get it done,
John "We don't need Band-Aids you'll be alright!". We used to say a little spit will fix it right up.👍
Bless your heart! Ain't nothing but a thang.
I've always thought the DeWalt impact driver was better than the Milwaukee, its got a better balance, had mine for a couple of years and it's never let me down. More learning is needed always compare parts and clean your tracks daily. It will make life so much better.

Ya um I'm responsible for the incorrect sprockets. Ordered the wrong sprockets. We did get it right and the dozer is in service. Apologies to Upstate Brush Control.
It's all good! We greatly appreciate your help!!
Your the MAN! Stepped up and made it RIGHT💪
Andrew would never do this without cleaning the mud off of the machine!
Good thing I'm not Andrew.
Things happen, life goes on.
Ha, that kind of stuff happens to me all the time. Better to just laugh and fix it then get all upset and rant and rave- you will live longer. The new sprockets will go on quick and easy!
Glad to know I'm not the only one!
Very talented!!

Well, what are ya gonna do... Perseverance. I've done bonehead stuff but bullheaded persistence wins in the end.
Howdy upstate
Dang John! As I was watching I read the comments to see if anyone else was telling you it wasn’t a great idea to just change the sprockets if the tracks n pins are also worn. Then the ending
We’ve all done it
We all learn
You have a great outlook and attitude
That with persistence equals success!!
Head down keep charging buddy!
And look at the other components so your not buying new sprockets again soon.
3/4" drive will make it alot easier.
On the bright side you made some one new think to check
...LOOKIN' GOOD, NICE JOB, KEEP SAFE..(now for some fine tuning...lol..)
Ahhh Man!!!
Sometimes you just gotta laugh!
Bet the next ones go on faster!
We all learn as we go. Noone is born knowing everything.
At least you had qualified help today
Your oldest son looks like he's gonna be a good little employee one day. Dang that sucks u got the wrong sprockets.
Man...... That sucks. I hate when stuff like this happens. Still enjoy your videos even when you screw up. Haha
Hello Jodie
That's how you learn by making mistakes you'll get it
How much track adjustment did you gain. I'm hoping about 2 inches because I have no adjustment left. I can't afford to get new track chains. Thank you
Need to watch some of C & C Equipment videos. Might help you on future projects. I've seen Clint do this
What a stud!!
Atleast we got to see the wife smile lol
Awe man! Easy mistake to make. Next time will be a breeze
Need a shop manual
My daughter operates a dozer getting certified for the union.
Did you sell the shop? Or you working out of the field shop?
No, we were renting that shop and have since moved to the containers for now.
Enjoyed the video 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just asking. Don't know the answer. Why red locktite instead of antiseize.
So sorry John. But I have never used a Battery power impact before. Only Air Impact drivers Only.
They call that practice, I'll bet I heard you say I should have power washed this first.
No i have done the same thing as you !!!! parts is parts...a old man told me once!!!! i should have listened to him!!!!
It happens, I've done it. Just easier the next time.
Ya think maybe you could have cleaned up the mud on the running gear before you started
My dad used to call that a green Horn Memory
D'oh If this video wasn't free I'd ask for my money back. LoL But at least you took it like a man God had a Lesson for you that day !
👍👍👍
It was a learning experience all around, next time………..
