    My insurance classifies it as a "Small SUV," and I was like, "Alright, come on now, 'cross over' was pushing it, it's definitely not a small SUV!" I call it a hatch-back for sure.

    Ive been running one as a company vehicle for 12 months now, whilst the recent temperatures below freezing has seen a fully charges range drop to 250 miles one a full charge I have achieved 320 miles during the summer and that includes motorway travel in that. I will predominately charge via rapid 50Kw chargers where available which although at a premium rate still sees me putting less than £10 in for a 50% charge whilst shopping and I just don’t have any range anxiety at all. Daily use is short distance but I have used to do long trips as well. Even in ECO mode performance is better than most ICE cars for acceleration and overall comfort and specification is excellent.

      I'm glad to hear it! I'm lucky where I live that we never really get below 10°c.
      We've actually forgotten to plug it in overnight a couple of times and no bother. That was what stopped me getting a Soul EV or Golf EV for my 60 mile trip to work.

    I want to try a full ev vehicle. Thanks for sharing.

    I currently do not own an EV, but videos like yours are making me more and more interested in EV's. I live in a small town in SE Ohio and sometimes we doctor in Columbus which is about 110 miles on way. I have been watching the range of different EV's due to this fact. The Hyundai Kona Electric would serve us well because is can make to Columbus and back home on one charge. I like the looks of the 2018 and newer Nissan Leaf but they do not have the range we need. I also looked at the Chevrolet Bolt EV but I think for the money the Hyundai is the best buy.

      Electric cars do seem attactive enough. The problem is that if something goes wrong with your batteri, it can easily make the value of your car 0, because of how much it costs to change :(

    i owned a renault zoe with the 22kwh battery for now nearby 2 years( with the battery rent). But now i startet at Tesla Berlin and my way to work is more then double then before... so the rent for the battery also doubled... so i leased a kona for 152 euro (per month) with the 39.2KW battery... Brand new and i can charge at work (for free).. perfect for me! so thumbs up for Tesla and Hyundai!!!

    Completely agree - it’s a hatchback, as is the Niro, ID.3 & 4, Zoe, Bolt, Up... and the list goes on. A small utility vehicle or cross-anything they are not.

    I've got the exact same car on order to lease here in the UK. Been back and forth between different leaf models and this, and on paper and from all reviews I've seen this is the best ev for the money to replace a standard car for daily use with medium mileage

    • @Swallowfire
      @Swallowfire  3 года назад +2

      Absolutely. I came very close to buying a Soul EV used but pulled out at the last second. Thank goodness I did because the Kona is much better.

  • @Lewis_Standing

    Just got a kona in the UK. it's a great drive and a lovely car, went for the mid range model too. Here in the UK, it does seem like a cross over its taller than all our European hatchbacks eg. Golf, fiesta, swifts but smaller than all SUVs and similar to other crossovers like a juke / qashqai.
    I guess I'm more of an economy driver as I have mine in eco plus all the time! But it is less nippy than comfort or sport, less of an issue with two babies in the back.
    It's much colder here than California so actually the top range with heated seats / steering wheel may have been a good idea 🤷‍♂️

    • @Swallowfire
      @Swallowfire  3 года назад +2

      You know what's funny. My sister lives in the Lake District and drives a Jeep Renegade. I described the Jeep Compass as small and she was like "No it's not it's gigantic!"
      I guess 5 years of California has really broken my perspective of vehicle size.

    • @Swallowfire
      @Swallowfire  3 года назад +1

      Oh and I think I just hate heated steering wheels. Heated seats are great in all weather.
      I didn't even like the heated steering wheel in my other car in Utah at a toasty -17°c hahaha

    • @gregandkaruna6674
      @gregandkaruna6674 3 года назад +3

      I would be concerned with a used Tesla if out of warranty, many countries the Hyundai get a standard 5 year warranty, Kia going one better at 7 years, although that 7 years includes the battery while where I live the Kona EV gets a 10 year high voltage battery warranty.
      Just for some perspective a ICE Kona in our country starts at NZ$32k vs NZ$77k start price for the 64kwh Kona EV.
      And in a few months a new slightly bigger big facelift Kona is being released same size battery but a range increase..

    Hi, great review 👍
    Can I ask what your lease deal is like in America? I was listening to the fast lane car podcast and they were saying you can lease a Leaf for $80pm over there, whereas in the UK its about £250. I’m getting an eNiro tomorrow and thats £350 plus tax. Much cheaper than a BMW but still quite a lot of money. Thanks 😊

    • @Swallowfire
      @Swallowfire  3 года назад +2

      The lease for this is pretty dang expensive. $500 or so. The cheaper Leafs and Soul EVs and things seem to hold their value like a bottle of milk. I was considering one as a stopgap but the range and quality isn't a patch on the Kona or Niro. You'll be very happy with your Niro I'm sure.

  • @TDany79
    @TDany79 3 года назад +1

    Nice job! I wish I had a driveway at home. I would definitely invest on an EV. Charging around town and spending 1 hour or more doesn't really appeal to me as a good daily car. Again if you have a driveway and can charge every day. Then this is awesome

    • @Swallowfire
      @Swallowfire  3 года назад +1

      That was the kicker for us. As soon as we bought a house (and saved some money), we vowed to get an EV.

    • @Swallowfire
      @Swallowfire  3 года назад +1

      So the dealer told me the rails from the petrol Kona wouldn't fit, but I read on forums that they would. I guess ask the dealer near you to see if they'll put them on for you haha

    My understanding of EV 12v batteries is that they are not as robust as as ICE one and you really don't want to be jumping other cars from them.
