The theory that Indrid Cold needed his name, which is a codeword, published in newspapers is interesting to me. Because looking at the larger theory -- it's not that the "other aliens" would read about him in the news, but that having his codeword in the consciousness of more people is what would notify his rescuers -- because the ultraterrestrials don't communicate with language but with energy that is shaped by consciousness and thought. Really interesting implications.
I just happened to get the Hellier series recommend in my YT feed and was so surprised by the subject matter! My great uncle was Ralph Lael and he wrote a book "The Brown Mountain lights" and was considered the family "special kin" for decades (he was my grandfather, Roscoe,'s brother). I always found him so fascinating although definitely colorful and loved any chance I had to visit with him. I live in NC (born and raised) as does most of that side of the family, in Hickory. Love this series and I hope to see more coming!
so psyched, just watched seasons 1 and 2 again hoping season 3 might be coming out. this is the first time I have heard reference to it, maybe it was something they've talked about on patreon livestreams - curious if anyone in the audience knows more???
The 3 of you riffing off one another is golden! I'm so happy to be part of this weird community! Thank you for all that you do. You guys really brighten my days!
This is the best paranormal podcast out there right now. This show is what I look forward to the most every 2 weeks now. Thanks for doing what you do guys!
I am 43 and a mother of 4. When I was 3 years old in 1983 I lived on Conesus Lake in New York. I remember being in my bed, hearing my old heavy window open, and watching an all black "monster" crawl into my room. I saw that it had a round head, giant wings like a bat that it wrapped around itself and had almost like 2 giant claws/hooves for feet. I remember pulling the covers over my head and being so scared I peed the bed. It did nothing to me and I never saw it leave. It was gone when I woke up. It wasn't until 5 years ago that I even heard about a mothman, but when I saw it my heart sank.
In the occult world, we talk about how just doing a ritual will attract all sorts of spiritual flotsam and jetsam to the area like a moth to a flame (hah). But adding in that extra element of time is something I hadn't thought about too closely before. Regardless, I think you are correct that the event is what drew the High Strangeness to the area as a "symptom". The idea of its effects rippling backwards and forwards through time has some basis in magic theory as well... 1. In order for some spells to work, things have to be set in motion in the past. So it's theorized that some spells ripple backwards in time and are affecting you before you've physically performed them. 2. On a related note, I've seen several magicians claim to be affected by negative activity trying to scare them away from the alchemical process before they've even begun it, as if the universe can sense their future intentions. I suppose it goes back to the whole "time is a flat circle" thing. We're experiencing the timeline linearly while affecting it in all directions.
This is a really thoughtful episode. So many theories of an event that still defies explanation. There is so much high strangeness and the Mothman is an iconic entity, but there is so much sadness. Point Pleasant must have been devastated for such a long time. I'm glad that the Mothman has become a positive thing for them.
Not sure if you guys are aware of Anthony Peake, but he covers premonitions and the idea that they could be ripples backwards in time from a significant event. Such as seeing the bridge collapse and gifts floating in the water was such a major event that it rippled backwards and was picked up by people's minds causing a premonition.
As someone who lives in the area and does some work for The Mothman Musem, I think you guys did an excellent job with this! Just gave you guys a sub, huge thumb up!
Regarding the dogs and high strangeness conversation: Dogs have historically occupied three main symbolic positions in art, myth and literature--all of which have to do with boundaries between worlds. They are classically guardians (from their willingness to defend territory); messengers (from their habit of barking when something or someone approaches); and psychopomps (from their tendency to escort people from place to place). And for what it is worth, they are well known for marking boundaries in general. In other words, they have a natural propensity to comprehend the concept of inner and outer worlds. So . . . when you have a high strangeness event, especially when such an event is on the cusp, there is a kind of poetic (perhaps tragically poetic) and necessary psychological role that dogs play very well by defining the line between worlds. Since paranormal experiences are essentially narrative experiences (since it is hard to capture "data"), it makes sense that dogs would find their way into the story at the borderlands.
Mothman has always felt to me like a creature that was trying to send a message and his way of doing it not in sync with how humans communicate. I've never seen Mothman as an evil creature just misunderstood.
The bridge collapse was so shocking, that in the early ‘70’s I repeatedly had dreams of crossing a bridge that collapsed in the middle and falling toward the water and debris. It was always an old Pittsburgh bridge. I still avoid it.
I'm in the middle of binging Hellier and you guys DROP THIS ON ME. I REFUSE to view this as a synchronicity. I'm an *occultist*, not a UFOlogist :| (It's all still very fascinating, of course. I love listening to the way you guys talk about this stuff, and I was cracking up over the "Hey, you wanna see something cool?" and turning Dana into a UFO radio receiver)
I personally adore the Museum and have been going to places where I can hear G&D talk since I first met them on the Queen Mary 6 years ago. I have supported their work ever since. They are doing groundbreaking work in the paranormal. They do the work, not many out there in the same genre who you can say that about.
People be sleeping on Hellier. I can't wait for season 3. The anticipation of whats to come is very intriguing. The alluding to Crowley and Parsons in regards to a connection with Mr. Wriste and Greenfield has a lot of potential. I'm not big on the Richard Keel movie.
I'm also a Home Alone person. I grew up watching it every year at Christmas 💜 This was another fantastic episode! You are so good at bringing fresh perspectives to the same discussions we've been having for decades.
I found Hellier a couple of years ago and am on my 3rd viewing. You are some of my favorite people and everything you talk about has me enthralled, I’ve also gotten my oldest daughter and her boyfriend into it. It’s great to know I’m not alone in my way of thinking and also to have many of my thoughts challenged. I am waiting with bated breath for the 3rd part of Hellier. Is there a release date yet?
Great episode guys! Keep up the great work. I get the feeling season three of Hellier will have an episode called The Apology and will be an hour of Connor begging for forgiveness from Taunia, lol.
Have you ever looked at the location of petroglyphs near various periods of high strangeness, sightings, UFOs and flaps? My husband is Native American and I have several petroglyph sites pinned on my maps to stop and see on road trips (he likes to see those) and when I was pinning Mothman related locations it jumped out at me how close several of them are to Mothman sightings, cryptids, etc. across Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Just a thought.
Greenfield has said in interviews that some of the phone calls that Keel received were none other than Barker pranking him. I love the thought of that.
If people were more open to what is (potentially) really out there!! Hellier is amazing. I’v started watching it again. I’m from the desert in rural Utah. Please consider some content on Skinwalkers. Very diverse with lots of UFO 🛸. Blessing for the new year.
Excellent podcast - looking forward to a Season 3 of Hellier(hopefully... . 😁) It was one of the best Paranormal series I've ever seen. Happy New Year to you all!
When Blair Witch came out, my mom took me to see it when we were visiting the small town of Arrowhead up in the mountains. As as kid, the movie scared the ever living fuck out of me! To top it off, we didn't have the best brakes on the car, so we had to take the back way home down the montain-- I jumped at every branch that poked out onto the poorly graded road.
My family has had its moments of "High Strangeness". The incidents started when I was around 7 or 8 and my Mom, my brother and sister and I saw three disc shaped UFO's up close in the daylight.... When I became a preteen, I woke up one night and happened to look out the window to see this glowing orb of light coming down the road at about 2 AM in the morning. And it just suddenly disappeared.... Then one winter in the middle of the night , my sister looked out her window and happened to see an orb of light going down a tractor path from the road to what we called the "lower Barn". It was an old barn that had been damaged during a bad storm many years before hand. My sister was telling us about the light the next morning at the breakfast table. And that day it was discovered that the barn had actually fallen that very night.... We also had the experience of a Banshee one evening, which sounded like a woman being murdered and which left no tracks in a thin layer of snow.... My sister drove by the area of Mt. St. Helens and almost drove closer to get a glimpse of it the day it first erupted. She was driving from Texas and decided not to see it, but to drive straight though to my parents house in Oregon. It erupted shortly afterwards.... My brother and sister-in-law were vacationing in the Dominican Republic the day the Earthquake hit Haiti on the other side of the island.... I had premonitions which I thought were coming from John Denver, warning me that something would happen to my plane if I tried to visit my Dad who was dying from Cancer. I kept putting the visit off until Dad begged me to come. I ended up being on a plane on 9/11 that day, stuck in Detroit airport on the runway, the next plane that was supposed to take off.... In 2017, Bigfoot started to make their presense known to me where I live here in a barn/ garage. Sometimes when I sit outside on the stair landing, there are resounding woodknocks from the area at the edge of the yard.... Soooo, my family seems to attract this sort of stuff. It's definitely Planet Weird living here........
Can I pretend to be Ingrid Cold so I can watch season 3 of Hellier before it's released?! All jokes aside, I love this podcast and I'm so excited that we are getting a 3rd season of Hellier.
Well. I now have a new Christmas tradition and adding this episode to my must watch with Egg Nog shows. Thanks for putting up the full version. The original one that was 24 minutes long left me confused. Haha
When you saw Blair Witch as a kid.....now I feel old. It came out when I was in my late 40's. lol Connor, regarding the physics of Mothman being able to fly, perhaps mothman is part bumble bee? ;)
Happy Yuletide! This has been my favorite episode yet. I visited Point Pleasant after watching Hellier. Living in Indiana with my brother stationed on the Virginia coast, I purposely drive there now.
I love this video, like every second of it, and every reference and resource in the notes. I’m so going to try the Estes question about time cycle. So cool!
I could not get through the movie for years. Finally after learning more about Mothman I was able to get through it and enjoy it for what it was. But I think that thing you said about it being depressing is dead on. I realized I kept shutting it off not b/c it was scaring me but b/c it was making me uneasy and depressed af and just down so I just kept avoiding getting through it.
In case you were not aware, but I'm Inrid Colds long long long lost cousin twice removed cousin of his best friend nieces best friends daughter 😇😇😇😇.. you mentioned a season 3 of Hellier.. I'm family enough for a Sneak peak, right? We're practically family 😅😅... but seriously, love you guys. Keep up the great work... love the podcast and listen to it repeatedly.. much love to you all 🥰
The moth man kind of reminds me of the flying witches in Mexico and the flatwoods monster they were like half robot half cryptid I think she's on to something red glowing eye's the thing didn't flap it's wings it shot straight up . There was a military document about using drones in that area if I remember correctly. Who knows it's all bizarre when you do research in these encounters.
Connor fist fighting Mothman really had me laughing but as a pet parent I COMPLETELY understand. Mothman would take me out in about five seconds flat but I'd still go after him to save one of my babies. People have posited that maybe he takes dogs because of their heightened perception abilities, but cats have these abilities, too, and I don't think I've read about kidnapped cats. Maybe it's because cats can't be arsed about chasing monsters. I prefer to think that's the case rather than cats being ultraterrestrials themselves or co-conspirators. (Though some days I have my suspicions.) I love my kitty precious, I does.
In Season 1 of 'Heiler', one of the emails from 'Terry Reist' gave a huge clue concerning high strangeness. Remember how he said *Heiler is just a symptom* ?
Regarding the mothman prophecies movie, something that gives me incredible insight into how it was made was an interview with the screenwriter Richard Hatem on Astonishing Legends. I mean there’s even some high strangeness that went on as to how he even came to appear on the show.
I watched The Mothman Prophecies for the first time because of this podcast. I actually really enjoyed it, despite it only being inspired by the events rather than an adaptation of them. I loved the theme of red lights throughout foreshadowing the end of the movie. And the bridge collapse scene really does hold up. Great practical set pieces mixed with awesome miniature work. I also started reading The Silver Bridge, which I had no idea existed. It is indeed interesting to say the least. I started Keel's book and finished it within a week so I think it's safe to say I prefer that one.
Fun fact: I watched The Mothman Prophecies in the theater back in the day, I loved it, and my ex wife didn't get it, and was pissed Grace wasn't in it as much as she'd hoped
Possibly most impressive part of the mothman mythos is that a drawing of him can single handedly stop a haunted filing cabinet from mysteriously opening.
I wonder if one day when we get Helier 3, Indrid Cold says “hi, you asked me to call in that show of yours.” But how do we know it is him for real? I don’t know. I love that I honestly trust this bunch of weirdos won’t lie to us, but I don’t trust others won’t lie to THEM.
Apart from x files I hadn't heard of mothman or really cared and only found hellier by mistake and I have made many but this was one of the best! I have shared this video to my best friend to remind her I want keels book for my hehe. The more I learn the more I want to. Hellier was so helpful on so maybe levels and I am so glad you look are ao funny and lay things out so well explained and understandable. Have fun
Great video, I love the way you all work together, really interesting topic. Has Connor ever thought of doing those sleep audio's, he has an amazing voice. Happy New Year all, and stay safe.
Getting MAJOR Fringe TV show vibes regarding the Ultra-Terrestrials, like Indred Cold, & MIBs. I guess I should finally learn more about this Mothman stuff.
I've done a ghost box session where someone came through and said "I am Indrid Cold." I am always skeptical of who/what is talking to me, because there are probably intelligences around that want to play mind games and make you think you're talking to a dead relative or something. But hearing that made my heart skip. It's always fascinating to hear what comes through. And I think if you're in a mindset of fear you're less likely to get any genuine communication. Whether it's the consciousness of the dead or some unseen non-human entity, something is there. In my experience, most of them are just curious and want to say hi. I've yet to have anything malicious come through. Sometimes they're assholes and want to be insulting, but those are rare.
To be fair, Gray Barker and Jim Moseley pranked John Keel a number of times, and Keel was the cantankerous sort, so his dig at Gray at the end of Mothman Prophecies didn't surprise me.
Well one of the original theories posited was that the appearance of the moth man was to warn of the collapse in advance. So suddenly tall winged and scary has a caring heart and people wouldn't listen.
Another thing, how you mentioned time. Apparently Napoleon Bonaparte use to align his attacks with certain times and dates following astrology and such. Then after one battle he lost all is manuscripts and writings and never won another battle. I read that in an old book called Philosophical Merlin.
The depressive energy she mentions that the difficult filming gave the movie is something I have noticed, but it does serve that this all happening during his first few months of grief, so it's like, his emotional tone but overlayed w/this unnerving tone of the events and his struggle is obvious. I hate having to have people uncomfortable for a job that is for frivolity but, it ended up serving his character's tone, such as his character is rounded at all.
O sweet little baby Jebus let me watch the Hellier Season 3 screener ahead of time I swear I won't bring a phone or anything to make you think I'm going to bootleg I just need to see it already. Connor you are good bro the same accidental slip would have come out of my mouth. Also @Greg and Dana nice prop car that is so damn cool. Anyway get back at me guys. This podcast still rocks!!! Happy New Year 2 all of you BTW =D
Great topic. Read the book after hearing John Keel on Art Bell Show. John was pushing the movie, so I had to pick up the book. Great show! Can't wait to see what you cover next. 👍
I kind of think dogs being taken/killed in high strangeness cases could be due to domesticated animals being unique to humans. Maybe wherever "they" come from they don't have any domesticated animals, so it may be quite startling for them to encounter a barking dog. idk
WHOAAA wait you're right !!!! AHHHH--
I just happened to get the Hellier series recommend in my YT feed and was so surprised by the subject matter!
I hope there will be a season 3 of Hellier. Such an amazing series.
Loving these podcasts!
I've watched Hellier 3 times...love it
They have said every podcast season 3 is coming. It's currently still being filmed.
AGREED
At 14:28, Greg says he’ll show Ingrid Cold Hellier Season 3 if he comes and visits. Are we all just ignoring this!!!???

That alien scene from the news reel in Signs still gives me the chills.
Me, too. The children screaming in that scene just hits a high note of terror.
I think that with the music and simplicity of the scene, every sound and when the wind starts up is so chilling!!
What kind of witchcraft is behind Dana's amazing hair? That lustrous shine is off the charts ✨️✨️✨️
Black hair dye.
Chamomile and Thyme Water I'd guess
Excuse me while I cuddle my dog 🥺. Big fan of mothman, but I'm with Connor on this one. I'd hulk out and rip him to shreds if he took my fur baby.

This episode was incredibly meaningful. It represented a lot of the synchronicities that originally brought me to the museum three years ago.

"Jackin' in to a Franks box!" haha great episode!
What if they appear ahead of these events because the collective energy of the event opens a portal? And then mothman disappeared.
In Season 1 of 'Heiler', one of the emails from 'Terry Reist' gave a huge clue concerning high strangeness. Remember how he said *Heiler is just a symptom* ?
Answers Die Hard without missing a beat...legend!
Should there be a “mothman 2?” Dig more into some creepy MIB action??
I once made Indrid Cold as a character in my WWE wrestling game. Him & Jack Frost had a rivalry for a minute there.
Do you follow Dead Meat? They had a whole rumble with all the horror characters. 10/10 would reccomend.
Fun fact: I watched The Mothman Prophecies in the theater back in the day, I loved it, and my ex wife didn't get it, and was pissed Grace wasn't in it as much as she'd hoped
MOTHMAN LIVES!
Possibly most impressive part of the mothman mythos is that a drawing of him can single handedly stop a haunted filing cabinet from mysteriously opening.
Hellier was stunning. Also loving the podcast. Thank you!
As a toy collector I heard “1/6th Scale” and my eyes bugged out, you gotta get yourself some expensive ninja turtles to ride in that car
Getting MAJOR Fringe TV show vibes regarding the Ultra-Terrestrials, like Indred Cold, & MIBs. I guess I should finally learn more about this Mothman stuff.
Fringe was all about the MIBs. Lots of references.
I love your works, incredible talents in your team, you are a jewel in the paranormal scene. 👏
So glad this popped up in my feed!!! Yinz are awesome, thanks for making me feel not so weird.
LOL. I've always loved the runaway retconing of Mothman.
Yay! Happy merry, you guys!
Merry Christmas from the Pine Barrens!
For Hellier Season 3, please go back to Brown Mountain to find the answer to the paranormal flying rod phenomenon.
31:28 I thought that the incident with moth man pacing on the front porch was the same incident with the baby which made it so terrifying
To be fair, Gray Barker and Jim Moseley pranked John Keel a number of times, and Keel was the cantankerous sort, so his dig at Gray at the end of Mothman Prophecies didn't surprise me.
Happy Christmas, guys.
I'd follow the Newkirks anywhere! But that would be creepy so instead I'll just happily watch and listen to their exceptionally well produced content❤
Try aiming yourselves at Sirius in the summer when it comes over the horizon and asking, "What is your time cycle?"
Thank you guys I love this pod its ACE!!!!!!
i really wish i can have friends like you guys some day.
CONNOR REPPING MY FAVORITE CHRISTMAS MOVIE YESSS THANK YOU
The depressive energy she mentions that the difficult filming gave the movie is something I have noticed, but it does serve that this all happening during his first few months of grief, so it's like, his emotional tone but overlayed w/this unnerving tone of the events and his struggle is obvious. I hate having to have people uncomfortable for a job that is for frivolity but, it ended up serving his character's tone, such as his character is rounded at all.
One of my favorite topics! Great content! Thanks guys
So glad u guys are posting now!!
I read Mothman prophecies quite a time ago. It was very intense!
Should have had David Lynch direct mothman prophesies, then people might have been ready for the weird.
I kind of think dogs being taken/killed in high strangeness cases could be due to domesticated animals being unique to humans. Maybe wherever "they" come from they don't have any domesticated animals, so it may be quite startling for them to encounter a barking dog. idk
It could be that, or maybe because dogs have better senses than humans. Maybe they see dogs as a threat because they can alert us to their presence.
Bigfoot is another dog-eating culprit...a lot of torn off collars are found in the woods.
Couldn't stand watching you when you were younger, kidsment, I want to listen and watch all your stuff. Soon to join. Can't waite, good fortune.
