It was terrible. It made the machines just simple evil men. Presumably the stand in for the "Patriarchy". The whole point of the original Matrix was that the machines weren't the bad guys, they weren't just Terminators. It just assassinated their entire world. And the fact that he did it knowingly, willfully, and with such blunt hate directed at his fans, was just even more revolting than The Last Jedi I think.
I would have made Neo remnant code that existed only in the Matrix and have had him locked in to an imaginary life with an imaginary trinity and for some reason they needed him and needed to break him out of that.

Ok here is my Pitch for Matrix 4.
For starters call it 'The Matrix: The forth Renaissance' which contains the number 4 in the title aswell as tying it to the animatrix prequals which were awesome and includes
the 're-' trope from the other titles.
The plot will be about the loose peace between humanity and the machines. There is no more Agents, there is Ambassadors on both sides.
The movie kicks off in the matrix with with an assassination attempt on The merovingian (an A.I ambassador) and Niobe (a human Ambassador) as they meet to broker a further treaty to extend the peace. The Merovingian is killed and Niobe is injured.
Cut to New Zion, the new human city which exists on the worlds surface, where hundreds of thousands of free humans live and prosper. After the assassination attempt, immediate tension between the two factions is felt as people fear the possibility of a second war.
Neo exists, but hes not alive, his mind was downloaded into the matrix before he died and he lives in retirement in the Machine city program. He lives in peace amongst the machines as their savior for stopping the war aswell. He is contacted by the machine council and the human government and asked to cross over back to the matrix to find the assassin and expose the conspiracy. He declines at first. but then it is revealed that the assassin, was Trinity.
What follows is an actually good story that would make a billion dollars and would make people high-five in the streets.
    the End

I was 16 years old when the original Matrix movie came out. I remember watching it when it came on Cinemax with my then 13 year old brother. I *LOVED* it. I thought Trinity was *SO COOL.* She was pretty, looked like a model with GREAT fashion sense, kicked @$$ along with the guys - was actually STRONGER than many of the guys there- and was also in love with the main character. I wanted to be _JUST LIKE HER._ The next day I went to Dollar Tree and bought a cheap pair of black sunglasses...the closest ones that looked like Trinity's that I could find amongst Dollar Tree's limited selection. I didn't have many dark clothes and all my jeans were baggy, but that didn't stop me from imagining myself as being like Trinity, going through the Matrix while on the lookout for that hottie Agent Smith. (Yeah, I was a WEIRD kid).
The Matrix was IMPORTANT to me. Not just to me, but it shaped a GENERATION. It shaped an entire FILM INDUSTRY. So to see the MESS that it has become in this movie leaves me absolutely HEARTBROKEN. Trinity was already a bad@$$. She didn't NEED to be reconned into sharing the powers of The One. And one of the things that made me LIKE the Neo character in the first movie was that he was just a regular ordinary guy. He did not IMMEDIATELY have access to the powers of The One. He LITERALLY had to DIE before he was able to control them. Meanwhile, in this movie Trinity AUTOMATICALLY is a pro right from the get-go, with *no prior training.* This made me RESENT her. It made me roll my eyes because it felt like the writers were trying to say she would have made a better "chosen one" than Neo.
I don't like things like that. I don't like that they've ruined Trinity's character and basically rendered Neo obsolete. All he did in this movie was act confused, and stand back and act "in awe" of the "greatness" of Trinity. 🙄 Trinity never did that back when Neo was The One. She NEVER worshipped him. He didn't WANT to be worshipped, so why do they have him acting like an awestruck imbecile? Why is Trinity so much more powerful than Neo? Yeah, I heard the explanation the film gave, but it makes no sense to me and contradicts what we learned in the original film. Why not just create a whole NEW cast of characters? If you wanted to make The One female, just REBOOT The Matrix and RECAST The One into a FEMALE! Don't destroy these already established characters to push your agenda!
    I'm SO heartbroken. 💔

      @merchant271 2 года назад +3

It’s because the whole movie was a subversion on the matrix formula, it’s the greatest middle finger I’ve seen. Trinity didn’t “become the one” it was the bringing together of Neo and Trinity that gave them both their powers. The film outright states that Warner brothers is making a 4th matrix with or without Wachowski. The cover of wake up by rage also ties into this, it’s both the original formula while also effectively betraying your nostalgia for a property that already had an ending

The movie mentioned the machine civil war prior to the creation of this new matrix and there was a short clip of it but the problem is they didnt flesh that out enough. This movie should have been entirely about the machine civil war and picks up with an ending where Neo and Trinity are being plugged into the new matrix so as to create a tentative peace for all sides. At that point, matrix resurrections would have made a lot more sense as 60 years passed since the civil war and now people are seeing Neo and Trinity in the matrix while being freed by machines opposed to the enslavement of mankind.

      The answers are simple:
      1) Hollywood is now creatively bankrupt. They drove everyone out of Hollywood except a narrow band of people that all think and act basically the same and share a single worldview - and as it happens, it's one completely ill suited to making movies people want to see and is out of touch with the rest of society.
      2) They know there's a strong power to nostalgia, especially when we're living in crazy times and people are pining for "the good old days", and right now is that on steroids. One could argue that happens every generation, but even people not alive in the 90s wish it was the 90s again.
Combine these two and it's why Hollywood keeps going back to that nostalgia well. THE PROBLEM is, because of (1), they keep screwing it up. They take something people loved and then they inject it with their current worldview and then wonder why people attracted to the original won't give them money. It is simply beyond their capacity for reason that...people don't share their worldview and disagree with it and that THAT is why their own modern projects generally fail.

    • @RicoJazz
      @RicoJazz 2 года назад +3

This nostalgia is happening because the American culture is dead. Nothing is original anymore, there are no new ideas, no style, no hot new thing besides PC crap. Society is on the decline as a whole and every damn thing has been filled with stupid narratives.

I’m really pretty open minded about sequels that seem unnecessary, because hey, Hollywood is basically creatively bankrupt and you never know, even cynical ideas can turn out okay… but cripes, every part of information that came out about this seemed terrible. Glad most people seemed to feel the same way.

@@Jogge-tf1kl Who me? I like some MCU movies, they’re all basically pretty good with some notable exceptions (I really like Ragnarok and Infinity War and think Captain Marvel and Black Widow is pretty bad, though at least the latter is sort of unintentionally funny). Still haven’t seen Shang-Chi or Eternals, but I’m fairly disinterested after Endgame. I will definitely see the new Spider-Man when it comes to VOD, haven’t been to theaters due to having a young child who won’t sit through 2 and a half hour movies.
So I’d consider myself a pretty casual movie watcher. I am not really a huge fan of any given franchise. I really liked the first Matrix and thought the sequels were okay, but I was confused on what the hook was to justify continuing a story that seemed finished. Given the box office results, seems like I’m not the only one that felt that way.

TLJ, TROS, and now Matrix have creators who try to reopen a closed arc by embracing nihilism. Ok, I don't mind. Fantasy happy ever afters are slowly getting stale.
But the way they embrace this nihilism is ultimately contradictory. Consider the following statements:
    1) Nothing the hero does ever lasts
    2) Because nothing lasts, evil can rise again. Usually in another form, but as we've seen in the Sequel trilogy, one can be lazy and resurrect an old evil
    3) Since the hero's efforts do not last, there is no happily ever after, which was previously set up as the ultimate goal
    4) Since there is no ultimate and permanent goal, the hero is useless and a waste of time
    5) Let's create a new hero out of the rubble of the previous hero's efforts and failures. This new hero will bring final victory over evil, we promise!
But 5) cannot be true since it is contradictory to 1) and 3). The writers already started by hitting the reset button, so who is to say that this hero's actions wouldn't get reset as well in the near future?
The way around this is either do not reopen the arc in the first place. Or acknowledge the nihilistic and cyclical nature of the struggle between good vs evil, and embrace existentialism. That is, for the hero to focus on the here and now. Don't pursue what was once was, don't obsess over some mythical final victory, enjoy the moment but don't be attached to the point of obsession. Endure and fight through hardship knowing that what was once was, can happen again. Ultimately, you choose to do all this, not some external force. Ironically, didn't Matrix Revolutions actually touched upon this at the final battle between Neo and Smith? "Because I choose to"

I did not mind Matrix 4 tho when I watched it and thought the first part was actually quite fun. Yeah bringing back Neo and Trinity was kinda stupid, but I loved seeing the characters again. And I liked it that they elevated Trinity from pure love interest to the next "One". BUT: I am a fan of the whole Matrix Trilogy. I feel M4 had to be way more spectacular regarding fights, story and characters to get new fans on board. They basically continued a storyline nobody really liked in the beginning ( Matrix 2 + 3 ) and which concluded 19 years ago! So I was happy to continue where M3 left off, but 99% of non-nerds just don't care. And there was just no fight or set piece that took my breath away. And the World War Z thing at the end really sucked and didn't feel Matrix to me at all. So yeah, I didn't hate it as much as most people do, but I wouldn't recommend it either. Shame. If they really wanted to make another matrix they could've done a prequel, like maybe the first iterations of the matrix and how it failed or a sequel where it shows the machine civil war. Either way, it should be completely new characters, maybe neo makes a cameo for fan service but don't center the story around him cause his story is finished.

Also went way too ham on the fanservice. I do however have to give kudos to the evil re-trapping execution as they did only promise peace, but not what they would do with Neo afterwards, which they chose a very machine-like choice to use him for as a battery again; and as a Madoka fan, I can understand the torment and cruel irony of the machines beginning to harness emotion for power. I liked the labyrinth scenario where they actively tried to make Neo and Trinity just settle in their new lives, especially with an active psychiatrist character who can keep these things in check. Not saying we needed a movie like this, but it is certainly not the Last Jedi levels of character assassination, since Neo and Trinity did have a triumphant escape, rather than Luke's fart in the wind VR chat finale.

A meta-commentary on making Sequels, movie industry and the greed of big studios. Kinda similar to Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994).
Unfortunately after that the film practically degenerates into this Soft-Reboot Shit like Star Wars: The Force Awakens or Terminator: Dark Fate.
    It was just terrible!
    What a damn shame 😔

I liked what they did with the programs and machines. I think it added some dimension to the world. The machines aren’t some hive mind. They take sides. Some side with the humans and help them, while some desperately cling to their old system. That was the only thing really liked.

If they make another movie it should be exclusively about that. Don’t bother having scenes take place in the Matrix itself I DONT CARE

The first Matrix was pretty much a perfect movie. The sequels were...I don't particularly remember anything about them. And this one, I don't even want to watch it to see how bad it is.

It's the equivalent of taking a fairytale that ends with "and they lived happily ever after" and then dragging out a sequel where we see the rest of their lives that is completely unimportant to the original story

Could you do a video talking about X-Men: Green? It goes beyond woke cringe like Snowflake and Safe Space & I am NOT Starfire and goes as fair as promotes Eco-terrorists murdering store clerks because a tortoise choked on a wrapper that has the name of a KwikEmart that shares the same name.

More like *The Force Awakens'* mistakes. Remember it was *The Force Awakens* that needlessly rebooted the series while adding nothing to it. It was TFA that failed to give our characters purpose for the follow up, it was TFA that set the lazy, uninspired foundation for everything to come

They should have started with the new machine war with new characters and statutes of Neo, Trinity and Morpheus being thr only connection to the original trinity

The most disappointing thing about the 4th film is that they had a good idea for a sequel in the film.
Instead of being a throwaway sentence they should have made the entire film about the aftermath and the war between the machine factions. They could even keep the stupid resurrection plot point. Have it be the reason the humans join the war, the reason they split and form a new city that works with some of the machines.
Hell, they could even do the prequel, the war before humanity is enslaved by the machines. Although that is a bit of a crap story too. The humans scorch the sky in order to stop the machines, except the machines are unaffected, and the human weaponry relied on solar power, and all life relies on solar power, so the scorch just made the machines win (and somehow no one saw that coming). It pretty much paints the Matrix as humanities' saviour.

Maybe you guys are still thinking that the "One" exists. Well, what if there isn't a "One". We know about Jesus, heard the stories, read the Bible. But what is the man story of the bible, the number two "greatest"command? Love thy neighbor as thy self. Woke? So many are crying over this term and dismissing others who are different. Well, times are a changing. I'm sorry, we're abou to ditch the interan combustion engine. Alot of our "traditions" are discontinuing since we've found out that ignorance has reigned in certain areas for decades, maybe centuries.

Matrix was a trilogy. I am not sure how you can revive a trilogy for just one movie, where it references itself a lot and make it so that it doesn’t seem like something is missing.

It's really sad that you missed the message of complacency and the ideal of a deal being to good to be true and as humans, we're hard wired to fear even the greatest of gifts. I didn't think the movie was bad. I didn't think it was great, but I don't think it was unfaithful, disrespectful, or patronizing. I thought it had a solid premise and story. Neo's sacrifice wasn't completely in vain. Humans and machines now work together to make the real world a better place. Like the line in the movie "disappointing to think the story ends when you do". Shit has happened and the world is different and better. Humans don't seem to be hiding in a tin can, they have machine allies, and they don't have to eat the same rust flavored grule all day long. But new management has taken over the Machines and while there seems to be somewhat of a peace, as Io isn't a militant state, there are still troubles in the world. Beyond that, the story is about Neo and Trinity and human connection. There were some contrivences and BS that took place, but most of it is satisfactorily explained and the story is what it is. Ths source code isn't just in Neo, but in Trinity too.
Ya know, I knew Keanu Reeves wouldn't do a sequel if it was terribly made, and I don't think it was. I just don't think there was a story that was going to satisfy everyone and that's what they expected. The Machines are using Neo and Trinity because they're retconning that they were both special, which I don't have a problem with. It fits. He became The One with Trinitys help, and did everything else with Trinitys help. They had meta commentary to explain why the movie was made and why it will never be as good as the first. It knows what it is and it didn't try and be more. It's an exciting movie with a plot that works within the confines of the world.

    • @snodog00

@@TheEpicSuperstars pretty much. No matter what they did, it wasn't going to be super successful. Had they focues on the machine civil war like everyone is saying, they would be complaining that the wars are supposed to be over and Neos sacrifice was in vain and yadda yadda.
Accept the story they give you and judge it on its respect to the originals.
