REMINGTON 700 vs TIKKA T3x Which is BETTER?
In this video we will take a look at the Tikka T3x and the Remington 700. We will test them and see which one is better. Is the Tikka better or is the Remington better? After years of experience using both I will share my opinion. Please like and subscribe to my RUclips Channel.
When compromise is simply not an option. The T3x Superlite offers exceptionally high performance which comes in a very lightweight package. The Lite models are equipped with the T3x synthetic stock, and all new modular features that allow for maximum adaptability. These models come with the classic low-angled grip. The T3x Superlite has a blued, fluted barrel and an all-black stock.

I worked as a firearm specialist for a big box store, not on the sales floor. When I had to work the counter and let the customer compare, the Tikka always won out. Never had one come back in for any reason. Best bolt gun, even better for the money, than anyone else, excluding custom shops. Own a T3 Lite and is my favorite rifle to grab.
They are nice
I went with the Tikka as I needed a lefthanded model in 6.5 Creedmoor. I paired it with a Leupold scope. I am an adult onset hunter and my first hunt was this past fall in Wyoming for Pronghorn. Was successful and harvested a decent buck. My shot was over 200 yards and the Tikka performed without an issue.
I live in Wyoming and hunt pronghorn every year. That's awesome man.
As a lefty on the market for a new rifle, that's a win to Tikka for sure. Based on my research I'd probably say that the only brand that comes close to Tikka for left handed options is Savage.
Is this really a question???? Tikka is what Remington SHOULD BE. maybe a better comparison with a 40 year old Rem.
True
Tikka has a long road before it can hold all the Gold Medals and Records that the 700 has

I used to own a 700 long range in 300 WM, I currently own a T3X lite in 300 WM. I’ll take the Tikka all day, every day. Even though the Tikka is a substantially lighter rifle than the Remington, the recoil impulse feels milder. The action on the Tikka is much better too. Every time I cycle it, it loads and locks appropriately. With the Remington, it wouldn’t lock when I would cycle it normally. Instead, I would have to run through the normal process, and pull the bolt about halfway back and push it forward again before it would lock. This happened probably 90% of the time. The Tikka also wins on accuracy. Every time I’ve run my Tikka, I get groups at 1 MOA or tighter. The Remington was routinely a 2 MOA rifle.
I’ve had other Remingtons (2 different 700 SPS AACs, one in .308 Win, and one in 6.5 CM), and they shoot well. But, comparable Tikkas have still outperformed them.
Did u work at pacific ind.?
I won a TIKKA T3x and have fallen in love with it 6.5 is amazing!
Yes they are
I am in New Zealand, own 2 Tikkas and so does just about everyone else here who hunts
Did you guys really lost your semiautos, or are people doing something to get them back?
Thanks for this comparison. I just bought a Tikka T3X in 7mm remington mag and this review solidified that I made the right choice.
You are welcome
I just bought a tikka 7mm rem mag haven't shot it yet because of covid 19 can't wait what ammo are you using if you don't mind telling me?

I'll take the 700 all day long
maybe I missed it but what about cost factor ?
In Canada the Rem. 700 is cheaper and there are many many options available to modify a 700 series rifle.
I have just installed a Harrel's tuner/brake on my Rem 700 and my 5 shot groups @ 100 yds 223 cal. have been reduced from 5/8" before to 3/8" now. This for a cost of $145.00 cdn.
That Tikka will do better than 3/8" ? I have left two new T3x 223 Tikkas at my club well behind now.
Lots of Remington haters here haha. Remington has been in service for many decades and is American Made product. PLEASE BE PROUD OF IT. Why we still have FORD and GM while we know toyota and Mercedes is better class. Same same.
Not anymore. Sandy Hook victims sued them out of business. They have had terrible quality control for 10 yrs. Remington has been pretty bad for years. Get a 40 yr old 700 if you want a good one.
I’m okay with anything that is made by our allies. No China shit!
@@Bwick_1776 😂 why you bring in China? What did they do to you, they produce what you can’t afford to produce otherwise would be very expensive. Dude the problem is not China, the problem is your capitalist system. You are able to produce anything but it won’t be affordable. Look everything in your stores, mostly made in China 🇨🇳 or any place in Asia and South America.
Remingtons stocks and triggers are the main issue. Once you change those, its usually a great gun. Mine is half moa since getting a new stock and trigger. Having only paid 500 bucks for my remington, it left me room to get what i needed to make it the rifle i wanted. So its going to depend on your budget and what you can do at the time. The remington can be made into a very accurate gun pretty easily.
Love my Tikka, i think Remington can not even get close to it for price. Non on market can tbh. Tikka is EU made...thats the difference tbh
Definitely beats a Remington
Tikka is made in Finland.
@@jarilaaksonen2530 Shocking that you'd have that opinion.
Which model of the t3x do you have ... I’m looking into getting one myself

I have a TIKKA T3X in 223. I like it and it shoots under 1" no problem. One drawback not mentioned is for short action cartridges, you still have to make a long action bolt throw. I measured the spacer in the magazine and its about 1.12" extra and unnecessary bolt throw. It would be nice if TIKKA came out with short actions like most other companies instead of this cost cutting measure. I purchased an extra 6 round magazine, but it doesn't feed properly. Plastic feed lips can wear, leading to problems down the road. I had a Remington 700 BDL purchased in the 1980's and never had an issue with it feeding in more than 20 years. I should have never sold it. Also, I had a TIKKA in 30-06 about 15 years ago that didn't come close to meeting the 1" guarantee. At one time (maybe still) the Remington 700 action was known as the strongest in the business and was the most widely used action for custom and target rifles. My Remington 700 was much more solidly built than the TIKKA T3X. I agree that today the TIKKA is better quality than the Remington 700 out of the box. But it has its downfalls too. Hopefully someone will pickup the Remington 700 line and restore the quality and be competitive again.
Imagine being a caliberlet and then blaming the company. Ask me how i know your wife's boyfriend is black
I heard that "only accurate rifles are interesting." without seeing the accuracy, all the comparisons are of sub-importance.
Lots video shooting remingtons and tikka
Most rifles built today are extremely accurate though. Barrel technology has come so far that most rifles are at least capable of 1moa.. I feel like there's a lot more variance in fit/finish, weight, price, features and durability then there is in accuracy these days.
To definitively figure out which one of those two rifles is more accurate would take a tremendous amount of effort and after all that it would only be comparing the individual guns not the models in general.
I owned a Remington 700 aac sd for over a decade. I loved it until my brother and I went on a hunt and there was light rain. My 700 had rust pits within hrs and his t3x had nothing. I sold my rem and bought the tikka 308. Bolt is smoother, light and crisp. Over all the tikka out performed the Rem 700. I think the Rem has a lot if hype.

@@Bullets4Bucks 😂 genius
thank you for information
Working on Remington 700...its addictive. Assuming that you get a Remington 700 action (say something like $700~$1,000), you WILL eventually spend $1,000~$2,000 for a good scope. Yes you will. And you will eventually grow into MDT or McMillan Chassis/Stock (another $600~$1,000). And then you will replace the rail to Badger Ord. (or other top tier rail/mount) which is another $200~$300. Then, you work yourself to get you a Atlas or SKye Pod (another $300~$400)...and then Surefire muzzle brake and its silencer (another $1,200)...so total, you WILL spend about $3,500~$4,000 MINIMUM!!! Yes, YOU ALL GET THERE... But it's worth every penny.
Well I installed a ne muzzle brake
Been there and have a couple examples of Remington 700s like what you speak of. I started doing that before tikka were even on the market in the US. Tikka seems to have several advantages over Remington 700, but got a late start to the game.
You can hear the 700 scratching and clawing as you work the bolt. The tika is silent and smooth as glass.
Tikka makes the smoothest factory action.
Fresh action on the 700
With Remington going broke for the second time and Sako one of the strongest brands you decide where and why you spend your money!
Sako all the way
Rem 700 just over priced.
Agreed
Tikka is probably higher quality too
?? Where i live the remington 700 is cheaper than tikka by a large margin....
I love my Tikka 6.5 . I always thought a Remington would end up in my safe. But as it turns out I now own a Bergara b14 timber 300win. Pretty much a Remington clone but perfected. Those 2 are great rifles out of the box.
Very smooth actions
Bergara has been having LOTS of quality control problems as of lately. It seems like the 700 they tried to replace, they are ironically enough following the same course
Spains military or government won't even use bergara as a matter of fact Spain won't use any of the firearms made in their own country
Tikka is the best rifle dollar per dollar on the market imo. In the last decade I won't touch a remington. Last remington I bought was utter garbage. Thankfully I was able to sell it for a loss, but I then tried a Tikka (which was cheaper) and shot way better.
I agree on remington they are not what they use to be.
I disagree with you on the Remington 700 ADL. I had a ADL in 270 Win. The stock was solid, And I had no issue un loading that rifle.
Out of the box overall value has to go to the Tikka. With little to nothing in ad ons they just get the job done. I'm a owner of many Remington 700's, mostly vintage models and they are great rifles. The downside is most of them need extra investment in trigger systems, stock work etc... to see what they are capable of. Once again, the Tikka is a better value out of the box. Still love the Iconic 700 though. Too bad a man can't buy them anymore unless you are willing to pay super inflated prices now that many of them are considered collectors!!
Owned several of both over the years. I now own 5 Tikkas and only 1 Remington. Shopping for another in 308 and it will be a Tikka or Winchester! Remington has too many design flaws and inconsistent quality control in my opinion. Tikka T3X for the win!
Very True
I like the custom safety for the Remington 700 I have one it locks the bolt on safe but instead of having to flip the safety on fire you just depress the safety and it will open on safe position
Interesting very cool
I'll take my Remington....
No Remington rifle is in the same category as a Tikka, Tikkas are superior in all ways! I own 3 of each and hunted with each brand of rifle.
good feedback
If you are talking of recently produced Remingtons I would have to agree. However I have a Remington 760 in 270 WIN from the 1970s. Pump action yet more accurate than any of my bolt action including a TIKKA T3x in 223. I get groups at 100 yards with factory ammunition where all bullet holes are touching. The best a single enlarged hole. Original metal magazine that is around 45 years old and still working fine. I doubt TIKKA's plastic magazine will last that long. I have 2 for the TIKKA and already one is having misfeeds. Other than my great grandfather's 1895 Winchester, the Remington 760 would be the last rifle I would part with, and I have many fine bolt action rifles. Remington once produced high quality firearms at a fair price even TIKKA would have a hard time competing with.
That is important to me as well. The bolt must lock down when the rifle is on safe. Remington has been around for a long long time should know better.
Again Tikka gets it.
Yup
They actually used to lock, but it changed in the newer rifles. I couldnt say what year. I've heard that it was due to people complaining about having to take the rifle off safe to open the bolt. Can't verify this a the gospel, but I have a 700 from the 70s that has to be taken off safe, and my newer 700 rifles from the 2000s dont.
Excellent presentation. I own a Tikka 308 and very happy, now it looks like I will own a Tikka 30.06 a great deal of my decision is based on your opinion and demonstration. Don’t subscribe to many sites, I did with yours.. thanks
Thank you Dave
I was planning on buying a Remington M700 for my first hunting rifle since I'm a primitive bow hunter but after hearing the stories about them going off when you touch the bolt I'm just gonna get a Tikka
They are nice :) Tikka that is.
Don't sleep on Howa. Good rifles too.
the trigger problem has been addressed by Rem. or for $150.00 just swap out the trigger for an after market one which will be better than both triggers.
I have Tikka t3x 243. With vortex scope very good for all season in the arctic 👌 still accurate in extreme cold 🥶 good for any animals.
Very nice!
I am not surprised with your review.
Tikka and Sako take alot of pride in what they do. I have a tikka 223 varmint 20 inch heavy brl and at 100 yards I can hit a dime consistently. mine is garunteed 5 shots under 1 moa or send it back. that's a hell of a garuntee for a reason.
That is awesome. I need to try a sako
Yes I would definitely try a sako as well. Made in the same place as the tikka. Another great rifle.
I have an early 80s made Remington 700. It’s a great rifle. I got my first deer ever with it years ago. It’s got a lot of sentimental value. But I’ve also got a 2019 Tikka that shoots 1/2 Moa groups routinely. For a new rifle, the Tikka wins by a considerable margin. It’s really not much of a contest.
Interesting
I have owned just about every type / brand of centerfire rifle made in the last 75 yrs including some $2000+. Custom rifles. The Tikka T3 x is hands down the lightest, most accurate, smoothest action rifle I have had. Rem 700’s in the last 20 yrs are clunky junk for the most part.
Tikka is smooth. I do prefer the build of howa but tikka is nice.
Howas are great like their twin The Weatherby Vanguard but a bit heavier for me on long uphill treks out west.
The problem with Remington is they cut corners to make manufacturing, people still buy them off of brand recognition.
Agreed
I like how everyone cycles the bolt when you can just lift and close the bolt to pull the trigger
True lol. Habit and oh it just feels good
Good practice to open then cycle the bolt completely as a safety measure. , just lifting the bolt could be cocking the rifle on a live cartridge that you cannot see in the chamber.
@@samesaw well you check the rifle before doing so.
Tikka all day, everyday.
Remington is no comparison to the Tikka. I had a Remington 700 bdl dm, like it but didn’t love it. I now have a Tikka T3X Hunter 243 & love it
Tikka/Sako what else ? ;)
I bought a used Tikka Hunter in .270wsm. I was not surprised at all that it was sub moa with two different bullet weights of factory loads.
Very nice shooting
@@Bullets4Bucks thanks, I’m not a great marksman like some of the ones on YT so it’s a testament to how accurate the rifle is that it can make me look good.
You’re biased and it shows. I have owned numerous 700’s and still do. Bought my son a Tikka ( his choice). Shot both. Nothing wrong with Tikka. But it isn’t a 700.

@@Bullets4Bucksso negative. Yes the new 700s aren’t as good as the old ones. But the fact that you make a comparison just to throw one under the bus is garbage. Hi Mr Bullets . I am from the UK 🇬🇧, just found your channel you have a couple of videos I am pleased I have found. I am currently waiting to purchase my new rifle and have been researching both the Reminton and Tikka. Both have models that will suit my use, the Tikka currently is in first place for many of the reasons you described. I don’t want to add aftermarket triggers, stock etc to make the gun I want.
I am looking at 223 for hunting and vermin control, weight is an import aspect so is accuracy. I have a Howa 1500 heavy barrel Varmint which is getting old now but that said it will print half MOA with home loaded ammo. I am now going to watch your Howa / Tikka comparison. Good channel subbed 👍
Tikka and howa are both good. I like the howa hs precision stock better but they are both good.
Hi im from Sweden and the tikka is wery Common here, there are some things you missed, there is in total 28 diffrent models of the tikka exluding the diffrent types of ammo. For about the same price. But one thing you missed that are pretty important is that you kan change the front stock and the grip to diffrent types so that they fit your prefrece. I would love to see your review of the new Sako s20 precision. Best regards sweden
Hello, First thank you for tuning in and I trust you are doing great in Sweden. I wonder if more models are available there than here?! They are definitely not as common here. I will have to remember to mention those features in upcoming videos. I would love to review a Sako but this year I just do not have the funds yet to do it. Maybe next year. Thank you for the comment!
I have 3 tikkas and 1 remington 700, I always grab the tikka first when I head out
I just bought a Tikka superlite stainless...I was disappointed in all the plastic...plastic trigger guard, plastic magazine, plastic bolt release. It cost over $200 to replace these with metal aftermarket parts.
And that is why i recommend howa over tikka although i love tikka
Then why did you get the superlite?
Bolt release is plastic on the superlite? My lite it is not plastic. The magazines work perfectly fine, and lighter than a metal equivalent, for hunting they work great. Trigger guard is sad that it’s plastic, but over the years mine hasn’t broke
@@Dodgezilla79 It would cost more than the rifle to upgade all those parts: $40 for new bolt stock from Mountain Tac "Ditch that metal injection molded piece from the factory for this precision, CNC milled, stainless steel bolt stop"
By replacing the plastic trigger guard with bottom metal, accuracy WILL improve because of increased torque on the action screw to 45 in/lbs. The metal's decreased flexibility removes vibration. These two benefits together increase accuracy. From a gun digest review of Tikka T3 "Unfortunately, I have had factory Tikka polymer bottom metals break, where the action screws interface with the bottom metal. In my home state of New Mexico, it can be near freezing in the morning and 95 degrees in the afternoon. This heating-and-cooling cycle is tough on polymers, and all my backcountry Tikkas have aluminum bottom metals.(gundigest.com/gun-reviews/)"Bottom metal prices range from $215 at Red Snake Tactical, to $145 at High Desert RifleWorks. An upgrade of the plastic stock to a composite or carbon fiber stock with an aluminum bedding block also will improve accuracy exomtngear.com/blogs/article/diy-custom-tikka-
I hunt out west also. And have never had the bolt come open on m yRemington 700.
Remington 700s are phenomenal guns if you get them for a good price and put the work in to customize them. The aftermarket support is insane for those guns. I’ve shot 800+ yards consistently with my Remington chambered in .270 and killed tons of elk, deer, and antelope with it here in WY. It was my first rifle and has been customized to do everything I want. That being said, Most other off the shelf rifles are better in value than the Remington 700 for the same price by far.

My Tikka T3 in 270 is one of the most accurate guys I have ever shot. Its actually disturbing because after that gun I will always question the accuracy of any other guns. I do feel one of the largest factors is the trigger is unbelievable for a factory trigger. I would compare it to a Geissle single stage trigger in terms of a crisp clean break.
It is a great tigger and tikka's have a great feeling action.

Fantastic I would love a tac a1
Doesn't the tikka have a polymer trigger guard/bottom? I read an article where a guy replaced with a metal one and it improved his grouping? I guess it because the metal one didn't flex as much?

It’s sad the recent build quality of the Rem 700 has degraded so much compared to the first 25 years of production. I have 2 BDLs and an ADL from the mid-1960’s/1980’s era. All are fine shooters and compare nicely with my Tikka T3x in all areas except weight. I also have a fairly recent SPS in 243 that has been back to Remington twice for trigger issues. This one loses out to the Tikka across the board. I guess this is what happens when mass production processes replace skilled gunsmiths in manufacturing. I understand this is to keep costs down, but you can’t help comparing the old vs new and feeling some loss.
Agreed
I would like to see Tikka 3X vs the new Remington 700 Alpha 1
We can see which way you’re clearly leaning. Yes tikka right out of the box but there’s a reason most custom actions are Remington 700 clones
The reason for so many custom barrels and accessories for Remington that they have been around for a long time, much longer than Tika and used to be reasonably priced and readily available. If Tika had been around the US market for the last 50 years the Remington 700 story would be a whole lot different.
The bdl is the only remington i would buy, simply for its beauty
I have owned both a R700 and 2 different Tikkas. Out of the box, the Tikka will win 10 out of 10 times. It's not even close.
Yup

The rear of the bolt is closed on the tikka so if you get a pierced primer or one that leaks around the sides of the primer pocket the 60,000 psi of hot gas get blocked before hitting you in the eye and the face. Remington 700 offers a gas pathway straight to your eyeball for pierced primers. And the idiots at Savage used to have a closed back of the bolt and have been changing to a cocking indicator/ firing pin out the back in the middle of the bolt to direct 60,000 PSI Pierced primer gas directly into your eye.
I have had my Remington Bolt open up and throw the round out in the woods from being caught on brush more than once. And was trying to make a quick shot on a deer and lost the opportunity from manipulating the bolt to reload . Luckily I have not lost a bolt yet. The Recoil lug system on the Remington completely sucks . Same with Savage. The extractor on the tikka is completely superior to the remington. I have gone to one piece Picatinny bases on my Remingtons. The base screws will eventually come loose on a Remington no matter how tight you think they are. The bases need to be glued down and the base screws need to be treated with Loctite or glue.
Fantastic input
The Tikka T3 is a better planned rifle using features that advance the model 98 mauser action to its further refinement.

Love my tikka only downfall to the tikka I have found is the magazine if you reload your own Bullets you’re limited to the magazine length
True
Got 2 700s and 2 t3s both good guns, but both have flaws.
Sounds like you got some good ones
Please elaborate
Tikka second to none love my Tikka
Bill Reger only second to Sako but that a different price range. The tikka is really good.
Gabrielle Cautilli 100% spot on mate cheers Yogi Australia 🇦🇺🤙🤙
Also looks like a well used tikka and a brand new remington. I'm sure the tikka is a fine rifle. The action is very nice, no need to put it in unfair comparisons. People with critical thinking skills can see through it.
Lol... guess you know everything. The remington was actually older than the Tikka. They were both bought years ago at this point and the video is old... pricing changes... duh. Not only that but remington is essentially out of business currently.
@@Bullets4Bucks don't get your panties in a bunch tikka fan boy. The remington has been the same price for over a decade there guy. It is advertised as budget. It's not a 5R or sendero like your trying to make it out to be. It's OK. It's obvious you can't be objective when it comes to tikkas.
Would you glass bed the recoil lug and/or receiver on your Tikka?
I have but didn't show much improvement. I think an aftermarket stock with an aluminum bedding block would be best.
Obvious prejudice from the get-go. If you're going to make comparison videos, do a better acting job. I'll keep my Remington. A real tool for a real man.
Lol you better keep it they may never make them again.
Want trade my 700 cause a bunch of RUclipsrs say blah blah blah😂
Tikka made a smooth-running bolt and stooged everyone!! Shit recoil lug (not that R700 is much better), not accurized/blueprinted tolerances, 2 to 3 times more $$ than other brands.
Pretty much
Talking to gunsmiths- tikka don’t really need trueing, Remington do. Depends how accurate you want to be.
Almost all after market stocks are made for Remington. Less so for tikka. Depends how much you want to modify your rifle.
The aftermarket support for tikka and others is growing
I was looking at getting a bolt action for mountain hiking/hunting, something I can beat up (my 1969 Belgium BAR is too fancy to scratch 😂) and the tikka seems like the perfect choice.
My browning is in .308 so was thinking staying the same but would be open to other calibers… any recommendations?
308 is still a viable useful caliber for hunting no matter what all of the hype and marketing says. I actually have the same gun in the same caliber and I would say use it if you have it. If you are hunting and jump something up and have to shoot quick the BAR allows quick follow-up shots so you can double tap or triple tap it before it disappears.
Tikka is better. Shouldn't even be a question. Without a doubt..
Yup
Bolt trigger action barrel all better with tikka only thing I give Remington is the stock
More custom precision rifles are built with or off the 700 footprint than all other rifles combined. Nearly every custom action out there is based off the 700. The US military also uses the 700 for a reason...
True
Tikka is way better than the Remington 700. The only thing that a 700 has over anything is the round action which is easy to chuck up in a lathe and do everything that Remington didn't do.
agreed
What about Howa vs tikka
I have a video on that
Do you know how locktime can get you up from the ground?
Idk what the locktime is on howas
@@Bullets4Bucks slow as an remmington 700
Tikka has the best stock action and bolt. I think Remington offers much better stocks. Trigger goes to tikka. Remmington offers much more customization. I own both and plan on getting a rem 700 mountain soon as well as an awr. My brother just got a t3x superlight and it is awesome. Just hate the plastic feel to the stocks and the plastic bottom/trigger guard. If they offered upgraded stocks like the remington, I would not have a reason to buy anything else ever
I like my superlight but agree the stock is ugh
True but it is very light and a lower model. They offer a lot more rifles as well with better barrels and stocks.
uh....you failed to mention that the TIKIKA T3X has a fluted barrel and twisted bolt with muzzle brake plus comes dura coated. To me that is a huge advantage in upgrades.
Which tikka? Nit the regular t3x
@@Bullets4Bucks the tikka t3x lite in Alpine Veil.
@@SurvivaLust right but not the normal base model and I don't believe that model was out when this video was filmed
@@Bullets4Bucks You might be right I bought mine in April of 2020 when it was first released. Great comparison btw.
