    As someone who calls Edmonton home, I was less offended by her piece, and more struck how someone could make major life decisions so carelessly. She doesn't really seem to have learned from her foolishness.

  • @justschr

    This interview really didn’t help her cause. Windermere IS practically Leduc. It’s less than a 15 minute drive down the QE2. If you want nightlife in Edmonton you’re going to need to be closer to DT/Whyte Ave. You can’t move to an area that when I was growing up in the Edmonton area was literally a farmers field and expect it to be even half of what Toronto has to offer. Windermere is where young people are moving when they want to buy their first home, settle down, and start families they aren’t moving there to go out every night or much at all.

    Also the debate around her story isn’t about feeling like we’ve been trashed… It’s about how a person who made several very poor decisions thinks we live in a shithole because of her poor decaions. It’s honestly pretty humorous.

    As someone who was born and lives in Edmonton, Windemere is not the place for a young, single woman who is looking for a social scene. Edmonton has historically had an amazing DIY scene. Spend a little bit of time here and you can find a lot of cool things here. That being said, downtown Edmonton is dying, if it isn't already dead. Our city council is clueless to what is actually going and prefers to govern based on ideology instead of realities. Edmonton transit centres have become the place to overdose on usually down (fentanyl) or meth, or a place to take a dump in front of other people. The amount of zombies walking around the areas that people go to socialize is embarrassing. Thefts and catalytic converters being cut off your vehicles happens all the time without any consequences. I love Edmonton but if someone was moving here from another city, I'd warn them to think hard about their decision.

    Lots of night life in the GTA,we often see the results on the news! I was born in Ontario, lived there 38 years. Moved to Alberta 3 years ago, I wouldn't go back to Ontario if they told me I could live there for free! People here are generally friendlier here, in Toronto many don't even like eye contact. We were visiting family in Oakville in October after the nasty summer humidity, and the day we left you could see the smog from horizon to horizon. I have had no asthma problems since leaving Ontario. The year round sun here is awesome, and we get very little snow in our area,I am extremely happy about that. Anyhow you guys can keep your Toronto attitudes, and Justin Trudeau you seem to love there. Hopefully more of you won't come out here.

    Jackie I appreciate you coming on here and clearing up the facts. The story takes a much different perspective knowing that you lived in Windemere as Windemere is often seen as a top prestigious area of Edmonton. I completely agree with you on the fact that there is 0 vibe here compared to Toronto but I was surprised to here you had visited many times since 2015. May I ask more about your experiences visiting (where did you stay? / what sorts of places did you visit at the time that made Edmonton seem more lively?)
    A lot of the top lounges/bars in Edmonton closed permanently during COVID and many downtown restaurants /bars have never recovered. The vibe just isn’t there anymore people just don’t go out , many places downtown are half full on weekends and completely empty during the week including cactus. People just don’t go out like they used to especially in the core. I had assumed that the suburbs were more lively with people going out there vs commuting downtown, but that may not be the case.

  • @tracy488
    @tracy488 Год назад +3

    I'm trying to be kind but I just can't. This interview made her seem even more foolish. 1. The New York sign in the background from Winners is there to remind us how worldly she is. 2. "I don't have that kinda time." That's probably what she said when her friends and family told her to research Edmonton. 3. She moved all the way across the country to hang out at Cactus Club? Trust me, we read the article. It's in there. Basically, she's not even interested in discovering the great restaurants and lounges in Windermere like BUCO, XIX, Hart's Table, Black Pearl. 4. Again, your lack of research and understanding of Edmonton shows that you don't understand that you closer to Leduc than you are downtown Edmonton where all the action that you want happens. 5. She's been visiting Edmonton since 2015 for business. So why didn't she just do all the things she did on her business trips that made her fall in love with the city and decide to move there? When you move to a new city, it's takes months, if not years, to build the life you want. 7. It's not really a cautionary tale, it's just another example of how clueless Torontonians can be about the rest of Canada.

    I've travelled to A class cities and while no one in Edmonton is claiming Toronto or Vancouver ratings ,Id still say it hits above the belt in warmer months in some areas compared to anywhere on a smaller scale. Winter in Edmonton is just restaurant and theatre season imo.
